ok ladies, I know I've been out of the loop a lot with Megan, but I can't keep up with this thread!!!! :D I'm trying, but just can't get through the 25 pages to figure it all out - Rachel do you think you have a corn intolerance or not??? Sorry, but I need the cliff notes version! :P

If you need recipes for anything let me know and I'll look through what I have. I'm no longer vegan but do buy the expensive free range, natural or organic meats. The processed foods we buy right now are the treats from enjoy life or envirokidz. I ordered three gluten free cookbooks that I should be getting at the end of the week. Do you have any tried and true recipes you'd like to share? :rolleyes:

I am a good baker but bad at keeping track of things I know by sight how much of everything goes in. I usually work form a recipe but have learned how to tweak it using alternative flours and so on. I make some good stuff so the next time I am cooking I will try to wirte down the amounts so I can post some recipes. I also have to get the expensive meats- but its worth it with all the stuff they put into the other choices. I think at this point I don't buy any processed stuff- I make my own everything- its time consuming but at least I know whats going into it and it usually tastes better then the stuff they have available for food allergies.

I couldn't agree with you more. I'm waiting for cookbooks and browsing the recipe section here as I can. My husband loves to tweak also. When he tries something he may suggest ways to tweak. I usually make the recipe as is and then make changes after we've tried it. I almost always end up cutting back on sugar. So many recipes have an overabundance of sugar.

Rachel will have to clarify this but I believe she has tracked most of the problem down to hidden MSG. It's hidden under many different names. Most of the corn stuff she was having problems with also had hidden MSG.

I keep up with your threads on Megan but don't post much on them. She sounds like an absolute trooper and you too! Hope things go well with your appointment this week.

This thread had turned into a talk about everything that ails you or any other thing that comes to mind. :lol:

Yup..thats pretty much the gist of it.

TCA, I really cant say *exactly* what the culprits are but everything corn related equals either sulfites or MSG so I pretty much have to avoid corn but not sure if its the additives or the corn or both. Pretty much all processed food seems to have something from corn in it so I just cant win unless I stay on an unprocessed diet.

I just went to the movies with my ex boyfriend who (in my eyes) obviously has food problems. When I first met him he was very overweight....he lost like 80 lbs. by eating healthier and he looked great. All of a sudden he wasnt having trouble getting dates. I started going out with him during this time and he seemed very fit and healthy. Since then I watched him go back to an unhealthy diet....all fast food, junkfood diet. Exactly how I was eating too. He gained all the weight back and then some and has all sorts of health problems. He would never acknowledge it...but I can see it. He burps constantly, has major phlegm and gas problems and he has trouble breathing alot of the time. He says its from dairy but its from alot more than just dairy. He doesnt drink milk so most of his dairy comes from the cheese on his burgers and pizza. Now he has some knee problem that appeared out of nowhere. He has a girlfriend out of the country and both times he visited her and came back he had "d" for weeks. He just got back 2 weeks ago and he's still dealing with the "d". He said his body needs to get "readjusted" to the food here because its more processed. Well...DUH...our food is poisoning us. He said the food in Manila (where he was) is more fresh...not like here. I'm wondering if opther countries dont have so much additives and chemicals in their food....why do we need it? No wonder this country has so many obese people. I bet if I lived somewhere else this would have never happened to my body.

Sorry for the rant but it really bothers me when I see this kind of stuff.

By the way...I saw The Break Up and it was a pretty good movie. Two thumbs up from me...until the ending.

her 7 year old son had --the thought was celiac disease but now terrible chrons. he has to have a feed tube..

she said every time he has a 'BAD' episode they ck for c-diff.

learned about organic potatoes tonight...

wish i could naviagte this thread easier.

Thanks for being there for me...i'm really doing better and keeping fingers crossed 3 days down with second round of antibiotic and far so good taking acidopholis and yeast defence 1 3X's a day to ward off the c-diff.

I learned from you that iodized corn has some corn in it. (As well as a lot of the sugars.)

(I believe using Kosher Salt is fine for using at home.)

How do you handle things you can buy in the store that contain salt,

such as pickels, sauerkraut, canned tuna, olives or shrimp (Trader Joes)?

Products usually do not state if there is iodized salt in the product.

It only says salt.

Today I reacted to a few of these, especially to eating shrimp.

I had some pulling pain under my armpits as soon as I ate it.

( I am usually fine with seafood.)

Also, does anyone know about a Shampoo that is gluten/corn/dairy free and a toothpaste that is

gluten/corn/dairy free. I found this great mouthwash which is working out. Baking soda is not an option for me because I am reacting to it too.

I noticed you wrote something about Hashimoto's,no soy, no walnuts? I understand the soy connection, but hadn't heard about walnuts and Hashimoto's (I have Hashimoto's, too). What's bad about walnuts? :(

I'm so glad you're feeling better. I'm praying the antibiotics are gonna take care of it this time. Remember....100% compliance....you can beat this! :)

Dont worry about getting lost in the thread...I'd be lost too if I hadnt been posting on it everyday. Its 65 pages now so kind of hard to catch up....unless you have all day to read.

I'm feeling alot better now than I was a couple months back...so theres been alot of improvement but still having ups and downs.

Then they found some cysts on my ovaries and I'm having alot of pain where my ovaries are...it doesnt go away....been having the pain a long time but didnt know it was from my ovaries. I thought it was intestinal. I already had one ultrasound. I have an appt. to see obgyn and I'll be having another ultrasound.

Some people have said the cysts could be causing some of my problems/sensitivities and others say its not likely related but I'll have to wait and see. I want to have the cysts removed because I heard of people getting better after the cyts were taken off.

Thats pretty much whats going on with me....glad you and your doctor are being careful about the c-diff and taking extra precautions. Hope you continue to get better. :)

Manja, Welcome :)

I believe if you are corn intolerant and reacting to iodized salt then anything with "salt" listed as an ingredient is out. As far as I know sea salt is what they recommend....I'm not sure about the kosher salt.

I cant eat any of the foods you listed (canned tuna, shrimp, saurkraut, pickles, etc.)

I react to all those things but dont think it has anything to do with corn. Later on in the thread......I discovered a sensitivity to MSG and sulfites. Everything listed above contains sulfites. Shrimp I believe has high amounts of sulfites....do you know if you have problems with sulfites? Other things with high amounts are grapes, wine, and dried fruit. Most processed foods contain sulfites.

I'm not aware of any toothpastes free of corn although there are many free of gluten and dairy. Corn is the hardest to avoid for sure. I use baking soda. What kind of reaction do you get from baking soda?

Morning all! This thread is hard to keep up with if you don't visit every day, lol. I was just thinking that it used to be fairly easy to catch up if you read a few of the older pages along with the new, but any more there's quite a few new pages every time I log on (and I try to log on a couple of times a day, lol).

I think I've determined that corn, msg, etc. is really probably NOT my problem, but any processed foods do seem to eventually cause me problems...not sure exactly WHAT the cause is...I"m thinking it's synergistic...the more I eat of the processed stuff the more it bothers me. When I lay off for a while I'm able to do just fine with a couple of processed items here and there and can eat things like mayo etc more regularly. So while I think I can eat corn and products which may contain a bit of msg without problem, I can't eat a lot of them or eventually my body builds up a toxic level and starts to cause problems.

My chicken experiment was interesting. For years I suffered from an intense, almost internal itch on my left heel--bad enough to wake me up and keep me awake in the middle of the night. I've seen allergists and dermatologists about it and tried creams, antihistamines, etc with no real help. At times in the last few years it has been a constant daily itch and at times it has gone away completely, so I've always suspected it was related to something I was eating or some product I was using. This week I began to suspect chicken because I haven't had that itch for several days...coincidentally haven't had any chicken in that time either. So, Friday I had chicken for two of my meals. Yesterday, throughout most of the day I had the heel itch! My legs itched just slightly so I"m tending to think that is just really dry skin which the coconut oil seems to be helping. This morning my heel doesn't itch at all!

That just confirms in my mind that my reactions are fairly delayed (i.e., not on the same day as I eat the food, but several hours to a day later) and that chicken is suspect. I plan to test this out again later in the week to be sure.

I think our food here is either so highly processed or contaminated with chemical of some sort that our bodies just don't know which way is up. Just because something is considered edible, dosen't mean that it should be consumed. I guess we're the "lucky" ones whose systems screamed--wait a minute!--this does not belong here! :D Hi TCA, how's "our" little one this morning? Hope that new milk-promoting med works out well for you! And DLP, Great news that you have figured out the source of your itching. I find that sometimes when we identify and elininate the cause of an obvious symptom, some other, seemingly unrelated things also improve.

Wow, guess you were right about the chicken! Thats so weird that it makes your heel itch of all things. I bet Jersey is right and you'll notice other things improve too. Hopefully you'll get extra bonuses from not eating the chicken. I think I'm the same as you in that I can eat some processed stuff now and then (when I'm feeling really good) but I reach toxic levels very quickly....a couple times I was able to eat stuff for a week without getting really sick but right now I think I'm at my threshhold cuz I dont think I could last for a day eating it.

Judy, I still avoid all the main offenders and allergens. They do all cause me symptoms too. I'm off corn, soy, dairy, eggs and of course gluten. Did you get a good night sleep?

Ok...guys, last night I ate a cucumber and got a reaction from it. It could have been the Auxigro or it could have been cuz it wasnt organic. It was hothouse grown. What does this mean? Would it still have pesticides? Is it still grown in soil? Kind of lame that I dont know this since I worked in the produce dept. for 6 years.

Anyways I know I was sweating alot last night because I kept waking up cold with my clothes a little wet. Last night before I went to bed I weighed 110.5....which I've been staying at for awhile now. Now this morning I'm 106.5. Is it normal to lose 4 lbs. in the night? How does that happen....just from sweating? I'm not really worried about it cuz I'm pretty sure I'll gain most of it back by the end of the day but I just dont get how I could lose it just by sleeping. :huh:

My ovary still hurts too...it was really noticeable all day yesterday.

I don't know what to think about the cucumber. I wouldn't think auxigro would be a problem with hot house products but I don't know. I think they use some kind of pesticides but again I'm not sure.

I have lost 2-3 pounds between days before but only after a big meal with lots of carbs or protein, but not with something so light. Sounds like water weight.

It probably feels like a long wait still for your appoinment. We are all waiting for you to get some answers and relief.

I bought the hothouse kind thinking it probably wouldnt have auxigro....but I really dont know...it was just a guess. I wish I knew somebody in the farming business. I am so full of questions. :rolleyes:

Yeah...it seems like my appt. is soooo far away. I'm going to call and see if it can be moved up. Time always flies by but because I keep thinking about it of course all of a sudden time is dragging. Funny how that happens.

My computer is possessed or something. When I got up the disk drive was open so I closed it....not knowing how it got open. It just keeps popping open on its own as I sit here. Its opening and closing...it'll take a break for a minute or 2 then start up again. Sometimes its going crazy..opening/closing super fast. :unsure: scary.

I am taking Levoxyl. I went to the company website to read about ingredients, side effects and so forth.

They were talking about walnuts making it more difficult for the Levoxyl to be absorbed.

Hi Rachel,

Thanks for your reply. When I use baking soda for my teeth I get a white line on the inside of my cheeks.

It also starts swelling. A few days later the tip of my tong develops something that looks like a cyst.

I had issues with whitening toothpaste before and had to go to the dentist.

That was about two years ago. The dentist was shocked and said it looks like a second degree burning.

Like I poured acid in my mouth.

It hurt like crazy. Not a fun thing to have.

What kind of hygiene products do you use?

Have you found any toothpaste that doesnt bother you? How about Tom's of Maine? I was using that for awhile and didnt get any obvious symptoms from it but doing baking soda now just to be extra cautious.

I'm sensitive to alot of scented perfumy type things so I use a deoderant I found at whole foods. Its Crystal something or other. I cant think of the name right now but if you're interested I can post it later. I'm not too choosy about my shampoo or conditioner. I use garnier fructis shampoo and paul mitchell conditioner. I make sure its all gluten-free and doesnt have too many bad ingredients. Its the best I can do.

Rachel, the sweating was from the cyst, trust me, I've been through this, I don't think you reacted to the cucumber, I'm sure it was the cyst.

I did react to the cucumber cuz right after I ate it my head and nose started swelling and. My mucus membranes get "sticky". This is what happens with me and chemicals so it was probably cuz it wasnt organic.

I dont know if the sweating was related to that reaction though. I was reading all morning trying to find a link between the cysts and all that I'm dealing with but I couldnt find anything. So I guess I'm left disappointed and not really seeing how the cyst could be contributing. It doesnt really make sense to me....but then nothing about this makes sense to me. I dont see how the cyst could cause sensitivities like this. Maybe the cysts were just seen because I was ovulating and it was normal to have them.

I started taking my digestive enzymes again cuz last time I was taking them it seemed like I was having less reactions...we'll see how I do now. I'm gonna call the pharmacy tomorrow...I posted last week about some drug that my doctor perscribed for healing the gut. I never called about it and the pharmacy was leaving me messages trying to get ahold of me cuz they have my prescription. I guess I'll try that too.

The head and nose swelling is an alergic reaction, but I am so confident that the cyst would be making you more sensitive to things. With my cysts I would sweat so much I'd wake up in the middle of the night to change the sheets and my night clothes, this got better after they were removed and I not had night sweats since and I had them removed years ago. I honestly don't want to give you false hope I just wanted to share my story with you and you seem so much like me right before I went into surgery.

I sweat alot at night but not every night....it comes and go. Its pretty normal for me to wake up in the morning with my clothes slightly damp. I used to have massive nightsweats that left me and my bed drenched but that was prior to my diet changes. I dont get it that bad anymore and for awhile I wasnt getting them at all so figured it was all diet related. I guess the cyst could be causing some type of imbalance and my body is just not handling certain foods/chemicals very well...I just couldnt find any info. on this.

I forget why you had the cysts removed...were they too big and causing pain? I was looking back at my first journal and when I had my most worst days as far as swelling, sensitivites, fatigue, etc...I was also saying that I was ovulating and having cramps. But I wasnt consistent enough with my journal to know for sure if this was always the case....this was back when I was still eating mcdonalds and taco bell.

I do remember that the time around ovulation was always when my symptoms seemed worse cuz I used to talk about this. I used to look forward to my period coming because for some reason after my period came I'd feel better for a few days but that was it....I only felt good maybe 3 days out of the month.

I was feeling really good about a week and a half ago...I remember posting that I was happy and nothing could bring me down. Once the ovulation came I started getting worse and still not feeling good yet. Do the cysts get more "active" at certain times? Maybe thats a dumb question because maybe the cysts dont really *do* anything....I just dont know alot about cysts. :unsure:

      Raising you vitamin D will increase absorption of calcium automatically without supplementation of calcium.  A high PTH can be caused by low D causing poor calcium absorption; not insuffient calcium intake.  With low D your body is not absorbing calcium from your food so it steals it from your bones.  Heart has priority over bone. I've been taking 10,000 IU D3 a day since 2015.  My doctor says to continue. To fix my lactose intolerance, lots of lactobacillus from yogurts, and brine fermented pickles and saurkraut and olives.  We lose much of our ability to make lactase endogenosly with maturity but a healthy colony of lactobacillus in our gut excretes lactase in exchange for room and board. The milk protein in grass fed milk does not bother me. It tastes like the milk I grew up on.  If I drink commercial milk I get heartburn at night. Some experts estimate that 90% of us do not eat Adequite Intake of choline.  Beef and eggs are the principle source. Iodine deficiency is a growing concern.  I take 600 mcg a day of Liquid Iodine.  It and NAC have accelerated my healing all over.  Virtually blind in my right eye after starting antihypertensive medication and vision is slowly coming back.  I had to cut out starches because they drove my glucose up into the 200+ range.  I replaced them with Red Bull for the glucose intake with the vitamins, minerals and Taurine needed to process through the mitochodria Krebs Cycle to create ATP.  Went from A1c 13 down to 7.9.  Work in progress. Also take B1,B2,B3,B5,B6. Liquid Iodine, Phosphatidyl Choline, Q10, Selenium, D and DHEA.     Choline supplemented as phosphatidylcholine decreases fasting and postmethionine-loading plasma homocysteine concentrations in healthy men +

      @catnapt, Wheat germ has very little gluten in it.  Gluten is  the carbohydrate storage protein, what the flour is made from, the fluffy part.  Just like with beans, there's the baby plant that will germinate  ("germ"-inate) if sprouted, and the bean part is the carbohydrate storage protein.   Wheat germ is the baby plant inside a kernel of wheat, and bran is the protective covering of the kernel.   Little to no gluten there.   Large amounts of lectins are in wheat germ and can cause digestive upsets, but not enough Gluten to provoke antibody production in the small intestines. Luckily you still have time to do a proper gluten challenge (10 grams of gluten per day for a minimum of two weeks) before your next appointment when you can be retested.

      Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

      Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

      highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind
