Envirokids Bars

On the box for the organic berry crispy rice bar (I think the case is the same for peanut butter), the ingredients list does not contain any soy ingredients. There is a disclaimer of "May contain traces of peanuts, tree nuts, or soy" but I believe that is just due to those ingredients being used in other envirokids products at the facility since none of them are listed in the ingredient list.

The other day I noticed while eating one of the bars that the ingredient list on the bar wrapper itself is different than the box. The wrapper lists "organice expeller-pressed canola oil and/or organic soybean oil." Since I'm trying to avoid soy for the time being, I'm hoping that soybean oil is indeed not used (due to the "or" part), but I was surprised to see a different ingredient list on the wrapper than the box. I'm assuming that would be against FDA regs if soybean oil is indeed used since it's not on the box ingredient list, correct?

I'm going to try and call the company this week to clarify this, and I'll post whatever info I get. Anyone seen something like this before? It's difficult enough just to learn what to look for on ingredients lists.

I would call the company. But I do think it is legal to say "or" in an ingredient list. Depending on what they have at the time the food is made.

I jsut check my box, and it is the same way, BUT "soy" is listed eslewhere in the ingredients. Now to be fiar, mines the chocloate flavor, so might be slightly different.

Looks like to me they updated the ingredients lable on the inside wrapper, but not the box.

I don't mind them saying "or". I'm just hoping that the soybean oil is indeed not used currently since it is not listed on the box and only the canola oil is. I'm assuming that soybean oil may have been used at one point but that canola oil is only used now but I just want to make sure of this.

Here is the reply I received from Nature's Path Foods. Apparently, the soybean oil on the wrapper is not currently being used.

"Thank you for your email. It is canola oil now - BUT there is a future

possibility of having to change to soy - due to an international

shortage of organic canola. (thus the and/or) "

My wrappers are plain foil - no writing at all on the berry flavored bars. This was new as of last month, I think. Last time we had the chocolate bars they had writing on the wrappers. Maybe we have the new 2006 model and the rest of you have last year's wrappers?

It sounds like you have a very reasonable GI doctor, who diagnosed you based on family history and symptoms after eating gluten. I would consider you lucky! The other option would be to make yourself very sick by doing weeks of a gluten challenge prior to an endoscopy.

Hi Colleen H,   I suffered with the pins and needles/burning feeling in my legs and feet for at least  6 years until my Nephrologist figured out that I had to go on a low salt diet.  He said my kidneys weren't strong enough to remove the salt.  The simple fix was a diuretic, but that med leaves the uric acid behind, so that wasn't an option.  On the bright side the low salt diet lowered my BP over 20 points and and the pins and needles/burning feeling went away.  Good Luck and hope this helps.

I did ... But aren't we going to be vitamin deficienct if we are not eating due to being sick ?? If the food we eat is gluten free and we have other sensitivities , how do we get out of the cycle??  Thank you

Anyone else get pins and needles. ??? Burning feeling ? Heat makes it so much worse 😔  Winter is here.  I had to lower my thermostat because I couldn't take that hot air feeling 😔  Hopefully it goes away soon
