. . . . got my new Ipod hooked up (loaded lots of Primus - Ah, Primus),

AAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!

" . .. . . .one too many Camparis one night . . wrapped himself around a telephone pole!"

(OMG I was verifying the phrasing & all the sites have "cold beers" in place of Camparis!! I even went and tried Campari drinks in Los Gatos once because of this song!! Kat!! <u cheese-sailor u> PLEASE say u hear it as Campari!! Campari & soda on the rocks is tasty!! )

I think that hope is highly under-rated. I believe that things will get better and I believe that the faith that many of you have (faith that you will get better) has pushed me in that direction and I want to again say Thank You.

Amen sister!!

Hope gets its due in R'ville. :)

Don't be too surprised that the 1st time I bought fem hygiene products was in the mid-80s. :P

(Some comedian had a funny bit about what the tampon-buying guy says to the playboy-buying guy. Alas - it escapes me)

I think it's worse that I have to buy Adam's Preparation H wipes ... at least when he buys tampons they know they're not for him!

I always thought it was Campari's ! I think they have it wrong. Campari & Soda - Cool and refreshing ! Had my first taste of this delectible bitter-sweet beauty in Italy. Forgot about those, but never forgot about Jerry - or John - or Harold !

When the going gets tough and the stomach acids flow ... hmmm - never thought I'd actually be sailing the seas of cheese, but here we are. Must say - it's the bass (again with the bass guitar) & not the voice that turns me on. Les is King.

R'ville is saving my sanity. I finally feel like I'm on the right track.

RE: Men and Tampons:

I'd not trust my husband to get me tampons - without a detailed description of what I was looking for, he'd probably come home with a pregnancy test ! :P

Hi guys

Still feel like death. Nothing but death. I just wanted to know if raw sunflower seeds contain mold. I bought some at trader joes and want to roast and paste my own seed butter. Thank guys.

Rachel

Sorry about the other night. These people are just ignorant. I don't know if I will even make it to the dmsa. They have to do iv treatment with depleted minerals. Test me to see which ones I need with a stupid hair analysis. Still have to order the DMSA. I am so weak.

I told my mom I am writing out a will to give my car and misilanious stuff away. Better be prepared I guess. My stomach makes popping bubbly noises all day. Always hungry even after a big meal. All my food undigested stool.

I will start nystatin for yeast.

What is caprylic acid?

got to go now

lisa :(

Rachel,

Which lab did your hair analysis?

I dont remember which lab I used because I had it done in 2004. I have the paperwork but its at home in Manteca. I ordered it myself....cut off a chunk of my hair and shipped it back to them. I didnt have any Dr.'s helping me back then.

Rachel--24 Collaborator
If your body is that depleted it may take some time to build up to where the extra will make a difference. I assume you're handling it ok?

Is your appointment in the afternoon? I assume so, so that means we won't see you until Saturday evening.

Hopefully it builds up soon cuz I've only got 2 more days left.

Yup...no computer till late Sat. If I'm sleeping alot it may not be till Sunday. :)

Rachel--24 Collaborator
Rachel, I seem to remember reading that once you're taking the amount of vit c your body needs, that's when you'll start getting the loose bms, so maybe it does indicate that you need the vit c a lot. Also, do try and drink a lot of water (2 litres at least). Can you tolerate anythign like figs or sharon fruit, coz they'd help :P How much is in each of the capsules?

I cant have any figs or anything like that....too bad because I LOVE figs....I found that out sometime last year. I racheled the heck out figs for a couple weeks. :D

It makes sense that if my body is seriously lacking...it might take some time to start regulating the bowels. The Dr. also told me he doesnt think I'm absorbing very well so that might be another problem.

Anyways, it seems like I'm taking alot. I started out with one capsule of each for like 3 days. The magnesium is 500 mg. and the vit. C is 1000 mg. I bumped it up to 2 capsules of each yesterday and then up to 3 capsules today.

So thats 3000 mg's of Vit C today...and still no loose stools!

Hum, Susie, I don't know if I'd take the dextrose from wheat...sounds iffy to me. :P

Yes, the PT guy is at HN and he told me yesterday that he's thinking of doing the hot stone treatments (I had mine at the place in Willow Glen)...he's going to see if HN will buy the stuff, lol.

Yeah....I'll probably end up going to HN if I ever get around to it. I think I wanna wait until I get through some LED's first. :)

I wanna wait until my head hurts less.

Oh yeah....I totally had a massage on my head when I was at the Dr.'s last week! It felt REALLY good! :D

What happened was that he said I have evidence of skull jamming (I have no idea exactly what that means  ). Its written on my paperwork too....."skull jamming".

Anyways, it was one of the last things he did...he said he was gonna "mash" on my head a little bit...but rather firmly...kind of like a tortuous massage. My Mom said "She'll probably like it...she loves massages." :P

Yeah....he did it real hard but I never complained. It did feel pretty good. :)

He said we'll probably have to do it again later.

So after he got done I asked him what he meant about my skull being jammed??

He was like "Oh....its just kinda smashed."

He asked if I'd ever had a head injury... if I fell on my head or got whacked in the head or something like that?

I told him when I was a baby my mom dropped me on my head and also when I was 15 I got hit by a car and smashed their windshield with my head.

He said it was likely when I got hit by a car...he said things just sort of get jammed when theres some kind of trauma to the head. I have no idea how he could tell my head got injured though??

He did feel my head with his hands but when I do this myself I cant tell there was a previous injury.

Anyways, he said when we're babies we get away from that because sutures havent fused yet and we just recover naturally. I guess this isnt the case when we're adults...so apparantly my head is "jammed" a little bit.

I'm still not quite sure what the heck it means but I'll take the head massage as many times as he wants to do it. :D

HOPE: I think that, in addition to the probiotics, something that may be improving my situation is that I have hope. I think that hope is highly under-rated. I believe that things will get better and I believe that the faith that many of you have (faith that you will get better) has pushed me in that direction and I want to again say Thank You.

Kat...I totally agree!!

Hope....you just gotta have it. :)

If I didnt have such an abundance of hope (and faith) I wouldn't be doing any of the things I'm doing right now. I would be a mess if I had no hope.

I fully believe that I'm gonna recover...I dont know exactly when.....but I know it will happen. :)

I have alot of faith and I just feel I was sent down this path for a reason....good things have come out if it and I think I'm a better person because of it. :)

Hope is definately alive in R-Ville ....I believe things will get better for all of us. B)

I have mold problems with all nuts and seeds....in the shell..out of the shelll....roasted or raw. I just cant eat any without reacting to the mold. :(

No need to apologize. I realize this is a very stressful time for everyone....your mom loves you so naturally she is upset to see you sick.

Its good that you're getting tested to see what your body needs. I know you feel like things are hopeless but they really arent. If this Dr. is the one your parents have decided on and you have no other choice...you can make the best of it.

You can discuss things with him. Tell him your concerns. You're the patient....you're paying him. Just try to be strong and talk to this guy so that you understand each other.

He must have some knowledge of mercury toxicity and its good that he wants a hair analysis. Its not a stupid test....it'll tell him things he needs to know. I guess at this point you dont have alot of options so try to work with this guy....be proactive and communicate everything to him.

Dont give up...there is still plenty of room for hope.

What is caprylic acid?

Its a natural remedy for yeast. I've never taken it.

Talitha dropped Seth on his head when he was 4 months old. <_<

Interesting about him figuring that out. I would think it would make a difference though, with toxins being trapped etc.

Dear Kat,

I agree that hope must be kept alive. Without it, we would all have killed ourselves already! That is what keeps me alive and kicking! :) Sometimes, even when things look very bleak, even the smallest amount of hope puts everything in perspective. As long as it exists, we can tough it out.

Congratulations on your decision to stop smoking! I wish my father would quit! He is literally a chimney with legs! I am glad I did not ever start! There are a lot of toxins in cigarettes.

I am glad the chlorella seems to be doing alright for you so far! That stuff either helps or hurts you. Some people just are not suited for it. Everyone's system is different. It can really do a number on some. I am happy to hear that chlorella is beneficial for you!

Dear covsooze,

I had a feeling I should have been more specific about the other tests. There is no need to apologize for asking a question! ;) I am more than happy to answer to the best of my ability. So is everyone else on this thread! Hair analysis is not always as accurate as a provoked urine test.

Basically, what happens is, the doctor gives you a chelator. You collect urine samples for 24 hours. Next, you have it sent to the lab. This is what the joke about the big orange jug is on here! I have not done either test yet.

My doctor was going to go with Doctor's Data. I do not know how accurate they are for hair samples. I have a hair sample, and it is $50. However, as Rachel pointed out, the doctor needs to know how to read and interpret them. That is just as essential to being properly treated and diagnosed with metal toxicity.

I know in the UK, health and dental care can be frustrating to deal with. I read their is a major shortage of dentists. More and more are going into private practice, leaving many British without affordable dental care. Some are even pulling their own bad teeth out after getting drunk! :o You would never expect people to be in such pain and so desperate!

Our healthcare system is not as good as it could be. Many people in the U.S. are without insurance, such as myself. We are much better off than a number of other countries, but there is a lot of room for improvement. Welfare pays for as little as possible, when you can get it. A large population of people needing treatment are denied Welfare. The worst part is, even those who have good healthcare are often denied claims for alternative practices, no matter how necessary.

Dear Rachel,

I hope the C is better soon. I have trouble with that off and on. It helps to eat a lot of fiber, but overdoing it makes bigger problems. Stomach cramps are never good! Meanwhile, I am sure you are excited about LED on Friday! We will miss you like crazy, but it is more important to us that you get well. So, I think we will handle being bored for a day!

It was interesting the doctor was talking about head injuries. I had a nasty hit when I was about nine. My best friend and brother were carrying me while we were playing around, and she dropped me. I had a terrible headache from that. I never was taken to the ER for it. Still, I wonder if I should get an MRI.

Dear tom,

I am surprised you never heard someone call it a wooha. Maybe it is a regional thing. A friend of mine calls boobs yabos! We always like to say that! It is much less embarrassing than saying the actual body part. That type of thing always is difficult for me.

Even if you just want a girlfriend, they will expect you to get tampons! Trust me on this! I would love to hear that story you were talking about! Too bad you cannot remember it at the moment.

Maybe it will come to you later. In case you forgot what you posted previously, it is what the guy buying tampons says to the one buying a Playboy.

I am glad you enjoyed my commentary on chocolate prison! It would definitely be cruel and unusual punishment to lock you in a cell with it, then have it in a safe! :( Oh, cruel fate! That would make me unhappy! If you want to see me in a bad mood, that would do it! Have you ever seen that bear that gets into the car in that commercial?

Dear Andrea,

It probably is difficult for T to drink all of that water. I am sure the boys will do alright. You just have to watch Seth closely. Since he is so young, being able to tell what is the matter is not always easy. The children will probably do fine after their treatment is completed. You only have so much money.

A 12 hour drive is a long way to go! There is no way you could do that in a day! It would be too exhausting! This dentist sounds worth it, though. Maybe you could drive up the day before, and stay in a motel? I am sure you could compare prices online and find a good one.

Dear Lisa,

I know a couple of people who used cyprilic acid for yeast. They said it worked well, and recommend it. I am willing to try it. I have a very bad case. Cyprilic acid and a bunch of other things were stated to be very helpful in eradicating yeast in a natural health magazine I read.

Do you and I have the same parents? It appears that we are sisters! My parents play mind games and do everything they can to get in my way of becoming well and happy. They refuse to listen, no matter what. I am tired of suffering for their carelessness!

I have felt like death lately as well. I am probably allergic to more foods now due to the Leaky-Gut. I worry I will end up not being able to tolerate anything! Trying to organize this rotation diet is driving me crazy! So far, I have had to start over so many times, I lost count after five! That was just today!

Dear Carla,

Thank you for the update on Bev and Susie Q! I appreciate it! I was worried. They are never gone from this thread. It seems like they have been gone forever! I need to go visit them on the Tickle Me Thread.

I have a bad habit of supressing my feelings. Then, I explode later. Everything comes out at once that I am angry or sad about. My grandfather is like this, too. I know it is unhealthy, but do not know how to fix it. I hate appearing vulnerable.

I have a question about Lyme. Can your flares be cyclical? I know herxes are. You have said that before. It seems that around the time my period usually was is when the nausea and stomach issues dramatically increase again. I would appreciate other Lymies' opinions as well.

Dear Patti,

Have you had any bites on the house, yet? Or are you having open houses right now? There is no way my parents could sell this place right now. Our property needs way too many improvements. The inside is a mess, too.

Dear Mia,

Ignore that idiot nurse. Most of them are evil! I have had some old battle axes. My step-grandmother used to be a nurse. All of them are sadistic! Even my doctor says so! If you need to cry, do so!

I have that little perky voice, too. It says "But you will win the lottery, and buy all kinds of wonderful things that you deserve and be happy!" :) The sadness is normally gone after a day or two.

Profound depression does set in, but the optimistic voice returns. Still, expressing the sadness is essential to releasing the negative energy.

Dear Donna,

I hope that D is better. Cookies might be the culprit. There are times I have eaten six in a day! Saying no is not easy. Plus, you know how they call you!

I think I will start rebounding. Did you say it is only for five minutes? I thought I would do it once a day for five minutes to start, and then the second week add another five minute segment later in the day. What do you think? I know you had previously posted someone saying you needed to do as much as 40 minutes a day.

Dear Christine,

I have not gotten testing done for metals yet. I want to, though. I think I probably have at least Aluminum and Mercury. Although I have not had any fillings that are metal, my mother had them already when she was pregnant with me, and I had vaccines with thimersol and I eat a lot of fish.

I also have a habit of cooking in those foil bags (I have cut down on it, but sometimes it is the only option I have), and I used to drink soda from cans when I was younger.

Sincerely,

Jin

Still have to order the DMSA. I am so weak.

Hi Lisa,

I don't get it. If your dad paid for the DMSA, why do you have to order it  ? Sounds like you can stall on that one by not ordering it! In the meanwhile, as Rachel suggested, try to be strong with your doctor and tell him you do not want to take it right now. Maybe it will be awhile before you are ready to take it even with your amalgams out. I think your body will be too sensitive even right after your amalgam removal to take DMSA for a long time.

I once had a doctor claim that medical studies showed blah, blah, blah. I asked her for that study, and she didn't have it. You could obviously tell that she was a bit taken aback by that one! If you doctor wants you to take something you don't feel comfortable with, demand the medical research on it. It's your right to read about what they are claiming will work.

I remember when all my food used to come out the same way it went in. That's when I was first diagnosed with gluten intolerance by my chiropractor 8 years ago. I only cut down on the gluten, not completely avoid it like I do now  .

I'm sorry you're feel so horrible. I was once prescribed caprylic acid, but not for yeast. It can work on other pathogens as well. Have you traveled much to Mexico? You might pick up some parasites and pathogens there. I think between traveling to Thailand and Mexico, I picked up something last year. I hope your doctor will test you for parasites and pathogens. Ask him about it. There are only a couple of good labs in the country that test for EVERYTHING - Genova labs and Diagnos-Techs lab. I finally had to get tested by Diagnos-Techs lab because our local hospital didn't test for a lot of bugs they did test for. I *only* had an overgrowth of bad bacteria, and I was amazed how horrible it made me feel. I would writhe in pain on the floor for half an hour after going the bathroom.

I agree with Rachel that nuts and seeds can be problematic for people with really sensitive guts. I had to avoid them last year when I was at my worst. I ate a lot of meat and vegetables, and stayed away from soy, dairy, corn, nuts, seeds, quinoa, and, of course, gluten. Can you eat egg whites? When people react to eggs, it's usually the yolks they are sensitive to. Maybe the egg whites will help you get some protein? I always buy organic eggs. You may also have to avoid any kind of seeds and skins in fruits and vegetables. I've heard really sensitive people need to strain those out of their food after cooking it.

The hair analysis sounds like a good idea if they are using it to figure out your mineral deficiencies. It will give them some information, and you will know if you are excreting mercury or not.

Try to take one day at a time and look for your little victories. Can you keep a journal to track your progress? Keeping track of all your test results can help you feel that you are in control of your healing too. I often pick up things from the test results that the doctors miss and ask them questions about it.

With the cost of gas and staying at a hotel, not to mention Mitch having to take time off work, it wouldn't be worth it. The doctor here would be about $1400 more when all is said and done unless I don't need as many crowns as I'm thinking I will. I'll know more next month.......I'm definately getting this root canal pulled then.

Sorry to hear you've had a not so good day. I do hope you can start getting some testing done soon. You need to make a dash for a test when the parents are agreeable.....before they change their mind again (that is when they are agreeable again).

NoGluGirl Contributor

Dear Claire,

I would not be surprised if I have Bacterial Dysbiosis. I am taking probiotics, but Carla had it as well, despite taking so many! I have been getting pain in my colon lately. Maybe it is not the corn. I also wonder if my wisdom teeth coming in have been adding to my nausea and stomach pain. Also, I will keep Genova and Diagnos-Techs in mind.

Dear Andrea,

That is a lot of money! I do not know many people who could afford that. Why does everything have to be so expensive? What is the deal? Even people with insurance cannot afford much now! The cost of everything is so high!

I am not sure what is going on with my body. Bacterial Dysbiosis is a good possibility. Lyme I know is bad about causing that. I am just tired of suffering. I have a ton of gas that hurts. The nausea is miserable, too!

Sincerely,

Jin

Lisa, I think nuts and seeds are very difficult to digest. Moms are told not to give children nut and seed products until they are at least 3 years old. I'm worried that eating them will irritate your poor tender digestive tract even further.

Have you tried eating baby food? Perhaps one of the ultra-allergenic baby formulas? What was the one TCA used for little Megan--anyone remember? It was the only thing the baby could tolerate besides for breastmilk, but now she's eating real food!

I hope you feel better soon.

Well I lied when I said I was only taking 500mg of magnesium, lol. I guess I hadn't figured it out since Anna adjusted some of my dosages 3 weeks ago...I'm taking 1 gram of magnesium and 2.5 grams of vitamin C...gee, wonder why I have diarrhea, lol.

CHLORELLA: I've been taking the Chlorella for a couple days without any problems so far. I didn't see any in liquid form that didn't have grasses in addition to the chlorella, so I just went with the capsules. It'll have to do for now.

Ah hope, yes, I often wonder if that isn't why so many people DON'T recover...they have lost hope. It is powerful indeed!

Congratulations on being so prepared for your quit date...sounds like it might go much more smoothly that one would have thought.

Re the chlorella...which brand did you buy?

I think it's worse that I have to buy Adam's Preparation H wipes ... at least when he buys tampons they know they're not for him!

Yes, I'd start with just a little...your plan sounds good. Not only just for the lymph thing, but when I first bought mine I bought it strictly for fitness (didn't know I needed to care about lymph stuff back then)...I had to let my feet adjust to it. Even with shoes on, my feet needed a bit of adjustment to it. That part didn't take long, just a couple of weeks. Now I jump on it barefooted.

Yes, Lyme typically flares cyclically. Mine didn't, but that is characteristic of Lyme.

However, if it always coincides with your cycle, it could be hormonal.

Re the chlorella...which brand did you buy?

Hi Donna,

To be honest, I went with the easiest, cheapest kind that I could find. That way, if I got the wrong stuff, it'd be no great loss (of $$).

I got the Henry's brand. I didn't have time to go to Whole Foods that day.

Here's what the bottle says:

Green Chlorella - (Chlorella pyrenoidosa) ... 400mg

Other ingredients: Capsule (vegetable source), cellulose, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate.

Contains no sugar, ... corn, soy, yeast, wheat, grain, gluten, egg, or milk products.

Sounded okay for now. I'll probably get the good stuff soon, but this is what I have right now.

The guy I dated a couple years back had no problem going to the store and getting me some tampons. We had only been dating a very short time and he already knew exactly what kind to get. I dont think I ever met a guy so willing to go to the store alone just to buy tampons.

Okay, so we have a new meaning for the term "head jamming".

Unsure whether it's even warranted, but I'm a little embarrassed to have to ask "what's the OLD meaning?"

<imagines the conversation 'heading' into dangerous territory>

Hum, you know, I never had any of my boyfriends, and not even my husband buy me tampons or other feminine products, lol. Am I weird?

 well, not because of *this*!! :P

I've only been asked a handful of times, and only jokingly displayed any reluctance. So for the non-married, I'd think it not particularly common.

Thank you all for your advice and the dermatitis herpetiformis article. The latter made me realise I had stopped taking my antihistamine, which I will restart today. The Dapsone has cleared the rash entirely but I still get quite a bit itching, absolutely nothing to see though. I know its notoriously hard to clear and its still relatively early days for me.  The iodine issue is very interesting. I do eat quite a bit of salt because I have Addison's disease and sodium retention is an issue. I also have autoimmune hypothyroidism, not sure how a low iodine diet would play into that? Because of my Addison's I am totally steroid dependent, I take steroids 4 x daily and cannot mount any defence against inflammation. I need to increase my meds for that. Now that I know what is wrong I can do just that if Im having a bad day. Life is very sweet, just so damn complicated sometimes! Hey ho, onwards. Thank you again for your advice.

So, essentially all of the nutrition in the food we eat is absorbed through the villous lining of the small bowel. This is the section of the intestinal track that is damaged by celiac disease. This villous lining is composed of billions of finger-like projections that create a huge amount of surface area for absorbing nutrients. For the celiac person, when gluten is consumed, it triggers an autoimmune reaction in this area which, of course, generates inflammation. The antibodies connected with this inflammation is what the celiac blood tests are designed to detect but this inflammation, over time, wears down the finger-like projections of the villous lining. Of course, when this proceeds for an extended period of time, greatly reduces the absorption efficiency of the villous lining and often results in many and various nutrient deficiency-related health issues. Classic examples would be osteoporosis and iron deficiency. But there are many more. Low D3 levels is a well-known celiac-caused nutritional deficiency. So is low B12. All the B vitamins in fact. Magnesium, zinc, etc.  Celiac disease can also cause liver inflammation. You mention elevated ALP levels. Elevated liver enzymes over a period of 13 years was what led to my celiac diagnosis. Within three months of going gluten free my liver enzymes normalized. I had elevated AST and ALT. The development of sensitivities to other food proteins is very common in the celiac population. Most common cross reactive foods are dairy and oats but eggs, soy and corn are also relatively common offenders. Lactose intolerance is also common in the celiac population because of damage to the SB lining.  Eggs when they are scrambled or fried give me a gut ache. But when I poach them, they do not. The steam and heat of poaching causes a hydrolysis process that alters the protein in the egg. They don't bother me in baked goods either so I assume the same process is at work. I bought a plastic poacher on Amazon to make poaching very easy. All this to say that many of the issues you describe could be caused by celiac disease.

thank you so much for your detailed and extremely helpful reply!! I can say with absolute certainty that the less gluten containing products I've eaten over the past several years, the better I've felt.   I wasn't avoiding gluten, I was avoiding refined grains (and most processed foods) as well as anything that made me feel bad when I ate it. It's the same reason I gave up dairy and eggs- they make me feel ill.  I do have a bit of a sugar addiction lol so a lot of times I wasn't sure if it was the refined grains that I was eating - or the sugar. So from time to time I might have a cookie or something but I've learned how to make wonderful cookies and golden brownies with BEANS!! and no refined sugar - I use date paste instead. Pizza made me so ill- but I thought it was probably the cheese. I gave up pizza and haven't missed it. the one time I tried a slice I felt so bad I knew I'd never touch it again. I stopped eating wheat pasta at least 3 yrs ago- just didn't feel well after eating it. I tried chick pea pasta and a few others and discovered I like the brown rice pasta. I still don't eat a lot of pasta but it's nice for a change when I want something easy. TBH over the years I've wondered sometimes if I might be gluten intolerant but really believed it was not possible for me to have celiac disease. NOW I need to know for sure- because I'm in the middle of a long process of trying to find out why I have a high parathyroid level (NOT the thyroid- but rather the 4 glands that control the calcium balance in your body) I have had a hard time getting my vit D level up, my serum calcium has run on the low side of normal for many years... and now I am losing calcium from my bones and excreting it in my urine (some sort of renal calcium leak) Also have a high ALP since 2014. And now rapidly worsening bone density.  I still do not have a firm diagnosis. Could be secondary HPT (but secondary to what? we need to know) It could be early primary HPT. I am spilling calcium in my urine but is that caused by the high parathyroid hormone or is it the reason my PTH is high>? there are multiple feedback loops for this condition.    so I will keep eating the bread and some wheat germ that does not seem to bother me too much (it hasn't got enough gluten to use just wheat germ)    but I'm curious- if you don't have a strong reaction to a product- like me and wheat germ- does that mean it's ok to eat or is it still causing harm even if you don't have any obvious symptoms? I guess what you are saying about silent celiac makes it likely that you can have no symptoms and still have the harm... but geez! you'd think they'd come up with a way to test for this that didn't require you to consume something that makes you sick! I worry about the complications I've been reading about- different kinds of cancers etc. also wondering- are there degrees of celiac disease?  is there any correlation between symptoms and the amnt of damage to your intestines? I also need a firm diagnosis because I have an identical twin sister ... so if I have celiac, she has it too- or at least the genetic make up for having it. I did have a VERY major stress to my body in 2014-2016 time frame .. lost 50lbs in a short period of time and had severe symptoms from acute protracted withdrawal off an SSRI drug (that I'd been given an unethically high dose of, by a dr who has since lost his license)  Going off the drug was a good thing and in many ways my health improved dramatically- just losing 50lbs was helpful but I also went  off almost a dozen different medications, totally changed my diet and have been doing pretty well except for the past 3-4 yrs when the symptoms related to the parathyroid issue cropped up. It is likely that I had low vit D for some time and that caused me a lot of symptoms. The endo now tells me that low vit D can be caused by celiac disease so I need to know for sure! thank you for all that great and useful information!!!

Welcome, @catnapt! The most recent guidelines are the daily consumption of a minimum of 10g of gluten (about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) for a minimum of two weeks. But if possible stretching that out even more would enhance the chances of getting valid test results. These guidelines are for those who have been eating gluten free for a significant amount of time. It's called the "gluten challenge".  Yes, you can develop celiac disease at any stage of life. There is a genetic component but also a stress trigger that is needed to activate the celiac genes. About 30-40% of the general population possesses the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% of the general population actually develop celiac disease. For most with the potential, the triggering stress event doesn't happen. It can be many things but often it is a viral infection. Having said that, it is also the case that many, many people who eventually are diagnosed with celiac disease probably experienced the actual onset years before. Many celiacs are of the "silent" type, meaning that symptoms are largely missing or very minor and get overlooked until damage to the small bowel lining becomes advanced or they develop iron deficiency anemia or some other medical problem associated with celiac disease. Many, many are never diagnosed or are diagnosed later in life because they did not experience classic symptoms. And many physicians are only looking for classic symptoms. We now know that there are over 200 symptoms/medical problems associated with celiac disease but many docs are only looking for things like boating, gas, diarrhea. I certainly understand your concerns about not wanting to damage your body by taking on a gluten challenge. Your other option is to totally commit to gluten free eating and see if your symptoms improve. It can take two years or more for complete healing of the small bowel lining once going gluten free but usually people experience significant improvement well before then. If their is significant improvement in your symptoms when going seriously gluten free, then you likely have your answer. You would either have celiac disease or NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity).

after several years of issues with a para-gland issue, my endo has decided it's a good idea for me to be tested for celiac disease. I am 70 yrs old and stunned to learn that you can get celiac this late in life. I have just gradually stopped eating most foods that contain gluten over the past several years- they just make me feel ill- although I attributed it to other things like bread spiking blood sugar- or to the things I ate *with* the bread or crackers etc   I went to a party in Nov and ate a LOT of a vegan roast made with vital wheat gluten- as well as stuffing, rolls and pie crust... and OMG I was so sick! the pain, the bloating, the gas, the nausea... I didn't think it would ever end (but it did) and I was ready to go the ER but it finally subsided.   I mentioned this to my endo and now she wants me to be tested for celiac after 2 weeks of being on gluten foods. She has kind of flip flopped on how much gluten I should eat, telling me that if the symptoms are severe I can stop. I am eating 2-3 thin slices of bread per day (or english muffins) and wow- it does make me feel awful. But not as bad as when I ate that massive amnt of vital wheat gluten. so I will continue on if I have to... but what bothers me is - if it IS celiac, it seems stupid for lack of a better word, to intentionally cause more damage to my body... but I am also worried, on the other hand, that this is not a long enough challenge to make the blood work results valid.   can you give me any insight into this please?   thank you
