Tanya,

Loved the 'hair bow story' what a hoot.

So glad she's doing better. So enjoyed the pictures of the kids, and you too.

I love the picture of them all dressed up; they are so cute!

Actually the cath is the 10th, and so far it is still planned. How are things with all of you. Sent an e-mail last week. Megan's having a good week and starting to take tiny little sips of juice! Improvements all the time! Thankfully, I don't think she's swallowed any more hairbows, though! :P

just updated caring bridge......

Just wanted to let everyone know that Megan's heart cath has been postponed until 11/29. They called to change it because of a problem with the cath lab. She will be 3rd case that day, so we don't have to be there until 11 and probably won't start until around 1. I think God needed just a little more time to open up the artery so that a stent won't be needed! Time will tell, but I know that He has a plan in it. Please pray that things go smoothly!

Megan has had a good week and is growing so much. She is really getting upset if I don't give her some of whatever Cole has to eat or drink. She is tasting almost everything I give her now and is drinking tiny amounts. It's so exciting to see the progress.

Hope you all have a great week! Hugs!

Tanya,

Thanks for letting us know about the procedure being postponed. I will choose to believe that it's to give the artery a chance to open!

That's so great that she's tasting and drinking :D

Dear TCA,

We are so glad Meg is doing so well! :) She and her brother look like little dolls in their Halloween costumes! It is so encouraging to know that "our baby" as everyone on the thread calls her is tasting! I hope the cath lab goes well. Thank you so much for the pic and update! Keep in touch!

Sincerely,

TCA- Yeah...I'm about 55 pages late into this thread but I have been meaning to read it forever. I just skimmed through (I couldn't go all the way back..... kind of like the OMG thread...) but i just wanted to say, as a fellow gagger and retcher that I am SO glad that she is doing better and is tasting foods (even if she's eating a rainbow ribbon :P ). I cannot begin to imagine what you have been through and how frightening it must have been. You are all so strong.

Many prayers and hugs to you, Megan, Cole and your family. I look forward to hearing more good news! Hugs, Beverly

Thanks for checking in guys. I've been REALLY SICK with a terrible sinus infection. Dr. said today it may take 20-30 days of antibiotics to really knock it out. I haven't been on here in a couple weeks because of it and Thanksgiving. I was just logging in to post my latest from caring bridge. Thanks for the love and concern from you all! I hope all of you are doing well!

Hugs, Tanya

**********************************

Even though I had to take Megan in for an ear infection on Sat., it looks like things are still a go for the heart cath on Wed. (11/29). We all have been sick and I went back for the 3rd time today for the sinus infection that just won't quit, otherwise known as chronic. Hopefully we'll all be up to full speed by Wed., or at least half speed.

We all had a great Thanksgiving with both sides of the family and Megan stole the show with everyone. She is giving kisses to everyone and leaving a big slober trail. She is able to stand now, but fusses if she has to for too long. Her latest game is getting into the cabinets and finding the ziplock bags and distributing them throughout the house from her walker. It really is amazing what she can get into from that thing. Today she also managed to get the aluminum foil out and unravel about 5 feet. She was NOT happy when I took it away.

The plan for Wed. is to attempt to widen her pulmonary arteries with a balloon. If they aren't able to do this, they will put in a stent. I don't like to think about her getting a stent so young, but I will leave it to God to figure out what is needed. If used, the stent will be adjustable in size, so it can be enlarged via heart cath as she grows. If things go as expected, it will be an overnight stay in the hospital.

We will keep the site updated as things progress on Wed. Please check in. We have to be there at 11 and it's planned to start around 1. If she gets sick again, it will be postponed, but for now she's doing pretty good.

Thanks so much for the prayers that have carried her safely thus far. Please continue them this week!!!! Also pray for Dr. Thomas Doyle, the cardiologist doing the procedure. We need God to move his hands perfectly and give him wisdom in his decisions! He is a man of faith, so I know he will appreciate your prayers. I know God holds our precious baby girl in his arms and will carry her safely through.

Love you all.

What you’re describing really does not read like typical IBS-D. The dramatic, rapid normalization of stool frequency and form after removing wheat, along with improved tolerance of legumes and plant foods, is a classic pattern seen in gluten-driven disease rather than functional IBS. IBS usually worsens with fiber and beans, not improves. The fact that you carry HLA-DQ2.2 means celiac disease is absolutely possible, even if it’s less common than DQ2.5, and many people with DQ2.2 present later and are under-diagnosed. Your hesitation to reintroduce gluten is completely understandable — quality of life matters — and many people in your position choose to remain strictly gluten-free and treat it as medically necessary even without formal biopsy confirmation. If and when you’re ready, a physician can help you weigh options like limited gluten challenge, serology history, or documentation as “probable celiac.” What’s clear is that this wasn’t just random IBS — you identified the trigger, and your body has been very consistent in its response.

oh that's interesting... it's hard to say for sure but it has *seemed* like oats might be causing me some vague issues in the past few months. It's odd that I never really connect specific symptoms to foods, it's more of an all over feeling of unwellness after  eating them.  If it happens a few times after eating the same foods- I cut back or avoid them. for this reason I avoid dairy and eggs.  So far this has worked well for me.  oh, I have some of Bob's Red Mill Mighty Tasty Hot cereal and I love it! it's hard to find but I will be looking for more.  for the next few weeks I'm going to be concentrating on whole fresh fruits and veggies and beans and nuts and seeds. I'll have to find out if grains are truly necessary in our diet. I buy brown rice pasta but only eat that maybe once a month at most. Never liked quinoa. And all the other exotic sounding grains seem to be time consuming to prepare. Something to look at later. I love beans and to me they provide the heft and calories that make me feel full for a lot longer than a big bowl of broccoli or other veggies. I can't even tolerate the plant milks right now.  I have reached out to the endo for guidance regarding calcium intake - she wants me to consume 1000mgs from food daily and I'm not able to get to more than 600mgs right now.  not supposed to use a supplement until after my next round of testing for hyperparathyroidism.   thanks again- you seem to know quite a bit about celiac.

Welcome to the celiac.com community, @SilkieFairy! You could also have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) as opposed to celiac disease. They share many of the same symptoms, especially the GI ones. There is no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out.
    • trents
Under the circumstances, your decision to have the testing done on day 14 sounds very reasonable. But I think by now you know for certain that you either have celiac disease or NCGS and either way you absolutely need to eliminate gluten from your diet. I don't think you have to have an official diagnosis of celiac disease to leverage gluten free service in hospitals or institutional care and I'm guessing your physician would be willing to grant you a diagnosis of gluten sensitivity (NCGS) even if your celiac testing comes up negative. Also, you need to be aware that oats (even gluten free oats) is a common cross reactor in the celiac community. Oat protein (avenin) is similar to gluten. You might want to look at some other gluten free hot  breakfast cereal alternatives.
