Good god Patti, I forgot to ask......did you get your stove and most importantly did the bread baking resume?!?!?!?

Yes--it came yesterday :D It was quite the production to install--it's a slide in model, and even before they could begin, the electrician had to install a 220 electric line to it.

It looks beautiful--Patti is very happy :P

Bread baking is about to resume as we speak! Did I mention it has a "proof" setting for bread? :D:D

Hi Jaquie :) ........... is it CSI????....Nick Stokes in your av...

Yes nikki you've got the guy in my avatar correct. I'm a confirmed member of the George Eads/Nick Stokes Syndrome Ward.

The knower of all knowledge knows who I drool over regularly besides him :)

Congrats to Michelle for coming in 4th on the Yukon Quest. It has been fun following the action if only by computer.

So we are coming up with a plan today so we wont have to work tomorrow, since it appears it is going to very dangerous out with the snow and ice and all. SO our plan right now is to work until 9 or 10 tonight and then be off all day tomorrow. We have to get in touch with our supervisor who is out all week. I would work the extra time tonight to not have to risk being in an accident tomorrow.

as for my drool list...hmm where should I start....

Amanda--that sounds like a great idea. I worry about Matt (my son)--he has to drive all the way to Langhorne to work. He takes the turnpike, so hopefully, they'll have that pretty clear.

Anyway, you may end up with a long weekend!! Yea! :D

Anyone else besides Patti and Judy (who are in the same state as me) getting winter weather tomorrow?

No, we are going to be in the high 40s for the next few days.

Does this mean your family get-together will have to be postponed? :(

Yes--it came yesterday :D It was quite the production to install--it's a slide in model, and even before they could begin, the electrician had to install a 220 electric line to it.

Drool list....Hmmmm.....

Nobody, to me, will ever equal the classic male ruggedness, beauty...the physical magnificence, of Robert Redford. The rest are rank amateurs, these new-age cover guys. I've always had a dream about drawing him......sigh..........

I think a much more interesting "drool list" would be a compilation of things that actually make us drool. Let's see:

-Dental work, and consequential eating/speaking afterward

-Deep sleep--particularly when on the bus, head scrunched against the window

-The appearance of any food (Whoops! That's Gus)....

weight loss diets can do strange things to people  )

Nikki!! Are you shrinking before everyone's eyes? We, of course, need a report on progress. The great thing is, you can just lie and lie...we will never know...unlike said Slimming Club, where your weight is yelled out to all present as you step on the spotlit scale on the stage....

I thought you said "poof".

I was trying to figure out what gay bread would look like.

Or bread that just simply disappears...

Okay, Quest story:

Our household had been quite curious about the mention in a news feed that Damn Dalton's Dogs were not cooperating as they prepared to leave from the last checkpoint. What was happening? Were the dogs attempting a bloodless coup, a takeover of the lead? Was there infighting, rebellion, a strike mounting? And was it enough to allow Michelle to overtake him?

Well, Will spoke to his bro, and apparently the problem involved his dogs' penises (penii, I believe). When the dogs are running these great distances, they are trained to pee as they go...no slowing down. So one can imagine how freezing of the area can occur, and does. Now, there are special Penis Slings (I am not kidding) that can be fitted on the dog's area, to protect it from freezing. Word is that Mr. Dalton didn't have his dogs slinged up. So, the temporary team breakdown was due to some freezing penii.

Guess he got them warmed up, however, as they stayed in third place....

So now we all know what happened there. I'm certain it was bothering you all to no end....:lol:

jerseyangel Proficient
Okay, Quest story:

Well now...if have this right, it seems that Mr. Dalton had no regard for the penial health of his dogs--and may I add that how would he have liked to have to freeze Little Mr. Dalton so that he could make better time  Bet that woulda stopped him cold <_<But, get it--stopped him cold :P

Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream

N.B In Ptaum's avatar (remember a house inhabited by TWO males) the seat is DOWN????

THE SEAT IS DOWN people!!!!!!!!!!!! ..............why?? (my mind working in a curious manner this eve ........I am quite the detective )

Well, my mind is otherwise occupied these days so thank you, Nicola, for this very astute observation. Yes, why INDEED - - toilet seats down at all in this male household?

OMG - Tom - nice new av and fu manchu but I have to say, John passed out in an absinthe haze in a crumpled heap was my faaaaaaavorite av of all time, I'm pretty sure. Every time I saw it - a pure guffaw. And BTW - he drinks an 18-pack and he's NOT an alkie? Susie thinks both of youse are in denial.....Susie consumed MANY a 12-pack in college  - - rather a lot for a 110-pound girl (back then, pholks, surely not now  )

I was thinking that David's avatar was . . . "A Dingo ate my baybay!!"

I think it was the lesser-used but still quite pertinent "a Dingo ate my Bar-bie!"

YA THINK?????????????? Well, she comes by it honestly now doesn't she!!!!!!!!

well well WELL I SEE OUR DINGO READING......................HA SQUATS............... I STILL WANT DETAILS............GIRLFRIEND

Okay - here's the 411, since evidently there has been some confusion as to who this new DingoBoy is.

<ahem>

SquatsWifDingos is, in fact, Susie's boyfriend. We are a dingo couple, and wif Annie, we are a dingo threesome. and......and.........and..........well you'll all just have to wait and see how things unfold, now won't ya. ;p And BTW he is NOT running unescorted through all of c.com. He stays safely tucked into the welcoming, AMPLE bosom of his girlfriend Sillies. I don't know whether he has zipper pharts or not, but I would imagine so. We'll discuss his phlatus, oh yes. We'll begin some charting, to see if we're compatible. I think all signs point to YES. :)

MICHELLE CAME IN FOURTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yay!!! And she's goign to Belize! OMG these dogs in all the avs are SO beautiful..........

Katsumi the Japanese budgie. I think I like it. :) Not quite the charm as Heinous, but it'll do.

Nicola - voodoo poo. My new favorite phrase.

OMG. I HAVE to catch up with real life now, sillies. PLEASE keep yer damn postings to a minimum. I AM going to become our next queen, and WILL enforce some posting limits. ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you just SEE how you like it then, under my despotic reign!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PENIS SLING?:lol: I actually just used this term, a few weeks ago. I was in TJ Maxx, and there were several of these weird sling-thingy's. I was with a girlfriend and we could not figure out what these things were, in the handbag section (they actually were carriers for skis). So I yelled out - - OMG - what is this contraption? I think it's a PENIS SLING!!!!!!!! And several people looked at us like this ---> And several others were like this --->

OHHHHHH . . . I KNOWWWWW!!!! Martha Stewart's fancy schmancy new Pet Magazine will probably do a whole series on where to get them, all the top designers, this year's latest colors and additional coordinating items (matching musher slings).

I dunno, but I ain't measurin' their inseams!

Likely there is a specialty shop of some sort. The Penis Place.

Now there's a thought....are the mushers wearing slings? I perhaps would be amenable to measurement of some of their inseams.....;)

Thanks again for the detailed explanation. Just to clarify, I actually did have my initial tests done while I was still consuming gluten. I stopped eating gluten only after those tests were completed, and it has now been about 70 days since I went gluten-free. I understand the limitations around diagnosing NCGS and the importance of antibody testing and biopsy for celiac disease. Unfortunately, where I live, access to comprehensive testing (including total IgA and endoscopy with biopsy) is limited, which makes things more complicated. Your explanation about small-bowel damage, nutrient absorption, and iron-deficiency anemia still aligns closely with my history, and it’s been very helpful in understanding what may be going on. I don't wanna get Endoscopy and I can't start eating Gluten again because it's hurt really with severe diarrhea.  I appreciate you taking the time to share such detailed and informative guidance. Thank you so much for this detailed and thoughtful response. I really appreciate you pointing out the relationship between anemia and antibody patterns, and how the high DGP IgG still supports celiac disease in my case. A gluten challenge isn’t something I feel safe attempting due to how severe my reactions were, so your suggestion about genetic testing makes a lot of sense. I’ll look into whether HLA testing is available where I live and discuss it with my doctor. I also appreciate you mentioning gastrointestinal beriberi and thiamine deficiency. This isn’t something any of my doctors have discussed with me, and given my symptoms and nutritional history, it’s definitely worth raising with them. I’ll also ask about correcting deficiencies more comprehensively, including B vitamins alongside iron. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and taking the time to help. I’ll update the forum as I make progress.
    • knitty kitty
Blood tests for thiamine are unreliable.  The nutrients from your food get absorbed into the bloodstream and travel around the body.  So, a steak dinner can falsely raise thiamine blood levels in the following days.  Besides, thiamine is utilized inside cells where stores of thiamine are impossible to measure. A better test to ask for is the Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity test.  But even that test has been questioned as to accuracy.  It is expensive and takes time to do.   Because of the discrepancies with thiamine tests and urgency with correcting thiamine deficiency, the World Health Organization recommends giving thiamine for several weeks and looking for health improvement.  Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses.   Many doctors are not given sufficient education in nutrition and deficiency symptoms, and may not be familiar with how often they occur in Celiac disease.  B12 and Vitamin D can be stored for as long as a year in the liver, so not having deficiencies in these two vitamins is not a good indicator of the status of the other seven water soluble B vitamins.  It is possible to have deficiency symptoms BEFORE there's changes in the blood levels.   Ask your doctor about Benfotiamine, a form of thiamine that is better absorbed than Thiamine Mononitrate.  Thiamine Mononitrate is used in many vitamins because it is shelf-stable, a form of thiamine that won't break down sitting around on a store shelf.  This form is difficult for the body to turn into a usable form.  Only thirty percent is absorbed in the intestine, and less is actually used.   Thiamine interacts with all of the other B vitamins, so they should all be supplemented together.  Magnesium is needed to make life sustaining enzymes with thiamine, so a magnesium supplement should be added if magnesium levels are low.   Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  There's no harm in trying.
    • lizzie42
Neither of them were anemic 6 months after the Celiac diagnosis. His other vitamin levels (d, B12) were never low. My daughters levels were normal after the first 6 months. Is the thiamine test just called thiamine?
    • knitty kitty
Yes, I do think they need a Thiamine supplement at least. Especially since they eat red meat only occasionally. Most fruits and vegetables are not good sources of Thiamine.  Legumes (beans) do contain thiamine.  Fruits and veggies do have some of the other B vitamins, but thiamine B 1 and  Cobalamine B12 are mostly found in meats.  Meat, especially organ meats like liver, are the best sources of Thiamine, B12, and the six other B vitamins and important minerals like iron.   Thiamine has antibacterial and antiviral properties.  Thiamine is important to our immune systems.  We need more thiamine when we're physically ill or injured, when we're under stress emotionally, and when we exercise, especially outside in hot weather.  We need thiamine and other B vitamins like Niacin B 3 to keep our gastrointestinal tract healthy.  We can't store thiamine for very long.  We can get low in thiamine within three days.  Symptoms can appear suddenly when a high carbohydrate diet is consumed.  (Rice and beans are high in carbohydrates.)  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so symptoms can wax and wane depending on what one eats.  The earliest symptoms like fatigue and anxiety are easily contributed to other things or life events and dismissed.   Correcting nutritional deficiencies needs to be done quickly, especially in children, so their growth isn't stunted.  Nutritional deficiencies can affect intelligence.  Vitamin D deficiency can cause short stature and poor bone formation.   Is your son taking anything for the anemia?  Is the anemia caused by B12 or iron deficiency?
    • lizzie42
Thank you! That's helpful. My kids eat very little processed food. Tons of fruit, vegetables, cheese, eggs and occasional red meat. We do a lot of rice and bean bowls, stir fry, etc.  Do you think with all the fruits and vegetables they need a vitamin supplement? I feel like their diet is pretty healthy and balanced with very limited processed food. The only processed food they eat regularly is a bowl of Cheerios here and there.  Could shaking legs be a symptom of just a one-time gluten exposure? I guess there's no way to know for sure if they're getting absolutely zero exposure because they do go to school a couple times a week. We do homeschool but my son does a shared school 2x a week and my daughter does a morning Pre-K 3 x a week.  At home our entire house is strictly gluten free and it is extremely rare for us to eat out. If we eat at someone else's house I usually just bring their food. When we have play dates we bring all the snacks, etc. I try to be really careful since they're still growing. They also, of course, catch kids viruses all the time so I  want to make sure I know whether they're just sick or they've had gluten. It can be pretty confusing when they're pretty young to even be explaining their symptoms!
