well now that IS true - southern France is on the med. So, Bev is perhaps Southern French. My French ancestors, surname of Michel, were Huguenots - crazy French protestants, right? I"ll have to research more. Have always had a curious vigilante streak adn a strong sense of justice....did I tell y'all that my great-great-great- and maybe one more great uncles were the Garrett Brothers (for our friend across the pond, Sheriff Pat Garrett hunted down and killed Billy the Kidd, famous Wild West outlaw). :D

Wow- now that's cool!

GONE mad?? Jess I think we were mad to begin with............;)
That was clear from page 1 and it's ALL Richard's fault!

Black Irish is HOT. ;) And bev, you are the hottest one on here. Also the coloring of Michael Douglas's wife, what's-her name, oh yeah, CAtherine Zeta Jones.....although she is Welsh and would flog me.

It's definitely interesting. I first heard about it in The Secret of Roan Inish (if you haven't seen this movie, it's SO beautiful!) The Black Irish are supposed to not only be dark in color, but have dark personalities  And Lord knows, I have a DARK side. CZJ is gorgeous. Susie- I'm blushing at your complliment

Now go watch The Secret of Roan Inish. I want to be a selkie! :D

oh my gosh, I have seen that movie.....it was wonderful. Mysterious and quiet and beautiful and haunting. I can't remember what a selkie was, though.

what am I doing here? ugh, dreading going to work today and procrastinating. I was never given my schedule for this week, assumed I was going in at 11 or 12 today, so I called them last night, she tells me 9:30 a.m. BAH!!! "the hell you say!" I almost blurted out, laughing. Not busting my arse to get in there.

I need a job like Richard's, where you can play on the computer for 9 months of the year.................I seriously can't stand on my feet on concrete for 8 hours a day......

Hmm. I may be a "Black Irish" as well. Dark brown hair, brown eyes, white white white, but turn a darker shade of pale in summer. AND, my maiden name was Farrell. (No relation to Colin...that I'm aware of, so don't ask for intros.) It used to be O'Farrell but was dropped a few generations ago upon arriving in Nova Scotia. Too ethnic.

Don't ask me how I got two little blue-grey eyed blondies. Recessive genes are weird. Or my 1 dark hair/dark eyes gene wasn't enough to overpower the genes from my mom or my husband's whole family.

well darn it Linda, I WAS going to ask you for a date with Colin! :P

Er, yes...thankyou Susie...my American history is sketchy...but I am fascinated by everyones heritage.

Been thinking about trying to trace my family tree .

I quizzed my Mum today

She said her Paternal Grandmother was French (Northern France) and Paternal Grandfather was German (Hamburg)

Apparently my Grandad's original surname was' Schmidt', but had to change it to 'Smith' living in England during WWII!!

No info on her Mothers side as she left when she was a baby <_<

My Dad's Scottish/English

Hmmmm a mixed bag indeed!!! - I am a mongrel!!

GONE mad?? Jess I think we were mad to begin with............;)
You don't have to be mad to come here, but it does help

CAtherine Zeta Jones....

I think Terry (hubby) would like me to wake up as her - or see CZJ in a kilt...I'm not sure which he'd prefer

He's had a thing for her for a long time!!

Susie Q- A selkie is....Open Original Shared Link

Remember in Roan Inish one of their ancestors had a selkie for a wife?

OK- I NEED a good laugh and then I (kind of) had one. Gallows humor follows.

So I see my physiatrist today- the guy I see for my muscle/arthritis problem. Well, I tell him that my right armpit is tender so he checks it and says it might be a lymph node or a lump (right boob) and to make an appt ASAP with my OB/Gyn.

So... I call and this is the coversation:

"Hi, this is me. Dr. Doolittle (alias) did my baseline mammogram and today my physiatrist found a lump in my right armpit so he wants me to have it checked out ASAP."

"Your podiatrist?"

I burst out laughing and say" No, PHYSIATRIST, musculo-skeletal doctor"

"Oh dear God, I was going to ask you what your foot doctor was doing looking for lumps in your breast!"

Me still laughing...

"Yeah, uhm...that would be odd. He's a very special doctor   I was afarid you were going to think I said PSYCHIATRIST which would be REALLY suspect"

We both could NOT stop laughing for the rest of the conversation. It will henceforth be referred to as my "laughing lump" and yes, I will let you know what happens. My appt is at 9 am tomorrow (Susie- you'll still be snoozing!).

diane Lane IS hot, but that movie - - - it was a stinker! But Bev is right, Under the Tuscan Sun was fabulous - - I remember I went purposely alone to see it, so I could soak in eveyr minute.....I cried....wondered if I'd ever go to Italy again. *sniff*

BEV - - - oh dear Gawd that story was incredibly funny!! *snort* but yes, keep us posted. I had the same thing a few years ago, really tender armpit but with a noticeable lump - - - was just a big ol' giant cyst or something that went away on its own. (I did go to doctor and he could tell right away what it was.)

I am in a cranky pisser of a mood, wonder WHEN this will pass. Dang, R's best friend came into work today, adn we chatted about that..............holy cow, will I EVER be done with this???????????:huh:

Nikki, we're ALL mongrels!

the girls are staring, they do not like it when mommy's gone all day. Must see what they need.

You need battery operated tassels then! Ironically, I tried to google them, but all the sites that came up were in the UK.

Nikki- any comment? :P :P :P

The battery operated ones are in the UK? Or ALL the tassel sites?

What do they do over there anyway?

maybe you should contact VS with an idea for a new and improved (read: "high end") product - inserts with integrated self powered (with "Open Original Shared Link") tassels. The tassels would get their charge from the natural undulations of the female form :ph34r: in the summer one could swap out the tassels for mini fan blades, and - L :blink: K OUT! instant personal (very) temperature control!

I've probably just ruined any chance of profiting from this marvelous invention by revealing it in this public forum, oh well B)

That's the beauty of the system. (again, I'm divulging too many trade secrets here...) Since the power plant, if you will, is located in the falsie the oscillation of the falsie is what powers the system. So the bigger the falsie, the more wattage = more twirlage. However, I wouldn't go TOO big, as you might need to apply for a pilots license

Welcome to the celiac.com communiuty, @Matthias! Yes, we have been aware that this can be an issue with mushrooms but as long as they are rinsed thoroughly it should not be a problem since the mushrooms don't actually incorporate the gluten into their cellular structure. For the same reason, one needs to be careful when buying aged cheeses and products containing yeast because of the fact that they are sometimes cultured on gluten-containing substrate.

The one kind of food I had been buying and eating without any worry for hidden gluten were unprocessed veggies. Well, yesterday I discovered yet another pitfall: cultivated mushrooms. I tried some new ones, Shimeji to be precise (used in many asian soup and rice dishes). Later, at home, I was taking a closer look at the product: the mushrooms were growing from a visible layer of shredded cereals that had not been removed. After a quick web research I learned that these mushrooms are commonly cultivated on a cereal-based medium like wheat bran. I hope that info his helpful to someone.

I might suggest you consider buckwheat groats. https://www.amazon.com/Anthonys-Organic-Hulled-Buckwheat-Groats/dp/B0D15QDVW7/ref=sr_1_4_pp?crid=GOFG11A8ZUMU&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.bk-hCrXgLpHqKS8QJnfKJLKbKzm2BS9tIFv3P9HjJ5swL1-02C3V819UZ845_kAwnxTUM8Qa69hKl0DfHAucO827k_rh7ZclIOPtAA9KjvEEYtaeUV06FJQyCoi5dwcfXRt8dx3cJ6ctEn2VIPaaFd0nOye2TkASgSRtdtKgvXEEXknFVYURBjXen1Nc7EtAlJyJbU8EhB89ElCGFPRavEQkTFHv9V2Zh1EMAPRno7UajBpLCQ-1JfC5jKUyzfgsf7jN5L6yfZSgjhnwEbg6KKwWrKeghga8W_CAhEEw9N0.eDBrhYWsjgEFud6ZE03iun0-AEaGfNS1q4ILLjZz7Fs&dib_tag=se&keywords=buckwheat%2Bgroats&qid=1769980587&s=grocery&sprefix=buchwheat%2Bgroats%2Cgrocery%2C249&sr=1-4&th=1 Takes about 10 minutes to cook. Incidentally, I don't like quinoa either. Reminds me and smells to me like wet grass seed. When its not washed before cooking it makes me ill because of saponins in the seed coat. Yes, it can be difficult to get much dietary calcium without dairy. But in many cases, it's not the amount of calcium in the diet that is the problem but the poor uptake of it. And too much calcium supplementation can interfere with the absorption of vitamins and minerals in general because it raises gut pH.

What you’re describing really does not read like typical IBS-D. The dramatic, rapid normalization of stool frequency and form after removing wheat, along with improved tolerance of legumes and plant foods, is a classic pattern seen in gluten-driven disease rather than functional IBS. IBS usually worsens with fiber and beans, not improves. The fact that you carry HLA-DQ2.2 means celiac disease is absolutely possible, even if it’s less common than DQ2.5, and many people with DQ2.2 present later and are under-diagnosed. Your hesitation to reintroduce gluten is completely understandable — quality of life matters — and many people in your position choose to remain strictly gluten-free and treat it as medically necessary even without formal biopsy confirmation. If and when you’re ready, a physician can help you weigh options like limited gluten challenge, serology history, or documentation as “probable celiac.” What’s clear is that this wasn’t just random IBS — you identified the trigger, and your body has been very consistent in its response.
