Christine - 10 Advils are WAY too much. The maximum you should take in at one time is 4 -- that is 800 mg, what the doctor's prescribe. You can only take that safely three times per day.

Do you have a bite guard? Have you seen a dentist who specializes in TMJ? That can prevent a lot of arthritic changes in itself. If you have rheumatoid, it's difficult, but it does help. If it is simply osteoarthritis, then it would DEFINITELY help. Both of my kids, after getting their braces taken off, suffered with TMJ dysfunction . . . they went to a dentist who made impressions of their teeth, put them on a special axis, then found the optimum bite for them . . . he gave them a bite guard which, at first, was just a HUGE chunk of plastic, it looked like! Then, they went in 1 time per week for 24 weeks, and he slowly ground down the bite guard until they were at their perfect bite. He then gave my son a night guard for teeth clenching and grinding.

Also, don't want to imply that anything is "in your head", because it IS NOT. However, have you thought about seeing a physician (even psychiatrist) about anxiety issues . . . most often, that's what grinders have. Clenchers tend to be worriers. It was funny --when I was practicing, I could tell by the jaw muscles which patients were clenchers vs. grinders.

Has anyone taught you self-release techniques for the muscles in your jaws? There are positional release techniques that are FANTASTIC for TMJ. In fact, when I first took the course, I was a student and thought it was "out there" . . . it was the stuff that I used the most. Even if you can't find someone to teach you, you can order books on positional release through amazon .com . . . some used ones pretty cheaply. It is difficult to do it yourself -- -I will tell you that. If you can go to a MANUAL physical therapist who works with TMJ, they will be able to teach it to you well.

Susie, I am so sorry you are feeling dreadful. I seem to do ok with the Nut Thins, don't eat them all that often, but when I have I didn't really notice any ill effects. Do you have delayed reactions or immediate most of the time? Had you eaten something the day before suspect? Is the chicken you ate a roasted chicken? I have heard sometimes they change the recipe without warning for the marinade that they inject and baste the roasted chickens with. Just a thought. Broccoli tends to upset my stomach, but it wouldn't make me feel the way you describe. Of course, we all are different.

Oh who am I kidding I mess it up all the time, but I'm getting better at it :lol: I figured out I let the water boil and then turn it way down, or even off, and let the steam come up through the steamer basket, then once the water has stopped boiling and it's just steaming I put the tortilla in and put the lid on. Effort, yes but they taste so good.

Okay, so since joining this thread on page 15 or so I've been trying to figure out what causes the almost unbearable itching I have on my legs...sometimes it's barely noticable and sometimes it's just horrible...also through the course of this thread I've thought it might be corn, histamine, chicken, auxigro, sugar and air. My latest, CHOCOLATE. Oh dear God please don't let it be the chocolate, lol. Anything but the chocolate. The itching was so bad on Friday that I finally made an appointment with a dermatologist (not that I think it will do any good because I've seen one before and it didn't help)...coincidentally, last week, especially Friday, I was eating a bunch of chocolate. This weekend I wasn't around chocolate much so didn't have much and the itching was at a minimum...today...WORK happened and I am surrounded by chocolate once again. Arggg...not the chocolate. What's the world coming to. :blink::lol: Or....maybe I'm just allergic to WORK, lol. :lol::lol:

Thanks Julie....it WAS a roasted chicken, teh same kind I eat all the time, I checked the ingreds. but am going to call the store. Am just starting to feel a bit better now but still - - spinached. ugh. not getting much done today and in very much fog.

I have to tell you guys what I thought was so funny - - yesterday, while driving down from the mountains - lots of time to think and pray, which I love - - love goign with people up to elevation but also dearly love going with just the dogs. So anywho...I"m thinking of and praying for the usual people in my life - - friends, family, loved ones - and thinking of my own issues, of course (they are legion :o:lol: ), and I realized with a chuckle that a portion of my time was spent thinking of the people in Rachelville - - like, holy moly, Rachel needs to grow her own vegetables, and, I hope Cecile feels okay today, and how was Lynne's wedding, etc. etc.....and how some of my friends are usign the word SPINACHED now...ha ha.....

Anyway it just cracked me up because there's now a whole TOWN that I have to worry over.... :lol::lol::lol:

and BTW how do people actually go to REAL JOBS if you get so miserably sick from gluten? Can't imagine. Am vaguely looking for a real job but am thinking of just supporting myself as an artist again (albeit a starving one) as I have done in the past, and continuing to work part-time for the writer. I simply know that I couldn't show up and be efficient anywhere today, would have had to call in sick. ugh.

I don't know for sure, but I would think it could. The unfortunate thing is that Claritin has both milk and corn ingredients. I've stopped it along with my milky vitamins!

I did a search yesterday to try and find an antihistimine that used potato starch. No luck--

I may not have to worry about quitting, lol...they keep talking about "outsourcing" my department, so I'm sure the point will all be moot at some point. Anyway, it was really hard when I was at my sickest, but fortunately I have a fairly flexible employer and fortunately I was able to take some half days off...I also think my gluten intolerance hadn't done so much damage yet that it totally knocked me out, but I think if I hadn't figured it all out soon it would have.

Even the RediTabs? The info on my box only say citric acid, gelatin, and mannitol as additional ingredients. What is the milk source? This is not good.

I might talk to a pharmacist and see if something can be prepared.

Julie--I've not checked on the Redi Tabs as I've not ever used them. I was talking about the regular Claritin pills. Maybe the Redi Tabs are better? Would the citric acid=corn? I'm so confused :blink:

      Hello, @NanceK, I'm glad you're willing to give Benfotiamine with B Complex another go!  I'm certain you'll feel much better.   Yes, supplementation is a good idea even if you're healing and gluten free.  The gluten free diet can be low in B vitamins and other nutrients. A nutritionist can help guide you to a nutrient dense diet, but food sensitivities and food preferences can limit choices.  I can't consume fish and shellfish due to the sulfa hypersensitivity and iodine content, and dairy is out as well.  I react to casein, the protein in dairy, as well as the iodine in dairy.  My Dermatitis Herpetiformis is aggravated by iodine.   Blood tests for B vitamin levels are notoriously inaccurate.  You can have deficiency symptoms before blood levels change to show a deficiency.  I had subclinical vitamin deficiencies for years which affected my health, leading to a slow downward spiral.  Because the B vitamins are water soluble, they are easily excreted in urine if not needed.  It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.   Wheat and other gluten containing grain products have vitamins and minerals added to them to replace those nutrients lost in processing.  Manufacturers add cheap vitamins that our bodies don't absorb or utilize well.  Even normal people can suffer from vitamin deficiencies.  The rise in obesity can be caused by High Calorie Malnutrition, where people eat more carbohydrate calories but don't get sufficient thiamine and B vitamins to turn the calories into energy.  The calories are stored as fat in an effort to ration out diminishing thiamine  stores.    It's time to buy your own vitamins in forms like Benfotiamine that our bodies can use well.   Not sleeping well and fatigue are symptoms of Thiamine deficiency.   I'm certain Benfotiamine with a B Complex will help you immensely.  Just don't take them at night since B vitamins provide lots of energy, you can become too energetic to sleep.  Better to take them earlier in your day.   Do keep me posted on your progress!

      Oh wow! Thanks for this information! I’m going to try the Benfotiamine again and will also add a B-complex to my supplements. Presently, I just take sublingual B12 (methylcobalomin). Is supplementation for celiacs always necessary even though you remain gluten-free and you’re healing as shown on endoscopy? I also take D3, mag glycinate, and try to get calcium through diet. I am trying to bump up my energy level because I don’t sleep very well and feel fatigued quite often. I’m now hopeful that adding the Benfotiamine and B-complex will help. I really appreciate your explanation and advice! Thanks again Knitty Kitty!

      @Hmart, The reason why your intestinal damage was so severe, yet your tTg IgA was so minimal can be due to cutting back on gluten (and food in general) due to worsening symptoms.  The tTg IgA antibodies are made in the intestines.  While three grams of gluten per day for several weeks are enough to cause gastrointestinal symptoms, ten grams of gluten per day for for several weeks are required to provoke sufficient antibody production so that the antibodies move out of the intestines and into the blood stream where they can be measured in blood tests.  Since you reduced your gluten consumption before testing, the antibody production went down and did not leave the intestines, hence lower than expected tTg IgA.   Still having abdominal pain and other symptoms this far out is indicative of nutritional deficiencies.  With such a severely damaged small intestine, you are not absorbing sufficient nutrients, especially Thiamine Vitamin B 1, so your body us burning stored fat and even breaking down muscle to fuel your body.   Yes, it is a very good idea to supplement with vitamins and minerals during healing.  The eight essential B vitamins are water soluble and easily lost with diarrhea.  The B vitamins all work together interconnectedly, and should be supplemented together.  Taking vitamin supplements provides your body with greater opportunity to absorb them.  Thiamine and the other B vitamins cannot be stored for long, so they must be replenished every day.  Thiamine tends to become depleted first which leads to Gastrointestinal Beriberi, a condition that doctors frequently fail to recognize.  Symptoms of Gastrointestinal Beriberi are abdominal pain and nausea, but neuropathy can also occur, as well as body and joint pain, headaches and more.  Heart rhythm disruptions including tachycardia are classic symptoms of thiamine deficiency.  Heart attack patients are routinely administered thiamine now.   Blood tests for vitamins are notoriously inaccurate.  You can have "normal" blood levels, while tissues and organs are depleted.  Such is the case with Gastrointestinal Beriberi, a thiamine deficiency in the digestive tract.  Eating a diet high in carbohydrates, like rice, starches, and sugar, can further deplete thiamine.  The more carbohydrates one eats, the more thiamine is required per calorie to turn carbs into energy.  Burning stored fats require less thiamine, so in times of thiamine shortage, the body burns fat and muscles instead.  Muscle wasting is a classic symptoms of thiamine deficiency.  A high carbohydrate diet may also promote SIBO and/or Candida infection which can also add to symptoms.  Thiamine is required to keep SIBO and Candida in check.   Thiamine works with Pyridoxine B 6, so if Thiamine is low and can't interact with Pyridoxine, the unused B 6 accumulates and shows up as high.   Look into the Autoimmune Protocol diet.  Dr. Sarah Ballantyne is a Celiac herself.  Her book "The Paleo Approach" has been most helpful to me.  Following the AIP diet made a huge improvement in my symptoms.  Between the AIP diet and correcting nutritional deficiencies, I felt much better after a long struggle with not feeling well.   Do talk to your doctor about Gastrointestinal Beriberi.  Share the article linked below.       Other diseases, medical conditions, medications and even (for some people) some non-gluten foods can cause villous atrophy. There is also something called refractory celiac disease but it is pretty uncommon.
