I'm not sure but it seems plausible to me. I've had cats in the past and I've never had that problem, although we've not been gone through the week.

Andrea....I think I've seen mold grow on stuff in the yard before.....like dog poop....which I dont clean on a daily basis. I just never seen this happen in my house...and especially on the carpet. It was shocking! :o

I asked M. if this means we've got mold spores all over the house or something??

She said I should know by now that mold can grow just about anywhere. She said she doesnt know how...but it just does.

She said it doesnt mean the mold is everywhere....it just grew on the food that the cat barfed up. I hope shes right. I was scared.

Those parties were such fun, remember Floridian getting "spinached".

ROFL...

Who could forget SPINACH!! :lol::lol:

After Celia "spinached" herself there were pages and pages of spinaching going on....the word had multiple meanings!

I wonder what the heck lurkers thought when we were constantly making jokes about "spinaching" ourselves.

Let's face it, if Julian Macmahon played a hemorrhoid, I would watch it!

:lol::lol:

That cracked me up!

I think M is probably right. You did say the food was still whole. It's amazing how they can gulp food down whole.

I don't want to think about that. :P

Took a trip down memory lane....searched "spinached" in Rachelville. B)

Here is some of what I found...

What does "spinached" mean anyway??

Posted by Lisa Baker

As far as I am concerned or informed, it's the primary symptom of Celiac. But, I'm not as quick as others, but it has adapted well to my use. And use it every opportunity appropriate.

Posted by Rachel--24

Its meaning seems to have evolved into...well, just about anything you want!

Dunno what to make of it and actually I'm feeling rather "spinached" right now so gonna sign off for awhile. You figure it out. :P

Posted by Mango04

I hope everyone has a wonderful spinach-free evening (er- is "spinached" a good thing? I might have missed that). Keep relevating! B)

Posted by Rachel--24

Ummm...getting "spinached" would not be a good thing at all....just ask Celia's hubby.

Posted by JulieM

I still don't know the official definition of "spinach"

At this point it seems to be just about anything.

Posted by JenyAndreson

Maybe it's a replacement for cuss words. Kind of like the word "Smurf". As in..."My Mom was a real spinach at Thanksgiving last year."

Posted by DingoGirl

yes! or, it could mean you, um, soiled your bed, and I don't mean WET the bed....as in, "OMG I've spinached the bed again..."

Posted by Rinne

Okay, if relevations is the word for an OMG moment in Rachelville then I think saying, "I'm spinached" means I am rolling on the floor laughing my *** off.

Posted by DingoGirl

wellll, technically, we started out by saying something about laughing so hard we spinached our pants...I can't trace the actual etymoligical (sp?) origins of our new word....but our dingbat Cecile had it all over her bed, there may have been some mention (probably by yours truly ) of the fact that it was a good thing it was only SPINACH, and, um, not something else ("I spinached the bed")....I don't know....it's all hazy now as my brain seems to have turned to.....SPINACH.... and in that instance I mean MUSH....

Posted by TheDave

So pulling a "Dave" and "spinached" are similar? That's not good...

How to use "spinached" in a sentence....the correct usage:

Posted by DingoGirl

and please note that it can either be a noun - "you are such a little spinach" or a verb "I laughed so hard I spinached my pants"...

Posted by Mango04

Food is now the least of my worries. I am feeling a bit spinached over trying to find a job, but...oh well, I'm having fun. I still don't know exactly what spinached means, by the way, but I thought it'd be fun to try to use it in a sentence.

Posted by Robbin

Ok, he is the village idiot, geeeez, he doesn't even know what wordage is. I bet he never heard of being spinached, or even had a relevation, lol

Getting "spinached"....

Posted by DingoGirl

Ryan - was it you that posted something about Blue Diamond Nut Thins? Welllll.....finally tried them last night and am rubbish today (spinached) - - feel like lead and can hardly move

Posted by Picard

These do not sound like fun! I think I am going to be spinached and pulling a Dave all at once. The testing service just warned me I may be visiting the porcelain god after both tests.

Posted by DingoGirl

...but remember when it all happened, at that time I think our President was in a gluten coma, she may not have been working at that time and was permantly spinached to her bed....

Posted by Rachel--24

I was out of commission during that time. What else did I have to do with my time as I lay spinached out in my bed all day! There was nothing else on TV at that time....and yes, I was in a gluten coma....stuffing myself with Big Macs and Macaroni and cheese.

Posted by DingoGirl

where's Rachel? do you think she's spinached herself into oblivion from too much ice cream???????

Posted by Rachel--24

That is freakin hilarious!!! I cant believe Celia got "spinached" like that!!

Posted by Rinne

I cannot stop laughing about this. I am glad it helped given it made such a mess, not glutened, spinached.

Posted by Nikki-UK

Rachel-hope you're not laying in a spinached mess

Posted by Robbin

Who spinached themselves?

Posted by Penguin

As part of my last 21 days of gluten eating, I had a GIGANTIC greek meal, and nearly spinached myself because of it!

Posted by DingoGirl

OHHH GAAAAWDD and now I almost spinached myself..... or at least peed my pants...

Posted by JerseyAngel

How is my spinached, square-wheeled twin Celia this morning? I laugh whenever I read you clip-clopping along

Posted by DingoGirl

hope I don't spinach the bed tonight. ;)

Not getting "spinached".....

Posted by Rinne

I'm "lurking' along with all of you though not so talkative today, not a great day but at least I haven't been spinached.

Posted by MtnDog

Stay away from the ice cream, auxigro, NUGGETS, hershey's, bird poop, Bumble Bars, and ticks. But.... indulge in some romance. You can't get glutened, spinached, nuggeted or soyed by it! It's healthy.

Posted by Evie

Sorry you got broccolied, not spinached!!!

The second word in the Rachelville Dictionary....Spinach/Spinached/Spinaching

Posted by dlp252

 Spinached!

Posted by DingoGirl

like, holy moly, Rachel needs to grow her own vegetables, and, I hope Cecile feels okay today, and how was Lynne's wedding, etc. etc.....and how some of my friends are usign the word SPINACHED now...ha ha.....

Posted by JerseyAngel

Great idea, Mia! Now "Dave" will go on the list of "Rachelisms"--right after "spinached"

How it all started....

Posted by Floridian

To lighten today up a little.... I HAVE to tell you all this......this morning Tony woke up with wet goop all over and on him and freaked out, he thought my insides were coming out.... all I had last night was a package of spinach so I used this instead of my ice pack... and this was a frozen cardboard box and I fell asleep with it on my tummy and of course rolled around during my sleep... well the spinach thawed and oozed out of the corners...

HILARIOUS!!!

It was his food that he barfed up and they were whole.....apparantly he doesnt chew at all??

Anyways....when I went to pick it up underneath the food was completely black with MOLD!!! :o

I've never seen anything like this and my cat has puked a gazzilion times in his 13 years. The carpet was BLACK. I totally freaked out.

Not only was I staring at black mold but my light grey carpet was coated with it!!

I didnt even get a mask or anything....I just started cleaning it up. It didnt seem like it would come clean but thankfully its about 98% better.

Is this normal?? Like if my cat barfed earlier in the week and it was moist....could it just grow mold like that??

Well, yes, mold can grow quickly. I've never been gone as long as a week, but I know it doesn't take long. An example, I eat nut butters, when the jar is empty I fill it with water to soften up the left overs so I can rinse it out clean for recycling. I usually leave it in the sink with the cap on while I let it soak. One day a couple of weeks ago, I guess I had left the jar in the sink for a week, and decided it was time to empty and recycle. When I opened the jar it was full of mold! Even with all the water...what the stupid mold could find of the peanut butter, it grew on!!! And, there was a lot of it!

I am questioning my diagnosis. I really wonder whether or not mercury and candida are more my problems at this time than Lyme. I also had a filling break about three years ago and may have swallowed some of it, in fact I pretty much think I did though I wish I didn't. Anyways it was the winter before that that I had the tick rash and I think the mercury just took me down. I've been taking the chlorella for two weeks now and am noticing an improvement but then I am doing so much to lean in the direction of health that it is difficult to pinpoint just one thing and say it is what is doing it. I took the Samento for four months and did not see a signifigant change but then I got well enough to be willing to experiment and that in itself is a real leap forward. I'm not sitting round pulling the skin away from my torso because of the pain and I haven't been doing that for a while. I've also heard that taking Samento for too long can lead to the Lyme retreating to a cyst form.

I've just been thinking about all this...while I was talking to Scott yesterday he asked if I had lyme too. I told him I didn't think so because Anna's testing didn't pick it up, but that I have so many of the symptoms. Later in the day I was thinking about that again, and truly, the symptoms for all three things, lyme, candida and mercury are just to interchangeable that it's hard to know what's coming from what. I still don't think I could have lyme if Anna didn't find it, but heck, the darned symptoms are almost interchangeable!!! I don't blame you or Rachel for questioning what is causing your symtpoms, although I DO think both of you have lyme...it just may not be what's causing your symptoms.

I guess I am relying on ART to put the focus where it needs to be....I dont know of any other test that can indentify the problems as well as prioritize them. I'm hoping all that I've heard about this method proves to be true.

This is what I'm hoping for me and this is what I told Scott...I just need to know what to start with cuz I just feel like I'm a ship without a rudder now...adrift in a sea of symptoms which could be from any darned thing.:lol:

I'm sure after my week of heinous mood swings my mom would disagree.....and most likely would ask that everyone please refrain from Rachelizing.

Rinne, the borrelia can change into cyst form (and two other forms), that's why my LLMD has me on three different antibiotics for it. I've also read that taking Artemisia on its own can make the babesia become more resistant ... that's why they generally prescribe Zithromax or Biaxin with it. I never had the night sweats nightly, it's always been sporadically.

Looking back I can see two things that I've done right, one is get my fillings removed and took the supplements to get rid of the mercury, the other is being proactive about keeping down the candida population. Back in 91 when I got the fillings out and went on the anti-candida diet, I put the Lyme into remission for over a decade.

In my opinion, if addressing the mercury and the candida gets your Lyme into remission, why bother addressing it? It's my understanding that it's unlikely to ever be totally eradicated, that your immune system eventually has to learn to keep it in check.

However, I don't think that just because you feel better getting rid of mercury and candida that there is no Lyme. I think it's more likely that you are just feeling better getting stress off your immune system. My immune system has been able to handle this Lyme all these years in the absence of stress ... stress is my trigger for symptoms -- big stress, not ordinary stress.

I went back  ... Rinne, you had 31, 34, and 39 all show up as IND (not negative). They are all very specific to Lyme ... I wouldn't be questioning it too much ... but I don't think you're wrong on focusing on the candida and mercury. I think the three -- Lyme, mercury, and candida -- all play a role. You could always get retested for the Lyme .... now that you've been stirring it up you might test more strongly positive.

NGG, I don't pay attention to reviews ... in fact, many times if a movie has won an award, it's a clear indication I won't like it.:lol:

This is what I talked to Dr. Harris about at IgeniX. I figure he's the expert at reading these tests right??

I had those bands as IND's too. He said this does not mean I have Lyme or dont have Lyme. It basically means nothing.

It means that the technician running the test wasnt sure. He puts IND when he isnt sure....it doesnt mean anything except that the test should be redone to hopefully get more clear results.

After my talk with him I believe that there is reason to question when the results arent clear. When I asked him if my test results suggest Lyme he said "No". He also said the results dont rule it out. The results are a big ?? when they are IND.

A person can have IND's on their results and NOT have Lyme Disease.

It really doesnt matter which bands are IND....what matters are positives and negatives.

I think its definately possible that me and Rinne both have Lyme but its not a "sure thing" by any means.

No, not a sure thing. Even with a positive test, it's still a clinical diagnosis based on symptoms with the test as support.

Fun!!! Random would be fun too! It'll be like a surprise. We'll just log on one day and see a random "clip" of the Rachelville history.

I could use that after the last few days. :( I'm a bit down today. But also a bit happy. How can that be? Split personality perhaps?!

I think I am just rummy from lack of sleep. I haven't been sleeping well again for about two weeks, and then last night some yahoo keeps calling at 2:00 in the morning!!! I finally answered cuz I thought it must be something important for someone to keep calling. It wasn't.

But also my car was more than double what I thought it would cost because while they were working on it they found a leak in the exhaust. :( Stupid car repairs, I'm going back to Toyota, lol. I asked if I could run the car with it, and they said, well, you might get some fumes if you use the "fresh air" feature. Okay, fix it.

Then today I get a bill from Dr. Adams...I owe $300 MORE that my insurance wouldn't pay. I hope that's it, cuz the amount they expect from the insurance co. is $1700, and if the insurance won't pay then I have to!!! Yikes.

My neck really hurts...did I tell you that early Friday morning (around 2:00) I woke up on my back and my neck hurt so bad I couldn't move...I had to use my hands to turn my head so I could sleep on my side (which I usually do). Once I was on my side the pain subsided.

I finally got my bonus and back pay for the raise that was supposed to be effective January 1...it's all gone cuz of car repairs and bills. :(

BUT, it's an absolutely BEAUTIFUL day here, so I grabbed my Nano and went for a long really brisk walk, which felt really good and hence why I'm happy I think. And yesterday I bought some nail polish from Whole Foods and have nice fuschia pink toe nails...how can I be down with beautiful sunshine and bright pink toenails.

Donna, glad you're happy despite the financial concerns. :)

Yesterday Adam was telling me that his family was having a reunion this summer. We haven't seen his extended family since the last one years ago. He told me it'd be in NY.

I said I hoped it was in a place covered in cement in NY ... he laughed and said it was at a State Park, but he guesses we won't be going! LOL NO WAY am I going to a State Park in an endemic region for Lyme! Maybe there will be a resort close by so we can stay there and just go to the inside reunion functions.

Donna,

I'm with you on the financial woe sadness. :( I hope your insurance comes through with the funds for the rest of the bill.

Thank you all for your advice and the dermatitis herpetiformis article. The latter made me realise I had stopped taking my antihistamine, which I will restart today. The Dapsone has cleared the rash entirely but I still get quite a bit itching, absolutely nothing to see though. I know its notoriously hard to clear and its still relatively early days for me.  The iodine issue is very interesting. I do eat quite a bit of salt because I have Addison's disease and sodium retention is an issue. I also have autoimmune hypothyroidism, not sure how a low iodine diet would play into that? Because of my Addison's I am totally steroid dependent, I take steroids 4 x daily and cannot mount any defence against inflammation. I need to increase my meds for that. Now that I know what is wrong I can do just that if Im having a bad day. Life is very sweet, just so damn complicated sometimes! Hey ho, onwards. Thank you again for your advice.

So, essentially all of the nutrition in the food we eat is absorbed through the villous lining of the small bowel. This is the section of the intestinal track that is damaged by celiac disease. This villous lining is composed of billions of finger-like projections that create a huge amount of surface area for absorbing nutrients. For the celiac person, when gluten is consumed, it triggers an autoimmune reaction in this area which, of course, generates inflammation. The antibodies connected with this inflammation is what the celiac blood tests are designed to detect but this inflammation, over time, wears down the finger-like projections of the villous lining. Of course, when this proceeds for an extended period of time, greatly reduces the absorption efficiency of the villous lining and often results in many and various nutrient deficiency-related health issues. Classic examples would be osteoporosis and iron deficiency. But there are many more. Low D3 levels is a well-known celiac-caused nutritional deficiency. So is low B12. All the B vitamins in fact. Magnesium, zinc, etc.  Celiac disease can also cause liver inflammation. You mention elevated ALP levels. Elevated liver enzymes over a period of 13 years was what led to my celiac diagnosis. Within three months of going gluten free my liver enzymes normalized. I had elevated AST and ALT. The development of sensitivities to other food proteins is very common in the celiac population. Most common cross reactive foods are dairy and oats but eggs, soy and corn are also relatively common offenders. Lactose intolerance is also common in the celiac population because of damage to the SB lining.  Eggs when they are scrambled or fried give me a gut ache. But when I poach them, they do not. The steam and heat of poaching causes a hydrolysis process that alters the protein in the egg. They don't bother me in baked goods either so I assume the same process is at work. I bought a plastic poacher on Amazon to make poaching very easy. All this to say that many of the issues you describe could be caused by celiac disease.

thank you so much for your detailed and extremely helpful reply!! I can say with absolute certainty that the less gluten containing products I've eaten over the past several years, the better I've felt.   I wasn't avoiding gluten, I was avoiding refined grains (and most processed foods) as well as anything that made me feel bad when I ate it. It's the same reason I gave up dairy and eggs- they make me feel ill.  I do have a bit of a sugar addiction lol so a lot of times I wasn't sure if it was the refined grains that I was eating - or the sugar. So from time to time I might have a cookie or something but I've learned how to make wonderful cookies and golden brownies with BEANS!! and no refined sugar - I use date paste instead. Pizza made me so ill- but I thought it was probably the cheese. I gave up pizza and haven't missed it. the one time I tried a slice I felt so bad I knew I'd never touch it again. I stopped eating wheat pasta at least 3 yrs ago- just didn't feel well after eating it. I tried chick pea pasta and a few others and discovered I like the brown rice pasta. I still don't eat a lot of pasta but it's nice for a change when I want something easy. TBH over the years I've wondered sometimes if I might be gluten intolerant but really believed it was not possible for me to have celiac disease. NOW I need to know for sure- because I'm in the middle of a long process of trying to find out why I have a high parathyroid level (NOT the thyroid- but rather the 4 glands that control the calcium balance in your body) I have had a hard time getting my vit D level up, my serum calcium has run on the low side of normal for many years... and now I am losing calcium from my bones and excreting it in my urine (some sort of renal calcium leak) Also have a high ALP since 2014. And now rapidly worsening bone density.  I still do not have a firm diagnosis. Could be secondary HPT (but secondary to what? we need to know) It could be early primary HPT. I am spilling calcium in my urine but is that caused by the high parathyroid hormone or is it the reason my PTH is high>? there are multiple feedback loops for this condition.    so I will keep eating the bread and some wheat germ that does not seem to bother me too much (it hasn't got enough gluten to use just wheat germ)    but I'm curious- if you don't have a strong reaction to a product- like me and wheat germ- does that mean it's ok to eat or is it still causing harm even if you don't have any obvious symptoms? I guess what you are saying about silent celiac makes it likely that you can have no symptoms and still have the harm... but geez! you'd think they'd come up with a way to test for this that didn't require you to consume something that makes you sick! I worry about the complications I've been reading about- different kinds of cancers etc. also wondering- are there degrees of celiac disease?  is there any correlation between symptoms and the amnt of damage to your intestines? I also need a firm diagnosis because I have an identical twin sister ... so if I have celiac, she has it too- or at least the genetic make up for having it. I did have a VERY major stress to my body in 2014-2016 time frame .. lost 50lbs in a short period of time and had severe symptoms from acute protracted withdrawal off an SSRI drug (that I'd been given an unethically high dose of, by a dr who has since lost his license)  Going off the drug was a good thing and in many ways my health improved dramatically- just losing 50lbs was helpful but I also went  off almost a dozen different medications, totally changed my diet and have been doing pretty well except for the past 3-4 yrs when the symptoms related to the parathyroid issue cropped up. It is likely that I had low vit D for some time and that caused me a lot of symptoms. The endo now tells me that low vit D can be caused by celiac disease so I need to know for sure! thank you for all that great and useful information!!!

Welcome, @catnapt! The most recent guidelines are the daily consumption of a minimum of 10g of gluten (about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) for a minimum of two weeks. But if possible stretching that out even more would enhance the chances of getting valid test results. These guidelines are for those who have been eating gluten free for a significant amount of time. It's called the "gluten challenge".  Yes, you can develop celiac disease at any stage of life. There is a genetic component but also a stress trigger that is needed to activate the celiac genes. About 30-40% of the general population possesses the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% of the general population actually develop celiac disease. For most with the potential, the triggering stress event doesn't happen. It can be many things but often it is a viral infection. Having said that, it is also the case that many, many people who eventually are diagnosed with celiac disease probably experienced the actual onset years before. Many celiacs are of the "silent" type, meaning that symptoms are largely missing or very minor and get overlooked until damage to the small bowel lining becomes advanced or they develop iron deficiency anemia or some other medical problem associated with celiac disease. Many, many are never diagnosed or are diagnosed later in life because they did not experience classic symptoms. And many physicians are only looking for classic symptoms. We now know that there are over 200 symptoms/medical problems associated with celiac disease but many docs are only looking for things like boating, gas, diarrhea. I certainly understand your concerns about not wanting to damage your body by taking on a gluten challenge. Your other option is to totally commit to gluten free eating and see if your symptoms improve. It can take two years or more for complete healing of the small bowel lining once going gluten free but usually people experience significant improvement well before then. If their is significant improvement in your symptoms when going seriously gluten free, then you likely have your answer. You would either have celiac disease or NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity).

after several years of issues with a para-gland issue, my endo has decided it's a good idea for me to be tested for celiac disease. I am 70 yrs old and stunned to learn that you can get celiac this late in life. I have just gradually stopped eating most foods that contain gluten over the past several years- they just make me feel ill- although I attributed it to other things like bread spiking blood sugar- or to the things I ate *with* the bread or crackers etc   I went to a party in Nov and ate a LOT of a vegan roast made with vital wheat gluten- as well as stuffing, rolls and pie crust... and OMG I was so sick! the pain, the bloating, the gas, the nausea... I didn't think it would ever end (but it did) and I was ready to go the ER but it finally subsided.   I mentioned this to my endo and now she wants me to be tested for celiac after 2 weeks of being on gluten foods. She has kind of flip flopped on how much gluten I should eat, telling me that if the symptoms are severe I can stop. I am eating 2-3 thin slices of bread per day (or english muffins) and wow- it does make me feel awful. But not as bad as when I ate that massive amnt of vital wheat gluten. so I will continue on if I have to... but what bothers me is - if it IS celiac, it seems stupid for lack of a better word, to intentionally cause more damage to my body... but I am also worried, on the other hand, that this is not a long enough challenge to make the blood work results valid.   can you give me any insight into this please?   thank you
