Tazo Tea

Hi all,

I recently got sick after drinking Tazo Awake Tea. The description on the package says it has a “malty” flavor. However I read a question on this website that said it does not have gluten. So my question is, does Tazo Awake tea contain malt/gluten?

According to their web site it does not contain any gluten, so it is naturally gluten-free, but does not have "gluten-free" on the label:

I chatted with Tazo directly a few minutes ago re: passion tea and they no longer test products for gluten at all... so the best we can achieve for now is "no gluten-containing ingredients", which as we know doesn't preclude cross-contamination.

Oh, MY GOSH!  2 days ago, I drank Tazo Awake Breakfast tea and had extreme reactions of headache, stomach cramps, intense vomiting and diahrrea which lasted throughout the day.  The only thing that it could have ben was the "malty" flavor in the tea.  Nothing else I ate was remotely close.  19 years diagnosed and no reactions in over 3 years.  My stomach is still wobbly.

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
