I have been gluten-free since diagnosed as coeliac in July 2004. One year on a follow up gastroscopy showed only partial healing. I continue to have D. Sometimes I am fine for up to a month or so and then for no reason I can fathom I am bad again. Specialist says he would have said I have IBS except that gatroscopy still shows coeliac damage. Apparently until I am healed I am not able to properly digest dairy, fruit and some vegetables which also trigger D. Can someone advise me on which of these could be safe to eat, as I just can't see any pattern.

I have my own toaster and am very careful with cross contamination. Can someone please explain about shampoo, moisturiser, etc - I don't have skin problems so are they still a concern? Also, twice in the last month I ate out for lunch and was told the food was gluten free but after 2 hours had severe bouts of vomiting that were quite frightening. Would this be gluten contamination?

Also, is white vinegar gluten-free? And what about Sushi - I have heard the seaweed used to roll the rice has wheat - is this so does anybody know? I am in New Zealand so things might be different here. Thank you for your help.

Hi Claris and tann- You have come to a great place. People here are so helpful and you can find out so much.

I'm sorry to hear you are only showing partial healing. Many doctos say that you are supposed to heal within 6 months of being on the diet, but I don't think that's true. I think for some of us it takes a lot longer. I felt great for about the first two months on the diet, then worse for quite awhile. I am only now recently starting to feel better.

As far as body products, hair etc. it's really important as with shampoo and conditioner, you'd be surprised how much gets in your mouth. With other products, you get them on your hands and you'd be surprised how many times you put your hands near your mouth. I thought it sounded "extreme" at first too, but then I got sick from shower gel!

I vomit when I get glutened (some people do/some don't) so your experience in the restaurant could have been gluten. :(

White vinegar- if distilled- is gluten free. Distillation takes the gluten out of products like vinegar and alcohol. That said, some people still have problems with it. I do. I'm fine with apple cider vinegar and potato vodka, but when I eat something with white vinegar or a grain based alcohol like gin, I get sick.

You might have other food intolerances too. Many people here are intolerant to dairy, soy, corn and a lot of other things. It's a great board, and I'm sure you'll get some good advice! Beverly

      The Lindt (Lindor) dairy-free oat milk truffles are definitely gluten-free, and (last time I checked) so are the white chocolate truffles and the mint chocolate truffles.

      Yarrow Pom works really well with the skin issues I found out.I had to stop so my doterra because dealing with medical celiac circus. I had shingles in Feb 2023. Prayers for healing

      More great tips, and a good excuse to shop at M&S and also buy more iced buns!   I wish we had an ASDA near us, as the few times we've been to one their gluten-free pasta range seemed very reasonably priced compared to other shops.  Thanks so much, @Russ H.
