Its good to have a red blood cell test to see exactly which minerals are needed....

Rachel, can you mention what lab you had? The intracellular one I had during the winter was Sprectracell, it checked lymphocyte cell levels. I'd love to get one that works that would be covered by insurance though.

1) Heal Leaky Gut

2) Check mineral levels and restore if possible

3) Test for Lyme and/or heavy metals

4) Chelation or some other process for removing heavy metals

5) Deal with candida through diet and anti fungals

6) start living a normal life again

Is this basically the process.

Any advice on my strategy would be appreciated.

Ken I agree with other posters that it is likely not going to be useful to do this on your own. Also if you do have lyme, you may have a major battle on your hands as this is a nasty bug that reeks havoc to the system.

Sherry,

Are you coming stateside home?

Yes, June 24--to have the malabsorption tests redone. By myself this time. My daughter has decided to wait for next spring for her wedding, but will get to participate in some of the plans maybe.

Kassandra,

Could you post again about what are the list of tests for iron? (or a link?)

I have been having so much trouble with fatigue I am thinking that is something I want to have thoroughly checked this summer.

Thanks!

Sherry,

It was Doctors Data.

Here is the link to the test I had done.

My tests through Doctors Data have been covered 50% by my insurance.

Rachel,

We talked about zinc to copper ratio the other day.

10 to1 must be the recommended daily amount in food or taking by supplement.

in serum it should be between.07-1,

which symptoms you get from oral supplements?

I will post this tomorrow. I have to look at the tests my hematologist orders for me, and I'll let you know. (I used to know off the top of my head, but Lyme brain... )

Rachel and Jin, I'm glad you had so much fun at your respective outings. :)

Rachel, since I don't drink at all now, I realize how many people don't drink, or don't drink much. It's hard to see that when you're drinking (not that I was ever able to drink much!). Especially today, no one notices or cares that you're drinking water.

The only one who says something is my FIL ..... don't know WHY he can't remember I can't drink or that I'm sick.

If you have google toolbar installed, you can have a button there for google bookmarks and you can import all your bookmarks into google bookmarks and use them at homa and at work.

I have not found any way to get tmen back into the microsoft internet explorer bookmark , though, unless you export the bookmarks (you should do taht periodically anyway as a backup) and then you dan copy them over to a memory pin and copy them to the home computer and import them back into the favourites.

I think if you have firefox as a browser it is possible to get them intohte favourites of several computers by using the gmarks application. First google bookmarks and then gmarks as far as I remember.

Thanks Nora...I am going to try this!

Its just a really great feeling to be participating in life again! :)

It's great to SEE you participate in life again!!! :)

Haven't written in a while. Think of all of you often - as I am dealing with many of the same issues. Because of this thread, I stopped eating high oxalate foods and it really cut down on my pain as i have fibromyalgia.

I recently had to stop taking my thyroid meds which I have to take as I have Grave's and then radioactive iodine and am now hypo. I started getting a horrible reaction, anxiety, splitting headache, crying jags, tightness in the chest. After much research I found Dr. Larry Wilson who is doing hair tests on me. I am, I guess, a slow oxidizer and every medicine I attempt to try, I get a toxic reaction. I can do without Nystatin, etc, but I can't do without my thyroid medication. It is a catch 22 and horrible for me. My naturopath etc, had me on T4 and T3, but I can't take T3 at all anymore so I am dealing with a very underactive thyroid for 8 weeks now and have gained 15 lbs which is the least of my worries but still a pain in the you know what.

So, my naturopath tested my copper along with other minerals and metals from blood serum levels and nothing unusual popped up. Do any of you think the copper may still be the problem? I was very discouraged to see nothing but I am still holding out hope for the hair analysis.

In the meantime as I wait for the hair analysis, my naturopath and I discussed the philosophy of only doing treatments to boost my system as opposed to anything to subtract from my system. Any time I try to subtract, like Nystatin OR the h-pylori protocol with Mastica and a charcoal complex activated my IBS-, I get horrible reactions that make me sicker than when I started. The only subtracting that doesn't hurt me is the subtraction of offending foods.

Which leads to another subject. In terms of Candida, has anyone tried the Specific Carbohydrate Diet? I know that when I stay away from starches and sugar (of course, but it is hard) I do feel a lot better energy wise.

I know this posting is all over the place. Sorry!

Nancy

Nancy,

You are in the right place!

Sounds like you might need to get your liver detox pathways checked. Your ND should be able to order this test. I had a similar problem. Everything I would take would start causing reactions. I found out through my Liver Detox Profile that my phase II pathways were sluggish and therefore normal everyday herbs, vitamins, ect would build up to toxic levels. I take specific nutrients that have worked wonders for me in that regard!

Rachel has posted a LOT of useful information about the liver pathways, also. You might check her posts in the last month or so.

I will try the dehumidifier. Im willing to try anything to survive in this house. Yesterday i was in and out so much that i was feeling really good. But then when i stayed in the house for the rest of the day, I got sick all over again. So i know its the house lol. Could i get mold floatign around from the house next door. I guess since I did go over and talk to them for aboue an hour, i could of breathed extra mold in.

All i know is i better find someone ASAP, or im going to be going crazy lol.

I only put a few drops in the water. Maybe 4-5 at the most.

paula

Paula,

I am so sorry about this mold problem. that must be so scary.

For mold to flourish it must have a source of moisture and a food source. Food sources can of course be wood, drywall, ect. If you run the dehumidifier constantly, you may reduce the moisture source, of course until you find out where the moisture is coming from.

If you can, keep the windows open to allow fresh air to come in. That's probably why you feel better when you are in and out of the house - you reduce your exposure.

Do you have a air cleaner yet? I think the one on Dr. Mercola's site kills mold bacteria in the air.

Is your house very shaded? Do you think the pipes are still leaking?

I think I did, but it has been 11 years since we got it. I was going to call the jewler, but he is closed on mondays. Do they cover the diamond just falling out? And wont i just get what it was insured for then, not what it is worth now? I finally called hubby and told him. He was like honey its ok, we will find out. If not i will buy a new one. But it isnt the same.

Finally caught up on reading!!!

How do you guys put multiple quotes in one reply??? I cannot figure this out!

I have been tired all week. Its really starting to get on my nerves.

I am really confused right now. The dr. said he was sure I didn't have lyme, although there is a slight chance. I feel like something in my body is always causing me to have symptoms. My symptoms are not as bad as everyone else's, but still - symptoms. I manage them with herbs, vitamins, minerals, acupuncture, ect, but if I was "normal" I wouldn't always be needing to "manage" a symptom. What else would cause my lymph system to have little pains here and there. It's wierd. I have to go to acupuncture every week to stay feeling normal. That is costly. I do like going though and it does help. But, what is causing me to have "issues" that I need to go for in the first place?

I know its not candida. I have it under control. My heavy metal test was not crazy looking. I do think I chelated metals and sent them straight to my liver last summer. (that time I ate a bunch of cilantro for like 5 days straight). Haven't really been the same since. Maybe that's my problem?

My Red Blood Cell analysis only indicated low calcium. Not severly low, but low enough. I have been taking my magnesium every night and my nails are looking much better!

I just don't get it. I don't really know where to go next with this.

I was thinking of ordering the nutramedix package and see how I feel. I don't have any major immune system issues. I hardly ever get sick from colds or viruses.

Anyway, This has been on my mind, lately.

I need someone knowledgable to look at my igenex test results and give me their opinion. Do you guys think I could post the results on lymenet and get a good analysis?

They'll cover the diamond falling out. It will be covered for what it's insured for. That should have adjusted over the years. It's not covered under homeowners, you would have to have a personal articles policy.

The thing is, most of the time we're covered for what the stone is worth. However, most jewelers will discount their jewelry, so you should be covered even if it was only insured for what it was worth 11 years ago.

If you have it scheduled under your homeowners policy then it would be covered for "mysterious dissapearance". They would pay for the stone to be replaced.

If you filed the last mold claim under insurance, this most likely "could" jeopardize your coverage - meaning you could get cancelled on next renewal. But there are always excess markets that will cover people with these type situations. The premiums are sometimes higher. They look back 3 years.

April, yes, post the results along with a description of your symptoms on LN. Also post them here ... many of us know a little about IGeneX. :)

Ok thanks carla. I guess i will have to wait til tommorow and talk to the guy lol. I have been cleaning and thinking and im 99 percent positive i insured it when we got it.

It isnt insured under the house, tg. It was insured under the jewlery guy. So that is a bright light. If it was under my house, i wouldnt claim it, cause then they would cancel me for sure lol

How do you guys put multiple quotes in one reply??? I cannot figure this out!

At the bottom right of each post there are some buttons "+ quote" and "reply". If there are several posts you want to quote, hit the "+ quote" button. Nothing happens except that the + turns to a - and the button turns red. Keep doing that until you have chosen all the posts you want to reply to, then at the bottom of the page hit the main reply button. All the posts you selected should turn up in the window. You ahve the choice of then deleting out the text of each quote that you don't want (but make sure to leave the quote tags intact)...then you just reply beneath that particular quote.

Paula,

I'm so sorry about your diamond. When we had our rings we had them insured through our jeweler. We had to renew the policy every year or two....I forget now.

April,

Yes, post your results here too please. We keep track of everyone here who's had and Igenex test done.

Paula,

Maybe things have changed or laws for this vary by state, but a number of years ago, I lost a diamond pendant--put it on and a few hours later, looked down and it was gone :(

Anyway, our homeowner's insurance covered it for the current (at the time) appraisal. Might be worth a try....

So, essentially all of the nutrition in the food we eat is absorbed through the villous lining of the small bowel. This is the section of the intestinal track that is damaged by celiac disease. This villous lining is composed of billions of finger-like projections that create a huge amount of surface area for absorbing nutrients. For the celiac person, when gluten is consumed, it triggers an autoimmune reaction in this area which, of course, generates inflammation. The antibodies connected with this inflammation is what the celiac blood tests are designed to detect but this inflammation, over time, wears down the finger-like projections of the villous lining. Of course, when this proceeds for an extended period of time, greatly reduces the absorption efficiency of the villous lining and often results in many and various nutrient deficiency-related health issues. Classic examples would be osteoporosis and iron deficiency. But there are many more. Low D3 levels is a well-known celiac-caused nutritional deficiency. So is low B12. All the B vitamins in fact. Magnesium, zinc, etc.  Celiac disease can also cause liver inflammation. You mention elevated ALP levels. Elevated liver enzymes over a period of 13 years was what led to my celiac diagnosis. Within three months of going gluten free my liver enzymes normalized. I had elevated AST and ALT. The development of sensitivities to other food proteins is very common in the celiac population. Most common cross reactive foods are dairy and oats but eggs, soy and corn are also relatively common offenders. Lactose intolerance is also common in the celiac population because of damage to the SB lining.  Eggs when they are scrambled or fried give me a gut ache. But when I poach them, they do not. The steam and heat of poaching causes a hydrolysis process that alters the protein in the egg. They don't bother me in baked goods either so I assume the same process is at work. I bought a plastic poacher on Amazon to make poaching very easy. All this to say that many of the issues you describe could be caused by celiac disease.

thank you so much for your detailed and extremely helpful reply!! I can say with absolute certainty that the less gluten containing products I've eaten over the past several years, the better I've felt.   I wasn't avoiding gluten, I was avoiding refined grains (and most processed foods) as well as anything that made me feel bad when I ate it. It's the same reason I gave up dairy and eggs- they make me feel ill.  I do have a bit of a sugar addiction lol so a lot of times I wasn't sure if it was the refined grains that I was eating - or the sugar. So from time to time I might have a cookie or something but I've learned how to make wonderful cookies and golden brownies with BEANS!! and no refined sugar - I use date paste instead. Pizza made me so ill- but I thought it was probably the cheese. I gave up pizza and haven't missed it. the one time I tried a slice I felt so bad I knew I'd never touch it again. I stopped eating wheat pasta at least 3 yrs ago- just didn't feel well after eating it. I tried chick pea pasta and a few others and discovered I like the brown rice pasta. I still don't eat a lot of pasta but it's nice for a change when I want something easy. TBH over the years I've wondered sometimes if I might be gluten intolerant but really believed it was not possible for me to have celiac disease. NOW I need to know for sure- because I'm in the middle of a long process of trying to find out why I have a high parathyroid level (NOT the thyroid- but rather the 4 glands that control the calcium balance in your body) I have had a hard time getting my vit D level up, my serum calcium has run on the low side of normal for many years... and now I am losing calcium from my bones and excreting it in my urine (some sort of renal calcium leak) Also have a high ALP since 2014. And now rapidly worsening bone density.  I still do not have a firm diagnosis. Could be secondary HPT (but secondary to what? we need to know) It could be early primary HPT. I am spilling calcium in my urine but is that caused by the high parathyroid hormone or is it the reason my PTH is high>? there are multiple feedback loops for this condition.    so I will keep eating the bread and some wheat germ that does not seem to bother me too much (it hasn't got enough gluten to use just wheat germ)    but I'm curious- if you don't have a strong reaction to a product- like me and wheat germ- does that mean it's ok to eat or is it still causing harm even if you don't have any obvious symptoms? I guess what you are saying about silent celiac makes it likely that you can have no symptoms and still have the harm... but geez! you'd think they'd come up with a way to test for this that didn't require you to consume something that makes you sick! I worry about the complications I've been reading about- different kinds of cancers etc. also wondering- are there degrees of celiac disease?  is there any correlation between symptoms and the amnt of damage to your intestines? I also need a firm diagnosis because I have an identical twin sister ... so if I have celiac, she has it too- or at least the genetic make up for having it. I did have a VERY major stress to my body in 2014-2016 time frame .. lost 50lbs in a short period of time and had severe symptoms from acute protracted withdrawal off an SSRI drug (that I'd been given an unethically high dose of, by a dr who has since lost his license)  Going off the drug was a good thing and in many ways my health improved dramatically- just losing 50lbs was helpful but I also went  off almost a dozen different medications, totally changed my diet and have been doing pretty well except for the past 3-4 yrs when the symptoms related to the parathyroid issue cropped up. It is likely that I had low vit D for some time and that caused me a lot of symptoms. The endo now tells me that low vit D can be caused by celiac disease so I need to know for sure! thank you for all that great and useful information!!!

Welcome, @catnapt! The most recent guidelines are the daily consumption of a minimum of 10g of gluten (about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) for a minimum of two weeks. But if possible stretching that out even more would enhance the chances of getting valid test results. These guidelines are for those who have been eating gluten free for a significant amount of time. It's called the "gluten challenge".  Yes, you can develop celiac disease at any stage of life. There is a genetic component but also a stress trigger that is needed to activate the celiac genes. About 30-40% of the general population possesses the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% of the general population actually develop celiac disease. For most with the potential, the triggering stress event doesn't happen. It can be many things but often it is a viral infection. Having said that, it is also the case that many, many people who eventually are diagnosed with celiac disease probably experienced the actual onset years before. Many celiacs are of the "silent" type, meaning that symptoms are largely missing or very minor and get overlooked until damage to the small bowel lining becomes advanced or they develop iron deficiency anemia or some other medical problem associated with celiac disease. Many, many are never diagnosed or are diagnosed later in life because they did not experience classic symptoms. And many physicians are only looking for classic symptoms. We now know that there are over 200 symptoms/medical problems associated with celiac disease but many docs are only looking for things like boating, gas, diarrhea. I certainly understand your concerns about not wanting to damage your body by taking on a gluten challenge. Your other option is to totally commit to gluten free eating and see if your symptoms improve. It can take two years or more for complete healing of the small bowel lining once going gluten free but usually people experience significant improvement well before then. If their is significant improvement in your symptoms when going seriously gluten free, then you likely have your answer. You would either have celiac disease or NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity).

after several years of issues with a para-gland issue, my endo has decided it's a good idea for me to be tested for celiac disease. I am 70 yrs old and stunned to learn that you can get celiac this late in life. I have just gradually stopped eating most foods that contain gluten over the past several years- they just make me feel ill- although I attributed it to other things like bread spiking blood sugar- or to the things I ate *with* the bread or crackers etc   I went to a party in Nov and ate a LOT of a vegan roast made with vital wheat gluten- as well as stuffing, rolls and pie crust... and OMG I was so sick! the pain, the bloating, the gas, the nausea... I didn't think it would ever end (but it did) and I was ready to go the ER but it finally subsided.   I mentioned this to my endo and now she wants me to be tested for celiac after 2 weeks of being on gluten foods. She has kind of flip flopped on how much gluten I should eat, telling me that if the symptoms are severe I can stop. I am eating 2-3 thin slices of bread per day (or english muffins) and wow- it does make me feel awful. But not as bad as when I ate that massive amnt of vital wheat gluten. so I will continue on if I have to... but what bothers me is - if it IS celiac, it seems stupid for lack of a better word, to intentionally cause more damage to my body... but I am also worried, on the other hand, that this is not a long enough challenge to make the blood work results valid.   can you give me any insight into this please?   thank you
    • trents
The biopsy looks for damage to the mucosal lining of the small bowel from the inflammation caused by celiac disease when gluten is ingested. Once you remove gluten from the diet, inflammation subsides and the mucosal lining begins to heal.
