Taco Bell?

Kids wanted Taco Bell yesterday and so I stopped there for lunch. Not sure I made the best choices for me though. The manager dragged (drug?) several boxes up front so I could read ingredients before ordering. I ended up with the chicken fiesta bowl without chicken or sauce, but I did eat the red tortilla strips, which from the website, is what did it to me. And I took a couple bites of little dudes taco (hard shell) without thinking......pretty sure the seasonings in the beef are not good for me either.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone eats at Taco Bell regularly and can give me some tips on ordering there. I get tired of making the kids go to McD's when we are out so i can get a milkshake. I wish more fast food places had baked potatoes.....

Anyway...any tips for Taco Bell, or am I just stuck drinking a soda while the boys eat???? Thanks!!

The meat has wheat in it.

I don't eat there, too much risk. I think the tostadas are considered okay.

taco bell is nesty. i never eat their unless i have to with my family. so never eat at taco bell at all in Pa.

I miss Taco Bell... but they are so completely uncooperative with the gluten intolerant community that even if they did start posting an accurate gluten-free menu that actually had some real choices, I'd probably still boycott them on principle.

i lived on their tostadas while pregnant :P i usually added sour cream and tomato too...oh, and the rice is fine too...that comes with cheese and chives on it :D and all the hot sauces are ok...those are about the only "main" dishes that are ok from what i read...definitely no meat!

So the beef is probably what did me in......ugh.....I have been so good for so long and 2 little bites.....yuck :( A few more days I guess and then I will be abck to normal hopefully. I hate this feeling....to think I lived with it for so long, not knowing.

I think from now on I will just get the rice with cheese, tomato and lettuce. It's good to know the rice is ok. We don't go there often, but I need to have one thing just in case..... Thanks!!!

They have a list on thier website. The rice wasn't gluten free for a while 2002-2004 and is again now.

The only things listed as completely gluten-free are the tostada and the pintos and cheese and the rice. At the bottom is a paragraph about how to order the bowls gluten-free.

I had the pintos and cheese the other day after gum scaling at the dentist. They were pretty yummy.

Ouch!--After that, you certainly deserved a treat :D

just to warn, at the bottom of the taco bell link it says that the list is current as of march 1, 2005 so the list is over a year old! might not be accurate

I eat at Taco Bell all the time. The meat sauce has oats (!), how weird, huh? I always get the tostada, and the zesty chicken bowl without red strips or sauce. I have them add sour cream, although you may want to double check on gluten free status 1-800-tacobell. I have called before and they should be able to tell you all of the ingredients of everything, including allergens (I forgot to ask about sour cream, but I've never had a reaction). There are other options at the bottom of their menu.

Bottom line to me is that if you eat anywhere that serves gluten then you always have a chance of getting glutened but some places are better than others. At these fast food places they hire people who could care less and know nothing about the special diets.

We just had TB this evening. My daughter had "plain" tostadas with just cheese. No sauce, no meat, no nothing but cheese.

I get a 7 layer burrito plus steak in a bowl instead of a wrap. They laugh at me, but it's good! I have a friend (more like a sister) who is a manager there and she checked all of the ingredients. I wish TB would have listed the ingredients individually rather than just the completed menu items. I could build all sorts of cool stuff. SHe also told me I could have the hard shells, so I sometimes get a hard taco with refried beans instead of meat.

My husband always gets the Southwest Steak Bowl without the Jalapeno sauce & an order of pintos & cheese. He loves it & has had no problems with it.

elainegl Newbie

According to :

Open Original Shared Link

only the Steak bowl is listed as not containing wheat. So...

1) Do you think the Zesty Chicken Bowl only contains wheat because of those red strips?

2) Do we assume the jalapeno sauce doesn't contain wheat since the website doesn't specify it as the steak bowl without dressing?

BTW, the site seems to have been updated 7/7/06. The Taco and Taco Supreme supposedly don't contain wheat...I guess they contain oats though? The Tostatda, Pintos and Cheese, and Mexican Rice are still Wheat Free. I think I'll send Taco Bell and email and see what's up...

elainegl Newbie

I seem to be a moron!! This is my second ridiculous post today. I should quit posting....

Anyway, for some reason I missed the whole Gluten column, where of course there is a check by Taco and Taco Supreme (DARN!).

Also, down at the bottom, it says:

Suggestions for Wheat and Gluten Sensitive Individuals

- Tostada

- Fiesta Taco Salad (order Chicken instead of Beef; order without the shell and without the Red Strips)

- Express Taco Salad (order Chicken instead of Beef)

- Zesty Chicken BORDER BOWL® (order without the Zesty Dressing and without the Red Strips)

- Southwest Steak Bowl (order without the Creamy Jalapeno Sauce)

So all my questions are answered. It was still updated 7/7/06 though!! Sorry for all the posts....

Tostados are listed as gluten-free on the website but they were removed from the menu where I live. However, I called and talked to the manager and he said he could make me some because the tostado shells are used in the crunch wrap, so they are still around. I have always loved Taco Bell and am so excited to be able to eat something there.

My son 17yo was applying for a job at Taco Bell, so I thought I'd order some drinks for us while waiting. My youngest son 7yo, and myself have Celiac Disease. All we ordered were Mt.Dew fountian drinks. I had a Horrible stomach cramps (haven't had in quite a while!) about 15 min after drinking them. Then my 7yo. Doubled over and was laying on the floor with pain. What in the world could have been gluten in the fontian drink, cup itself at TacoBell?

I take both Benfotiamine and TTFD.   You might want to start with the Benfotiamine for a few days and then add in the TTFD.   You can look for NeuroMag (Magnesium Threonate).  A magnesium glycinate is fine, too.  Doctor's Best is a good brand.  Don't take more than 300mg total per day of magnesium or it may have a laxative effect.   Be sure to take the B Complex.  The Benfotiamine and TTFD will need the other B vitamins.

Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine has 100MG of Ben and 25 of Thia..... Do you think this is the one I should take or Objective Nutrients Thiamax (TTFD) which has 100MG Thiamine. How much magnesium should I look for? I take the womens 50+ multivitamin since consumerlabs stated and tested that it has the right amount of vitamins and not too much for men and doesn't have BHT which has shown to cause liver cancer in animals. I was never big with multivitamins as well as doctors I just read when I was first going gluten free to take a multi but I think I will stop them and work on trying the super B Thia and Ben, Mag.

Hi all I’ve been celiac for 4 years now, I’ve done pretty well to avoid it thus far. Last night I took the wrong pizza out of the freezer and ate the whole lot!! The non gluten and gluten pizza boxes are both very similar.   2 hours later I was throwing up violently on my hands and knees over the loo.  .horrendous stomach pains,  My hair was wet from sweat every part of my body was wet. What an awful experience, just had a bad headache today  fortunately.    Is their any products/pills anyone takes if they have realised they have just been glutened to make the symptoms a little less worse.  thanks

Yes, do take your B Complex with Benfotiamine or Thiamax.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins in the B Complex to make energy and enzymes, so best to take them together earlier in your day.  Taking them too close to bedtime can keep you too energetic to go to sleep.   The Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine is Benfotiamine and Thiamine Hydrochloride, another form of thiamine the body likes.  The Thiamine HCl just helps the Benfotiamine work better.   Read the label for how many milligrams are in them.  The Mega Benfotiamine is 250 mgs.  Another Benfothiamine has 100 mgs.  You might want to start with the 100 mg.    I like to take Thiamax in the morning with a B Complex at breakfast.  I take the Benfotiamine with another meal.  You can take your multivitamin with Benfotiamine at lunch.   Add a magnesium supplement, too.  Thiamine needs magnesium to make some important enzymes.  Life Extension makes Neuro-Mag, Magnesium Threonate, which is really beneficial.  (Don't take Magnesium Oxide.  It's not absorbed well, instead it pulls water into the digestive tract and is used to relieve constipation.)  I'm not a big fan of multivitamins because they don't always dissolve well in our intestines, and give people a false sense of security.  (There's videos on how to test how well your multivitamin dissolves.).  Multivitamins don't prevent deficiencies and aren't strong enough to correct deficiencies.   I'm happy you are trying Thiamax and Benfotiamine!  Keep us posted on your progress!  I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

I looked further into Thiamax Vitamin B1 by objective nutrients and read all the great reviews. I think I will give this a try. I noticed only possible side affect is possibly the first week so body adjusts. Life Extensions carries Benfotiamine with Thiamine and the mega one you mentioned. Not sure if both in one is better or seperate. some reviews state a laxative affect as side affect. SHould I take with my super B complex or just these 2 and multivitamin? I will do further research but I appreciate the wonderful explanation you provided on Thiamine.
