Seizures In My Infant Nephew :(

My sweet little nephew Kyle has been having seizures for the last month. Only upper body and its a shaking kind (cluster like). He fell on his head about a month and a half ago. My sister turned for a second and he rolled off a changing table. He started having seizures about a couple days later. They can get him in september 7th and 8th for testing (eeg (4 hour one) and a mri).

She mentioned recently how he has picked up on seizures, I asked her if she started feeding him solids and she said a couple of weeks ago she did with the cereals. I probed more into it and found out his seizures have become worse over the last couple of weeks into one at least every day. I mentioned to her about celiac disease and to get him tested. His neurologist he saw today is going to put him on a trial medication pyridioxine.

I read up on it some and found out its a b6 deficiency medication and under related conditions it listed celiac disease among many others. I was wondering if anyone or their kids have been on this for this reason? Did you go off it eventually or was it a lifetime thing? Im wondering if its celiac related if the diet would help? Also it probably is related to the fall and Im wondering if gluten is just exacerbating it.

Thanks for any responses, I know its really rare but I thought I would try :)

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
