I dont think its the caffeine because I actually have adverse reactions to caffeine...I can feel it. I've looked it up before and chocolate only contains caffeine in small amounts...not enough to really be noticeable.

I have had a reaction to the caffeine (I think) but only when I ate like 2 bags of it in one day. I get jittery, heart palps, sweating, insomnia...stuff like that.

From what I read the caffeine content varies according to the type of chocolate. The darker chocolate contains more....I dont eat dark chocolate though (too many amines).

Anything is possible.....I dont know....but I would think I'd feel bad eating chocolate brownies everyday if the caffeine content was high. Sometimes I actually notice that I feel better after eating chocolate (as long as its one that I tolerate).

I think it could be magnesium, especially if you are low.

Could you try several different forms of magnesium and see if any work better?

confused Community Regular

I know chocolate use to always make me regular. I also know if my mom needs to use the bathroom she will eat an peanut butter reses and it works like an charm. I really wish i could still eat that stuff.

I bet it is the magnesium tho. Im sure the lack of magnesium in my diet is responsible for me not using the bathroom all the time. Too bad i cant eat chocolate.

Everyone,

I did end up reacting to the cheese. I guess I can not add it back in like i hoped.

Sorry about the cheese Paula. :(

Rachel,

I'd think it's the magnesium too.

Hey everyone

I had a job interview today and I think it went pretty good. The lady was impressed by how much I knew about organic foods and meats. :) It's a gourmet pizza place called Pizza F usion. Ever eat at one? They make gluten free pizza and organic pizza's, sandwiches and salads. They even have gluten free beer paula called redbridge I think. They deliver pizza's in hybrid cars as well.

I asked the lady what kind of cleaners they use at the store and she said they are eco friendly green cleaners. Nothing with toxins. Cool huh? So I have a second interview with the owner and store manager. She passed me with the first interview. Only the people she feels good about she says she passes.:)

The store is brand new. Opening on Dec 16 of this year. So we had our interview at Starbucks across the street. I hope that I get the job. Waiora is slow and so is the catering. So well see.

Oh p.s.

Hershey's chocolate is constipating but cheap.

AndreaB Contributor

Sounds very promising Lisa. :) ......and like a good company to work for.

Juice is fine on SCD. You just have to confirm there is no added sugar.

oh good news! thought i was cheating...although have not officially started yet

guess we're doing pretty good when "junk food" becomes sweet potatoes and 100% juice ;)

rachel, you just reminded me to go take my magnesium hope you feel better

thanks!

Hi guys, I've been in Las Vegas. :) Fun, fun, fun. I kept up with everyone and even said I "used" to have Lyme. :)

We saw the Phantom of the Opera .... very cool!

One of our business trips next year is in .... guess where ..... San Francisco!!! Maybe I can finally meet some of you!

(I did not catch up, so if you wrote me, umm, you'll have to let me know)

mftnchn Explorer

Paula, sorry to hear this. I think the colonoscopy is a good idea. I just had a screening one this summer and it was relatively ok. Just the prep was rough.

Okay so I discovered something new. And you can take it for what it's worth but here it goes, how come evertime I get my regular my food taste like, well, gross. Like rotten meat.....

Gina C. Rookie

Rachel,

That is very interesting about the chocolate. I crave chocolate like there is no tomorrow (this coming from a girl who hated the stuff until I lost 90 lbs 3 yrs ago and then couldn't get enough)

I have battled constipation my whole life. I always thought it was "normaL' for me to go a couple times a week.

I didn't know about magnesium in chocolate. That may explain my cravings. I was very regular going a few times a day until I started the SCD diet and chocolate is not allowed/legal

I know that you need to take magnesium with calcium for absorption. Perhaps you needed to add calcium to your magnesium supplement. That also may be why the chocolate helps you, especially if you eat milk chocolate- it contains some calcium I would think.

It's funny that I have the same issues with caffieine as you. I cannot drink anything with caffeine- I get shaky and heart palps too. But I have no reaction to the caffeine in chocolate.

I miss chocolate! :(

Everyone,

I have been researching the occult blood thing and i think i had false postives. Everytime i did the test i was consuming lots of red meat. When they said no red meat, i had thought just no meat that still was red, like rare lol. But no they meant no red meat at all 3 days prior to testing. My nd even agrees that could be it. She beleives that people should only eat red meat once an week. Im going to give up red meat and retest in a couple of weeks. Of course if it comes back postive again, i will hurry up and get the colonscopy. I feel like an weight has been lifted from my shoulders this morning.

paula

AndreaB Contributor

Sorry guys, I've been scarce this weekend, but at least it wasn't busy here. :)

Paula,

I hope that the red meat is the answer. I do eat red meat more than once a week but we buy the 100% grass fed beef that is supposed to be much better for you. I'll be looking for updates when you have them.

Carla,

I'm so happy the treatments went so well for you. It would be so neat to be able to meet some friends from Cali.

Lisa,

As it's a way of removing toxins from the body I would wonder if that would effect you somehow? I don't have problems with food tasting off during that time, but I do get wiped out easily. I have not been eating very well lately either which won't help with anything.

nora-n Rookie

Jes, no red meat, nor any sharp vegetables like raw carrots in large pieces or thinlike that it said on my test I did three years ago.

..........

About me: I am doing a bit better now after my third scio machine treatment. I feel it working in my spine and head.

It all got better after that ball left my colon and then I detoxed a lot in the ionic foor bath.

I wonder what it would be like to just try the ionic foot bath now, if I keep detoxing like that. Just wondering. A lot of mercury left in the detox water.

tabasco32 Apprentice

Andrea, the funny thing is that my food also smells. My mom says my food smells bad when I cook it on my period. I wonder if it's a toxic period gas coming off my body? I think my jouney with toxic food and candy bars and ice cream will be coming to an end.

I haven't had my waiora zeolite either for 2 months so I think the toxicans are back full force.

Nora did you have to buy a special foot detox spa to use?

I hope that this is the answer, Paula!

Everyone,

I am so mad at the health insurance company. I made a claim for the Red Blood Cell Analysis done in January. They denied my claim. I gathered all the CPT codes and called and asked if these codes were covered. They said yes. So, I said then why are you denying my claim!? They said the medical review board determined it wasn't medically necessary!

They make me so mad! Who and why do THEY get to determine what is medically necessary? I realize that all the ND's and alternative doctors I see aren't covered, but labs are labs.

I filed an appeal and am prepared to bug the crap out of them until they pay it.

Hi Gina!

I'm also on SCD and constipation is my major celiac symptom. How long have you been gluten free and how long on SCD?

Magnesium helps a lot for me. I don't take much calcium with it, my doc isn't concerned about that for some reason. I take oral (quite a bit right now due to relapse after gluten contaminated spice recently), and injections of magnesium.

I'm on high doses of Vitamin D, and since I can't get that checked where I am, my doc told me to get a 24 hr urine calcium, because hypercalcemia would be a sign of too much vitamin D.

Hi Gina!

Sherry

Hi Sherry,

I have been gluten free since 5/08-- I have been on the SCD for three weeks now. Initially before going gluten-free- I was taking Triphala supplements to help me become regular- I started going gluten-free and then 3 months later stopped the Triphala because the company I was using did not have a contact # and never responded to my emails to inquire about allergens (most importantly- gluten).

After stopping I remained regular but was throughly enjoying myself on the gluten free sweets out there. I have very bad dishydrotic eczema and it comes and goes in severity (only steroid creams help). I decided that with all the weight I was putting on and the allergic reactions I was having (itching, hives, heart palps etc..) that I needed to tweak my diet once again and then was born the SCD diet for me after reading the threads on this wonderful website.

I am definitely struggling right now (major chocolate cravings and constipation has decided to pay another visit). But I am determined to give this diet a good try.

Everyone's insight and experiences into this diet and lifestyle help me tremendously, as does yours. Keep the info coming.

Have a great day (night  )

about the foot bath, I went to the wholistic practitioner I know, she is just a few minutes away. She has just a normal plastic tub or container which she lines with a plastic bag the right size and she puts the coil in it and a tiny bit of salt. The control unit is on the table next to it. It alternates between plus and minus. After half an hour the water was very dark and had lots of specks in it this time. The first two times were just light orange plus specks and stuff.

I had upped my dose of thyroid meds back to my old dose a couple of weeks ago (and doctor did not like it) ad the free's were well in to the lower half of the range.

Important news:

The WHO has made a resolution asking the member states to integrate complementary and alternative treatments in their health systems.

I have not gone to their site yet to find the official statement so I have no links yet.

mftnchn Explorer

Gina, I have been following Elaine's protocol for constipation that is on the www.pecanbread.com website, only I cannot get prune juice. You might check that out to try as well.

Hey guys...

Question, does anyone know anything about sjogren's syndrome?

I have had very dry eyes, and dry mouth and pain in my parotid glands (the ones in front of the ears and behind the jaw)

and it feels like I have run out of saliva.

Im going to see the eye doctor and a rheumatologist next week.

Ive also been having heart palpitations nausea and panic attacks this week, not being able to sleep and waking up with a racing heart. Not to mention headache.

I went to the emergency room on monday. Im really freaked out and I need some support right now.

:(

Christine,

I do not know anything about it. What did they say in the ER? Are they the ones that brought up sjorgens.

paula

AndreaB Contributor

I do know someone online who has it, but no I don't know anything about it. Sorry Christine. It is on the list of things that CAN be helped along with metals though. I'll find that part of the quote if you'd like.....it was from this thread I think.

I am on day 13 of eating gluten  and have decided to have the celiac panel done tomorrow instead of Wed. (and instead of extending it a few more weeks) because I am SO incredibly sick. I have almost no appetite and am not able to consume the required daily intake of calcium to try to keep up with the loss of calcium from the high parathyroid hormone and/or the renal calcium leak.    I have spent the past 15 years working hard to improve my health. I lost 50lbs, got off handfuls of medications, lowered my cholesterol to enviable levels, and in spite of having end stage osteoarthritis in both knees, with a good diet and keeping active I have NO pain in those joints- til now.  Almost all of my joints hurt now I feel like someone has repeatedly punched me all over my torso- even my ribs hurt- I have nausea, gas, bloating, headache, mood swings, irritability, horrid flatulence (afraid to leave the house or be in any enclosed spaces with other people- the smell would knock them off their feet) I was so sure that I wanted a firm diagnosis but now- I'm asking myself is THIS worth it? esp over the past 2 yrs I have been feeling better and better the more I adjusted my diet to exclude highly refined grains and processed foods. I didn't purposely avoid gluten, but it just happened that not eating gluten has made me feel better.   I don't know what I would have to gain by getting a definitive diagnosis. I think possibly the only advantage to a DX would be that I could insist on gluten-free foods in settings where I am unable to have access to foods of my choice (hospital, rehab, nursing home)  and maybe having a medical reason to see a dietician?   please let me know if it's reasonable to just go back to the way I was eating.  Actually I do plan to buy certified gluten-free oats as that is the only grain I consume (and really like) so there will be some minor tweaks I hope and pray that I heal quickly from any possible damage that may have been done from 13 days of eating gluten.

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
