Anhydrosis - inability to sweat

Hi!  I was diagnosed with celiac this fall after 3+ months of debilitating symptoms.  Most of my symptoms have resolved on a gluten free diet but I still don’t feel metabolically right yet - fatigue, a little joint pain (I know my iron level is still deficient). All of my strange/alarming symptoms have gone away except that I am still not sweating.  This was one of the strange symptoms that developed about two months before I was diagnosed.  I also didn’t get sick all fall with any viruses my kids brought home - but about 6 weeks after eliminating gluten, my body started to show a reaction to colds/viruses again.   Right now, my body gets hot but I can’t sweat to cool it down.  I am curious if anyone else has this issue and has any insight about whether it went away as your body healed or whether it was linked to a vitamin deficiency.  I’m not exactly happy with the treatment I have received so far (eat gluten free and you’ll be fine) but I am planning to bring this up with my GI and endocrinology appointments next week.  Thanks for any help you can give me!

Hi and welcome :)

i was the opposite, I used to sweat profusely when I was on gluten. It was one of those things that I never expected to be affected but gradually resolved once I was in the diet.

I don't think it was. Vitamin related, more to do with the way gluten affected my metabolism. Sweating is governed by the autonomic nervous system, my nerves were hammered from the gluten and gradually they recovered. The nerve damage typically takes longer to resolve so you may find you still have some. Recovery to look forward to there?

The Lindt (Lindor) dairy-free oat milk truffles are definitely gluten-free, and (last time I checked) so are the white chocolate truffles and the mint chocolate truffles.

I've used magnesium taurinate and magnesium taurate vitamins.  Didn't notice much of a difference when I used them.

More great tips, and a good excuse to shop at M&S and also buy more iced buns!   I wish we had an ASDA near us, as the few times we've been to one their gluten-free pasta range seemed very reasonably priced compared to other shops.  Thanks so much, @Russ H.
