Speaking for Laura...she's from the DC area and gets to go to all those fun things downtown.

The only problem is that this is during the week...........and hypothetically, I am supposed to show up at work on those days! :(

Yes, this is another conundrum.....even if I could manage transportation, if I don't get a summer job, I'll be even more broke than I am now :( ...if I DO get a job, I'll probably have to work :angry:

I won't promise anything at this point....too many variables.

Good Morning, Sillies!!

Bah...just looked outside and saw Gus and Elsie playing in the grass. Elsie had a microchip put in yesterday, and the vet said, "NO activity for 24 hours - - the chip can slide down the side of her body, or even pop out." Well, you should see these dogs...tearing around, jumping on each other, Gus's huge paw landing right on the chip area and pulling....

Guess I may be making a trip back to the vet's to ensure it's still in there.

Too bad I cannot multitask, and have the vet do the long proceedure on my dad that I am taking him to the hospital for this afternoon. I don't even know what's involved, but they have all the same testing equipment at the vet's. .. same heart monitors, ultrasounds, stress equipment, scanners. .. Just dunno if there's a big enough holding crate for him. :lol:<_<

I am going to take that day off, I have lots of time stored in my PTO bank and that is how I am going to do it.

Morning Sillies!

I hear this is the last cool day and tomorrow we will start getting warmer and sunnier....here's crossing the fingers to that.

Well off to work some. Talk to you all later!!

Daxin Explorer

Good Morning all,

SO much catching up to do when you miss a day....guess I'll have to try not to do that anymore.

The idea of a get together sounds AWESOME. Wife and I LOVE to travel, so it could be a good road trip.

Today is gardening day before i head in to tell those silly pilots where to go. We bought some roses and a new lilac tree yesterday, and now we have to plant them...then I think the wife wants to get some herbs for her window baskets....should be a good time! I'm so clumsy I'll be lucky to have all my parts when I'm done :)

Ryan!! Fantastic! Philly must be southeast for you....how long a drive is it for you? Moose Jaw is quite north, is it not? It'll be about an 11 hour jaunt for us...

Hmmmm...I think we need to have both Patti and Jess complete a 72-hour phart chart, with numerical specifics that can be observed along with changes in the interval and/or scale, perhaps altering the visual perception of data. This alteration may in itself explain the phluid phluctuation, as per Hermlicht's Theorum.

:lol:

<now why didn't *I* think of that?>

No word a'tall from the woman to whom I sent my resume yesterday. Because, that's right, IT SUUUUUUCKS.

:angry::(

Ah, I wouldn't worry until 4 or 5 days.

That woman must have PLENTY to do, right?

But, I hope our very own MG can come too!!!!!

What does this meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeean????

I'd heard of Moose Jaw in my youth tho maybe only in a Guess Who song. (Medicine Hat too :) ) I'll guess "Runnin' Back to Saskatoon".

Just checked my wall map of the world & surprised to see it's as far east as DENVER!!!!!!

Ryan's driving to Philly?????? :blink::o

Good mornin' HERE Sillies .. .but .. .

YIKES!!!! I wake up to news of Fire in Santa Cruz Mountains!!!

Luckily it's nowhere near the Kissey Cabin area.

Way south, Susie, by Mt Madonna & Hwy152.

Oy!! Firefighters have been working it for 5hrs and it's grown to 2000 acres - what's weird to me is they're predicting it could be 10,000 acres before they get a hold on it.

Yes!! :lol: Thank gawd indeed ...that would've slowed me down considerably.....probably wouldn't be back yet, reduced to crawling the last 1/2 mile on me smouldering stumps :lol:

:o

Is this the norm in hot weather??

I know when my BIL lived near Sydney Aus they got forest (bush) fires every summer

What they call Fire Season hasn't started yet. The brush dries out & gets brown mid-summer.

Good thing the heat is long gone.

We had 2 days close to 100 a week ago, but now it's the normal low 70s. That pleases the firefighters. (Me too :) )

Interesting insight into human nature.

We had a potluck. Everyone made something gluten free, except the girl whom I expected to actually work while she's at work. She made bread pudding...

Well....haven't heard back since my interview, yet. :unsure: She said I would get a call in 2-3 days. This is day 3. I'll bet they save the rejections for last. It's going to really suck if I don't get any work this summer :(

Usually absolute rejections are first. Your more likely in the "possible" pile. Just hard to know where in that pile you are...

So maybe I still have a chance. :unsure: But the longer I wait, the more I worry. :( AARRGHH!

I took my dad to his proceedure this afternoon, and during the car ride I told him about my superb idea of taking both him and Elsie to the vet's, as he could likely get the tests done there in as timely a manner, and I'd only be hitting one place. He thought that this would be a very novel approach to health care. "But", he said, "let's take it a step further, and REALLY multi-task. While you got Elsie's microchip, they could have shot one into my neck as well, and into those of any other senior headed for dementia. I don't know who I am, I go wandering the streets one night - - that chip will tell my tale".

What an interesting postulation. :rolleyes::lol:

      You might consider asking for a referral to a RD (Registered Dietician) to help with food choices and planning a diet. Even apart from any gluten issues, you will likely find there are some foods you need to avoid because of the shorter bowel but you may also find that your system may make adjustments over time and that symptoms may improve.
    • Ello
      I wish Dr’s would have these discussions with their patients. So frustrating but will continue to do research. Absolutely love this website. I will post any updates on my testing and results.  Thank you

      Losing 12" of your small bowel is going to present challenges for you in nutritional uptake because you are losing a significant amount of nutritional absorption surface area. You will need to focus on consuming foods that are nutritionally dense and also probably look at some good supplements. If indeed you are having issues with gluten you will need to educate yourself as to how gluten is hidden in the food supply. There's more to it than just avoiding the major sources of gluten like bread and pasta. It is hidden in so many things you would never expect to find it in like canned tomato soup and soy sauce just to name a few. It can be in pills and medications.  Also, your "yellow diarrhea, constipation and bloating" though these are classic signs of a gluten disorder, could also be related to the post surgical shorter length of your small bowel causing incomplete processing/digestion of food.
    • Ello
      Yes this information helps. I will continue to be pro active with this issues I am having. More testing to be done. Thank you so much for your response.

      There are two gluten-related disorders that share many of the same symptoms but differ in nature from each other. One is known as celiac disease or "gluten intolerance". By nature, it is an autoimmune disorder, meaning the ingestion of gluten triggers the body to attack it's own tissues, specifically the lining of the small bowel. This attack causes inflammation and produces antibodies that can be detected in the blood by specific tests like the TTG-IGA test you had. Over time, if gluten is not withheld, this inflammation can cause severe damage to the lining of the small bowel and even result in nutrient deficiency related health issues since the small bowel lining is organ where all the nutrition found in our food is absorbed.  The other is NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity or just "gluten sensitivity") which we know less about and are unsure of the exact mechanism of action. It is not an autoimmune disorder and unlike celiac disease it does not damage the lining of the small bowel, though, like celiac disease, it can cause GI distress and it can also do other kinds of damage to the body. It is thought to be more common than celiac disease. Currently, we cannot test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out to arrive at a diagnosis of NCGS. Both disorders require elimination of gluten from the diet.  Either of these disorders can find their onset at any stage of life. We know that celiac disease has a genetic component but the genes are inactive until awakened by some stress event. About 40% of the general population has the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% develop active celiac disease. The incidence of NCGS is thought to be considerably higher. I hope this helps.
