Miamia....good luck today!! I'll be thinking about you and hoping that all goes well with the injections and the tests. :)

Does a person still have to take lots of probiotics when antibiotics are administered intraveneously??

Rachel-

I still am going to be on my regular probiotic plus I have been taking threelac for candida issues- this I could not handle at first but then retried and have been alright with. I will ask him today if he feels I need to take extra probiotics but it might be not as big a deal since I am not taking the antibiotics orally.

:lol::lol:

That was funny.

I was actually wondering if maybe I should change the sub-title of the thread...the part about eating dairy again. I was thinking it might be more helpful to people if they knew what the thread was about. But then again the topic never stays the same so I just dont know what would best describe the thread content??

Any ideas?? What do you guys think.....or should it just remain as is....or maybe no sub-title at all??

I think I had an OMG I might be onto something moment today in that I think I have discovered another allergen/intolerance: Grapes!!!! Every once in a while my stomach becomes enormous and I get itchy ALL over. Can grapes do this and are any of you intolerant to grapes?

On the colds thing. I have had constant colds all of my life, with the exception of last winter. It was my first winter Gluten free!!! NOt a coincidence!

Hi there...I am not really intolerant to the grapes I think, but they do sometimes give me problems, so I tend to not have them frequently. But, something I ate this weekend puffed my tummy up! Can't really figure out what.

Miamia - good luck at the appointment today!!

Rachel - I have to get up at 4:00 too, although I'm trying an experiment this week to see if I can sleep until 4:30, lol. Not working so far.

Hum, I don't know about the subtitle thing...I'll think on it. :P

This is 2 1/2 months later and we are still experiencing the symptoms. My doctor recommended that we take a histamine blocker regularly for 3 to 4 months.

I have since learned that MSG - Monosodium Glutamate - Ajinamoto

A white, crystalline salt used to flavor food, especially in China and Japan.

The two raw materials used for the greater proportion of commercial production are wheat gluten and desugared beet-sugar molasses. (Source: Open Original Shared Link)

I didn't realize that MSG could be in other foods/items. Thank you for the link to Open Original Shared Link.

Sincerely,

Hiasun

That's a long time for a reaction. :o

Haven't looked into the link you provided yet, but it sounds interesting. Wheat gluten.....is there anything it's not in?

I think it should cover the basic idea of this thread which is troubleshooting, brainstorming health issues that don't resolve with the gluten free diet.

OMG...I Might Be On To Something a place to discuss multiple food sensitivities/other health problems.

But, something I ate this weekend puffed my tummy up! Can't really figure out what.

Did you eat anything different lately? Could it be that pie you've had recently.

Hiasun,

I don't know how old your children are but some vaccinations contain msg as well.

Thanks for that link. Lot's of info on that site. :)

Rachel -- If you set a precedent and change the sub-title, you would likely have to change it again every 760 pages or so. :P

Mia -- Hope the treatment has some positive effects for you.

I am off to work to continue the "screening" process for work. The military medical people are now concerend about the "sensitivity to gluten" that was noted in my file. This should only take about all day to clear up. I would hate to think that this will kill any chance of further career advancement for me though.

Well, here goes nothing. I'll fill you all in as soon as I can.

Ryan,

I hope things go smoothly. It seems the military has ways of messing up people's careers for what I see as nothing. Why must people make such a big deal over being gluten free!

Yikes! What time do you have to be at work?

Well "technically" I'm supossed to be there at 4:30....but its a rare occassion that I get there on time....especially since I dont get up till 4 most days. Today I got there at about 10 to 6.

Today I start foods!! :D

I'm really excited but I'm not sure why....since I really dont see myself actually *eating* the foods that are cleared.

Heck....if I never eat them I wont get re-sensitized...right?? ;)

Good luck Ryan!!!

Rachel - I'm excited for you to go through the foods just to see what it says, lol.

Rachel - will you be tested for different temperatures of icecream?! Looking forward to hearing how it goes :)

I've started my elimination diet today. I'm rather fed up this evening as DH is eating loads of Christams chocolate. Doesn't quite compare with winter squash and fish lol! I think I need to reschedule my eating habits. I seem to need loads in the morning and it tails off througout the day. It's a bit awkward as I work mornings, but I think I'm going to have to have 2 breakfasts! My stomach really hurts tonight as I ate some with DS & DH but didn't really need to

DS likes this diet as I'm actually eating fish and he loves fish. We had to fight him off our plates to stop him eating our salmon this evening! (He's only 3 1/2!).

I've booked an appointment to see the GP with DS for next Monday to get him the blood test panel again, as his complaints of stomach and knee pains are on the increase :( If it comes back negative, we'll likely try him gluten free anyways. Not sure how he would take eating gluten free as he thinks I do because I'm a mummy (as he and DH aren't gluten-free, he's figured that it's not something boys do!! ).

Yep, it's hard to follow the diet when others are eating really good stuff, lol. Chocolate is supposed to be on the last things added back on the info that my doctor gave me, but heck, I can't even get past the first couple...I may never see chocolate.

ditto haha. that would be too funny.

maybe we should add some sort of short introduction to the beginning of the first post explaining what the thread is about? lol i dunno...

Well Happy New Year everyone. I'm in front of the computer today job searching (worst thing ever) but so far I've just been reading emails and this board and uploading pictures and I applied to be on a volunteer team (NONE of these things will help me make money )

Oh and I have a quick question, since you all are experts on toxins....is there a certain kind of water bottle you drink out of that doesn't leach toxins into the water? I bought a stainless steel one but it gives me a headache and makes the water taste like metal. Is glass the best option, toxin wise?

Fish is so easy to eat also. :)

:lol: He'll have to learn sometime that it's just not for mummy's. Cute!

Good idea M. Rachel would have to add to it since it's her post. Just a basic synopse of the stuff this thread covers.....well most of it. :)

Mercola says glass is best for water.

Good luck on the job search. What you've been doing today sounds like much more fun, I must say. :)

Yeah....they always say that glass bottles are the best choice. I dunno where the heck to find water thats bottled in glass though....I havent seen it yet....except one kind but it had added minerals. :(

I'm off to BioSet now...I feel like bringing a bottle of Corona with me and telling the lady to DE-SENSITIZE me. :P

Oh yeah....and also a lime.

Corona ... that would be bad for you on SOOOO many levels!! First the citrus (Lime, and what's a Corona without one), then the wheat, then the alcohol! Maybe you should try getting desensitized to a non-alcoholic wine!

I had coconut yesterday...I have never had a problem with it that I noticed before, but maybe because I haven't had any in a long time. I also had some white tea with vanilla in it, hum, maybe I should double check the ingredients to see what kind of vanilla.

Your post demonstrates the profound frustration and isolation that so many in the Celiac community feel, and I want to thank you for channeling that experience into advocacy. The medical gaslighting you endured for decades is an unacceptable and, sadly, a common story, and the fact that you now have to "school" your own GI specialist speaks volumes about the critical lack of consistent and updated education. Your idea to make Celiac Disease a reportable condition to public health authorities is a compelling and strategic one. This single action would force the system to formally acknowledge the prevalence and seriousness of the disease, creating a concrete dataset that could drive better research funding, shape medical school curricula, and validate the patient experience in a way that individual stories alone often cannot. It is an uphill battle, but contacting representatives, as you have done with Adam Gray, is exactly how change begins. By framing it as a public health necessity—a matter of patient safety and protection from misdiagnosis and neglect—you are building a powerful case. Your voice and your perseverance, forged through thirty years of struggle, are exactly what this community needs to ensure that no one else has to fight so hard just to be believed and properly cared for.

I had no idea there is a "Louisville" in Colorado!😉 I thought it was a typo because I always think of the Kentucky city--but good luck!

Navigating medication safety with Celiac disease can be incredibly stressful, especially when dealing with asthma and severe allergies on top of it. While I don't have personal experience with the HealthA2Z brand of cetirizine, your caution is absolutely warranted. The inactive ingredients in pills, known as excipients, are often where gluten can be hidden, and since the FDA does not require gluten-free labeling for prescription or over-the-counter drugs, the manufacturer's word is essential. The fact that you cannot get a clear answer from Allegiant Health is a significant red flag; a company that is confident its product is gluten-free will typically have a customer service protocol to answer that exact question. In situations like this, the safest course of action is to consider this product "guilty until proven innocent" and avoid it. A better alternative would be to ask your pharmacist or doctor to help you identify a major national brand of cetirizine (like Zyrtec) whose manufacturer has a verified, publicly stated gluten-free policy for that specific medication. It's not worth the risk to your health when reliable, verifiable options are almost certainly available to you. You can search this site for USA prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the medication and maker in the results, then scroll down to "Ingredients and Appearance" and click it, and then look at "Inactive Ingredients," as any gluten ingredients would likely appear there, rather than in the Active Ingredients area. https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/

What you're describing is indeed familiar to many in the Celiac community, especially in the early stages of healing. When the intestinal villi are damaged from Celiac disease, they struggle to properly digest and absorb fats, a condition known as bile acid malabsorption. This can cause exactly the kind of cramping and spasms you're seeing, as undigested fats can irritate the sensitive gut lining. It is highly plausible that her reactions to dairy and eggs are linked to their higher fat content rather than the proteins, especially since she tolerates lean chicken breast. The great news is that for many, this does improve with time. As her gut continues to heal on a strict gluten-free diet, her ability to produce the necessary enzymes and bile to break down fats should gradually return, allowing her to slowly tolerate a wider variety of foods. It's a slow process of healing, but your careful approach of focusing on low-fat, nutrient-dense foods like seeds and avocado is providing her system the best possible environment to recover. Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. This article may be helpful: Thank you for sharing your story—it's a valuable insight for other parents navigating similar challenges.

I had a very rough month after diagnosis. No exaggeration, lost so much inflammatory weight, I looked like a bag of bones, underneath i had been literally starving to death. I did start feeling noticeably better after a month of very strict control of my kitchen and home. What are you eating for breakfast and lunch? I ignored my doc and ate oats, yes they were gluten free, but some brands are at the higher end of gluten free. Lots of celics can eat Bob's Red Mill gluten-free oats, but not me. I can now eat them, but they have to be grown and processed according to the "purity protocol" methods. I mail order them, Montana Gluten-Free brand. A food and symptoms and activities log can be helpful in tracking down issues. You might be totally aware, but I have to mention about the risk of airborne gluten. As the doc that diagnosed me warned . . Remember eyes, ears, nose, and mouth all lead to your stomach and intestines.  Are you getting any cross contamination? Airborne gluten? Any pets eating gluten (they eat it, lick themselves, you pet them...)? Any house remodeling? We live in an older home, always fixing something. I've gotten glutened from the dust from cutting into plaster walls, possibly also plywood (glues). The suggestions by many here on vitamin supplements also really helped me. I had some lingering allergies and asthma, which are now 99% gone. I was taking Albuterol inhaler every hour just to breathe, but thiamine in form of benfotiamine kicked that down to 1-2 times a day within a few days of starting it. Also, since cutting out inflammatory seed oils (canola, sunflower, grapeseed, etc) and cooking with real olive oil, avocado oil, ghee, and coconut oil, I have noticed even greater improvement overall and haven't used the inhaler in months! It takes time to weed out everything in your life that contains gluten, and it takes awhile to heal and rebuild your health. At first it's mentally exhausting, overwhelming, even obsessive, but it gets better and second nature.
