In time will offer these other options, maybe they don’t know yet, but I know and really do know what has worked for me. Good luck Chris I hope you sort everything.

Thank you Chris,  I will say I did at first think oh what am I going to eat/drink as you just don’t know what to do, but if your getting on alright being Gluten Free and symptom free that good, if you are still having a few symptoms look at maybe trying avoiding Dairy and if that works all well and good, well it’s not good really as Dairy is really nice, then maybe try Gluten again and see how you get on, it’s trialling different things, maybe try a low histamine Diet for a while and see if that helps, I would speak to a dietician first though. Take care please let us know how you get on.

You might try going gluten free for a period of time and see if things improve. Don't cut out all carbs. Just eliminate all sources of wheat, barley and rye. Those are the gluten-containing grains.

And eliminate oats. Some are sensitive to oats the same as the other grains. And oats are the next most cross contaminated grain.  I eventually was able to eat purity protocol oats, but I strongly recommend you eliminate them for awhile until you know for sure.

Hey beverage, fortunately I don’t like oats, so I don’t eat it.

thank you.

Hello Chris

Yes, my advice is when you get problems, is think back, always think back, have you had any food and drink that contains high histamine ie, Dairy, Alcohol preservatives fast food, these all add to our levels, bring your levels down in your body and be well, that would be my advice, there are other milks you can try and when your levels are down you may be ok to go back but only in moderation if at all, it’s all trial and error working these things out you will get there. Water is what our bodies like it’s not acidic, most drinks are. If I have too much histamine I know about it.

Take care

Jackie

Hello Chris

Yes if it is Dairy, then definitely yes, try alternatives milks until you find the one you like, also there are Dairy free yogurts available and see how you get on, Dairy is high in Histamine so that could be making you react, eggs are fine with me, I am not a Vegan but I do buy vegan ice cream occasionally for  a treat as there is definitely no Dairy in there, so swaps are available to make it easier if that’s in your case. You may still be able to have Gluten as long as there is no hidden Dairy in the ingredients,  alcohol has Dairy starter cultures in, so try and find a Dairy free variety or a low sugar one, I can get away with that from time to time, my body will let me know if I have too much Histamine in it. I eat a lot of Watermelon/ Honeydew low histamine fruits, Strawberries are quite high so I limit them to occasionally and not too many, find healthy alternatives to what you like, where drinks are concerned water is the best not acidic like the rest of the drinks which includes Tea/ Coffee they all raise histamine levels. As our bodies get older it doesn’t seem to like the things we like any more so we have to change with it to be well. I have changed my diet a lot to be well if you want to be well you have to make these changes, and if Gluten is a problem just stay away from that too, you will know !! I hope your tongue is better now.

Chris it will take a time, it’s best to prepare our food ourselves so we know what we are eating and not all the rubbish that’s added, I eat plenty of veg too, just be as healthy as you can and if it is Dairy/ Gluten you can live without it but it might just be one of them you have to try one at a time and see, maybe buy a book on Low Histamine recipes and see if that helps, as long as your getting a balance of what your body needs, you will do it Chris and you will heal in time.

Also your problem with your tongue and breath will go in time too as you change things in your diet, I’m a big believer in you are what you eat/ drink because how I have healed myself through diet and determination.

Yeah that’s 100% right..

just a question i drink like two to three cup of coffee and one cup of tea and it’s not easy for me to stop them..

what do you recommend me to drink at morning??

Jackie Garrett Collaborator

If you have milk in tea try swapping for for an alternative milk, I drink Peppermint or Camomile it has no Caffeine in, You don’t need milk with those,  if you dip your tea bag qiuck and have it black that’s quite nice actually, but the longer it’s in the more histamine is released, as for Coffee if you can’t do without try cutting back and replace it with water, water is the best you will get used to it, i sometimes lightly flavour it with a hint of squash but not very often just see how you go   Our bodies love  water it keeps everything hydrated.

Hello Chris

I don’t believe there is, I think it’s just a case of seeing how you react to food/drinks with higher histamine in.

I agree with Jackie. I am not aware of any test.

Chris there is a Hydrogen breath test available to test if people may be Lactose intolerant, that could be worth doing.

Hey jackie, first of all sorry for late reply but i was waiting for some results.

thank you so much for your question I hope you’re doing well too.

One month ago i did gastroscopy and endoscopy and the results was good no celiac disease just mild chronic gastritis and the doctor said it’s normal.

but i was still having the issue while eating bread so i did allergic blood test for wheat and barley and mild and the results were milk negative and wheat and barely low so the doctor told me to avoid those two so I’m now avoiding both since two days and still not sure about the results yet.

what about you how are you doing?

Christ, did the doctor doing the endoscopy also do a biopsy of the small bowel and send the biopsy off for analysis or was this just a visual inspection?

I’m doing well thanks Chris, missing the Dairy a lot, I’m finding more and more alternatives but none of them match the taste of Dairy unfortunately, there is a new site called Stuff that works which you may find interesting to look at,  I can’t believe how many of us have allergies now. Did you ever take a breath hydrogen test for your milk intolerance as when I did a normal allergy test they never picked up on my milk intolerance, i have never done a hydrogen test myself as i didn’t need to in the end as I discovered my milk allergy myself, but I think the hydrogen test may be more reliable. I hope you get the answers your looking for in the end. Good luck with everything. Take care

During the time period after my diagnosis when I had a temporary cow’s milk intolerance, I could tolerate sheep’s and goat’s milk. I did not have an allergy to cow’s milk though.

My reaction to a gluten bolus exposure is similar to yours, with 2-3 hours of severe abdominal cramps and intractable emesis followed by several hours of diarrhea. I don't necessarily equate that one large exposure to gluten with significant intestinal lining damage, however. I think it's just a violent reaction to a what the body perceives to be a somewhat toxic substance that I am no longer tolerant of because I have quit exposing myself to it regularly. It's just the body purging itself of it rather than an expression of significant damage. Before diagnosis, when I was consuming gluten daily, I had little to no GI distress. I was, for the most part, a "silent celiac". The damage to my small bowel lining didn't happen all at once but was slow and insidious, accumulating over a period of years. The last time I got a big shot of gluten was about three years ago when I got my wife's wheat biscuits mixed up with my gluten-free ones. There was this acute reaction after about two hours of ingestion as I described above. I felt washed out for a few days and fully recovered within a week or so.  Now, I'm a 74-year-old male. So, I'm not worried about being pregnant. And I don't want to contradict your physicians advice. But I just don't think you have done significant damage to your small bowel lining by one episode of significant gluten ingestion. I just don't think it works that way.

Wondering about some thoughts on how long to wait to try to get pregnant after a gluten exposure?  I have been diagnosed for 10 years and have followed the diet strictly. I have been cross contaminated before, but have never had a full on gluten exposure. I went to a restaurant recently, and the waiter messed up and gave me regular bread and told me it was gluten free. 2 hours later I was throwing up for the whole evening. I have never had that kind of reaction before as I have never had such a big exposure. My husband and I were planning to start trying to get pregnant this month. My dr did blood work to check for electrolytes and white blood cells, but did not do a full nutritional panel. Most of my GI symptoms have resolved in the past 2 weeks, but I am definitely still dealing with brain fog, fatigue and headaches. My dr has recommended I wait 3 months before I start to try to get pregnant.   I have read else where about how long it can take for the intestine to fully heal, and the impacts gluten exposure can have on pregnancy. I guess I am really wondering if anyone has had a similar experience? How long does it take to heal after 1 exposure like that, after following the diet so well for 10 years? Is 3 months an okay amount of time to wait? Is there anything I can do in the meantime to reduce my symptoms?

I’ve used tinctures and made my own edibles with gluten-free ingredients to stay safe. Dispensary staff don’t always know about gluten, so I double-check labels or just make my own.

It's great to hear that there are some good doctors out there, and this is an example of why having a formal diagnosis can definitely be helpful.

Update: I have a wonderful new gastroenterologist. She wants to be sure there’s nothing more serious, like refractory celiac, going on. She ordered various tests including some micronutrient tests that no one has ever ordered before.  I’m deficient in folate and zinc and starting supplements for both. I’m so glad I decided to go to a new GI!
