Picard- I'm supposed to do that same test for lactose. Been putting it off for months as I don't eat much lactose anyway and I'd have to drive an hoour and a half to do the the test.

Isn't TODAY the official full moon? Karen- I really miss you when you go off in your straight jacket.

I say we all congegate here tonight under the full moon and dance naked! Hey- it beats being in a straight jacket. And since rachelville is on the ocean, which is always warm, we can skinny dip. My dad's been in town for the week, too. He's 70 and could also use an older single woman for company ;) We're going to the mall ... blueberry picking sounds fun ... but he wants to take my other daughter (not Morgan or Chloe) shopping for her birthday.

Well, all the gluten-free people in our house are here!!! Morgan, Chloe, and me!! Morgan has her own laptop, so do I. The family computer is disconnected from the internet right now, so Chloe is having a fit. Maybe I'll let her on mine later.

If everyone was over here, then, OMG, it would truely be madness!!!! Rachelville would have five more town idiots since they are all gluten eaters, and our house would be a civil war for the computer...if it's not already in the midst of that war now.

Oh I do nto see him for the test, the test has to be done by the radiolisgt ppl with all teh fancy licenses/stickes/etc that say they can use nuclear materail and stuff. He will get the results and call me, usally the same day, but sometimes the next day.

Fine okay heres the post I made on it about 9.7 billion pages back....

The MUGA Scan... aka MUltiple Gated Acquisition is a pretty easy test realy. I show up and they take some blood (why do docs ALWAYS need blood? Sheesh) and then they put a radiotative dye in it and inject it back in to me. Thats the freakest part cause you blood at this point is COLD and it it freaking weird feeling it travel up you arm to your heart. Theres no way to describe how wierd that feels.. anyways after that they stick me under a big camera and I have to try and lay still for it for a while OMG thats so HARD!

As for why? The short version, my heart is all brooken and stuff.

The longer version... I have a left bundle branch block. You see there are 2 major nerve branches that contorl your heart, one on the right and one on the left. In my case the one onthe left is non functional (aka dead) so theres no "BEAT NOW" message being sent to the left side of my heart. The body is designed with a back up plan for this case, and the message can travel via the right side and jump over, but its slower and less efficent. So the end result is my heart does not pump enough blood. I score about 44 or so % in what they call "ejection faction", which is not at all good.

So I get this MUGA twice a year to see if its getting worse or stable. If its stalbe I might be okay, if its getting worse that would be very bad. A pacemaker is almost garrenteed to be in my future... oh yea. Im only 31 way to young for this junk.

Humour, madness, lots of kooks (yes, the Canadians are adding some kind of crazy Canuck influence :P ), plus pandas and dingos and geese, oh my....but not only the madness, we talk about everything! our poop, periods :ph34r: , glutenings, myriad food issues, home decor, dating, our cult-town paradise, scrunchies and bracelets, Nuggets and Bumbles (we talk about chocolate a lot here), straightjackets and altoids, on and on....and Rachel will blind you with SCIENCE!!

      @Alibu, Migraines ran in my family as well.  Correcting my Thiamine insufficiency made a dramatic improvement in frequency and duration.   If you take Thiamine, B12 and B6 together, they have analgesic (pain relieving) properties.  Taking thiamine every day has cut down on their occurrence and severity for me.   Take Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine or TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide).  These forms get into the brain easily.  Magnesium Threonate gets into the brain easily, too, and helps thiamine work.  My gave a sigh of relief when I first took it, and no migraines. Yes, lowering histamine levels helps one feel better, too.  Vitamin C and B12 help reduce histamine.  A low histamine diet can help, too.  DAO supplements lower histamine, as well.  DOA is a digestive enzyme we can run short on.

      @ehb   Great you're going to start the AIP diet!  I know it's scary and stressful, but you'll soon start feeling better.  It's a challenge, but you can make it.  Do ask for a Erythrocyte Transketolace test which tests for Thiamine level.   I hope your Vitamin D level is between 70 and 100 nmol/L.  In this optimal range, Vitamin D can act like a hormone and regulate the immune system.  Vitamin D 3 is the form that the body can utilize well.  I was prescribed the synthetic firm D2 and my body didn't like it.  I know getting my Vitamin D up in the eighties made a world of difference to me.  My depression improved and I felt so much better at higher levels.   I prefer Life Extension brand for many vitamins.  The important thing is to read the label and watch out for fillers like rice flour.  This may help. Keep us posted on your progress!

      @knitty kitty I have an appointment to go over the results tomorrow. Vitamin D was in the normal range. I’ve decided to start the gluten contamination elimination diet, while avoiding nightshades as recommended by the AIP. I am still hoping to get support from a nutritionist or advice from the doctor about supplements to make sure I’m getting enough nutrients. I’m still having a hard time sorting through all of the different brands and possible combinations

      We've definitely all had such thoughts.  But as Scott says, it does get easier with time.  I'm not sure where you are posting from but in England where I live, over the last ten years or so most things I missed at first now have gluten free substitutes.   I still miss Twix bars, and chocolate Penguins (a type of biscuit) but I'm hoping sooner or later someone will create a decent substitute for them! One thing that I remember my husband said to me when I was feeling down one day  was: "Why don't you try to think of all the things you can still eat, rather than the things you can't?"  The list is long, and it did help - sort of!
