Ah! This is fascinating! A girlfriend of mine read it, and absolutely RAVED about it....said things like, "it really spoke to me", and "she feels so deeply",........phunnee, because I love this buddy, but we have NEVER had the same taste in a lot of things, books being a big one....

Thanks, Susie.....I'll be a'passin' on dat one...... <_<

My beloved cousin in Boston canNOT stop recommending this book to me - - I don't have the heart to tell her that I can't even phinish it (though.........I can't PROMISE I won't finish it - - there is a train-wreck fascination to just how truly insipid and awful it is, adn I pick it up every few nights :lol: )

GIAH-KNIT, what was that solipsistic book you were reading - or trying to read - was it "Eat, Pray, Love" by chance?

Because......I just borrowed it from my mom, who couldn't finish it - nor could her entire book club finish it - and I have just done something I haven't done in decades - - threw it across the room - twice in one night (to Kissey's great amusement) because.......well I have never read such poorly-written drivel in all my life......

Yep, that's the one. I couldn't finish it. Probably half the book club couldn't finish it. Only one person from our club had anything positive to say about it (she related to the divorce) but the rest of us thoroughly enjoyed bashing the author and her book.

I had to use forced waiting periods to get any reading done on it . . . whilst waiting for me mammogram . . . whilst waiting for me root canal . . . whilst waiting for the bamboo shoots to be driven in under me fingernails.

 I don't get it.......was such a massive bestseller........I was reading it the other day, many many tedious paragraphs describing her first meal in Italy.......now, I love Italy as much or more than anyone else, and gawd knows I love me some good phood porn......but I was OUT OF MY MIND with anger and boredom, all at once. I love reading about people's journeys and their transformation from something awful.......and COULD NOT CARE LESS about this woman...........

She's one of Oprah's gurus now, too. <_< I seriously don't get the fascination......

you are NOT dissing Oprah!?!?

I haven't cared for the couple of her books that I've read either, but she has gotten thousands of people to read. That's worth a lot, in my book.

Remember House of Sand and Fog? I threw it in the trash.......have never hated a book more... (I trade many books at used book store)

Am going to attempt Pillars of the Earth - looks long but quite good.

True that. Alas, I think her audience is a demographic that is largely readers, anyway......but who knows.

If only we could get her to read the silly thread (if she isn't already  ). Life-changing, for her viewers, and for Oprah herself, fo' shizzle.

I'm generally not a phan of Archer, but I loved Pillars. Think you'll like this one, Susie. :)

I think Oprah is on here..... .. just something I've been suspecting... .. one of those ''guests" or anonymous users... .. Hell, how long does Oprah think she can stay anonymous?

We all know that Oprah owns the world, or a large chunk of it...but she doesn't own Sillyville..... .. I think she's gotten wind of us, of this amazing, untouched place, and she wants in.........

Wait!!!!!....

Haven't seen Llamalady in a few pages..........

Could it be???!!!.... . . ..

Check out the third adventure package on here:

Mygawd.....I do believe we now have proof enough.

I read a few on her list. I read several of the titles when she first started the book club, but I have no memory of them  I do remember I could not get into Jewel. A New Earth is sitting on my dresser unfinished <_<

Anna Karinana I love, one of my favorite books, but I read it way before she put it on her list :P

I am sure Bev will have some things to say about Oprah

He is not just a psychiatrist.  He is also a neuroscientist.  And yes, I have already read those studies.   I agree with benfotiamine.  This is short term while glutened/inflammation occurs.  As I had already mentioned, these symptoms no longer exist when this phase passes.  And yes, I know that celiac is a disease of malnutrition.  We are working with a naturopath.

Please do more research before you settle on nicotine. Dr. Paul New house is a psychiatrist.  His latest study involves the effect of nicotine patches on Late Life Depression which has reached no long term conclusions about the benefits.   Effects of open-label transdermal nicotine antidepressant augmentation on affective symptoms and executive function in late-life depression https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39009312/   I'm approaching the subject from the Microbiologist's point of view which shows nicotine blocks Thiamine B1 uptake and usage:   Chronic Nicotine Exposure In Vivo and In Vitro Inhibits Vitamin B1 (Thiamin) Uptake by Pancreatic Acinar Cells https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26633299/   While supplementation with thiamine in the form Benfotiamine can protect from damage done by  nicotine: Benfotiamine attenuates nicotine and uric acid-induced vascular endothelial dysfunction in the rat https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18951979/   I suggest you study the beneficial effects of Thiamine (Benfotiamine and TTFD) on the body and mental health done by Dr. Derrick Lonsdale and Dr. Chandler Marrs.  Dr. Lonsdale had studied thiamine over fifty years.   Hiding in Plain Sight: Modern Thiamine Deficiency https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8533683/ I suggest you read their book Thiamine Deficiency Disease, Dysautonomia, and High Calorie Malnutrition.     Celiac Disease is a disease of malabsorption causing malnutrition.  Thiamine and benfotiamine: Focus on their therapeutic potential https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10682628/

Thanks for your response.  Everything you mentioned he is and has been doing.  Tobacco is not the same as nicotine.  Nicotine, in the form of a patch, does not cause gastrointestinal irritation.  Smoking does. He is not smoking.  Please do your research before stating false information. Dr. Paul Newhouse has been doing research on nicotine the last 40 years at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Im so frustrated and still getting the run around trying to reprove my celiac disease which my past primary ignored for 25 years.I understand that theres a ray of medical that doctors are limited too but not listening and telling the patient ( me) that im not as sensitive as I think and NOT celiac!Correction Mr white coat its not what I think but for cause and affect and past test that are not sticking in my medical records.I get sick violently with foods consumed, not eating the foods will show Im fabulous. After many blood draws and going through doctors I have the HLA- DQ2 positive which I read in a study that Iran conducted that the severity in celiac is in that gene.Im glutenfree and dealing with related issues which core issue of celiac isn't addressed. My skin, right eye, left leg diagestive issues affected. I have high blood pressure because im in pain.Im waisting my time on trying to reprove that Im celiac which is not a disease I want, but unfortunately have. It  has taken over my life personally and professionally. How do I stop getting medically gaslight and get the help needed to bounce back if I ever do bounce back to normal? I thought I was in good care with " celiac specialist " but in her eyes Im good.Im NOT.Sibo positive, IBS, Chronic Fatigue just to name a few and its all related to what I like to call a ghost disease ( celiac) since doctors don't seem to take it seriously.
    • trents
@Martha Mitchell, your reaction to the lens implant with gluten sounds like it could be an allergic reaction rather than a celiac reaction. It is possible for a celiac to be also allergic to gluten as it is a protein component in wheat, barley and rye.
