Just pooping in real quick... I am so tired... don't know why, just TIRED...

(((HUGS))) to Susie... I know what you're going through. :(

Loooooved Judy Blume, and Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret was one of my favorite books when I was a kid.

I think my poopathon a couple days ago was a Micky D's glutening. <_<

Brian is on vacation all this week, so it's nice having him around... since he's not around much otherwise...

I just realized that with all the chaos of illnesses and medications and everything else, I totally forgot to sign Ezra up for kindergarten. :o Furthermore, we may have missed open house. :( What a space cadet... <_<

Edited to Add... I also meant to    at the Kenyan pushups!

Good afternoon- Looks like I missed some beautiful moments and Jess-isms. You guys are the best!

I just think that amazing people sometimes forget that they are amazing, and need reminding.

Ditto to you Miss Glittery Eyes (gorgeousssssss!!!!!!!!!)

All right. Jess, you have been Silly-Instructed NOT to scream with such ferocity (font size 8, er sumphin'), as it completely strrrrrretchesssss all of our screens, and there must be constant, exhausting scrolling back and forth. Well, Ptaoughmghmn!

Had a lovely dinner with my parents, and it is true....I am SO unbelievably blessed to still have them both here, both in their eighties, and both mentally sharper than anyone around....sharper than ME, fer sure.....

My dad is fading physically, however. :(:( Parkinson's.

I thought my screen had stretch marks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Parents growing old :( It's hard. My dad is 78 and last night I just thought "Gawd, when I lose him :( " His cat's been sick and to him, it's the last symbol of my mom in his place. He has been heartbroken (she is doing better though) and it breaks my heart too. Sigh.

Oh Emmy, honey, if love could only make our wishes happen. Your dad's body is only here to hold his gift to the world. It's only the wrapping paper that's getting tattered; the amazing being that is your father is still, and will always, be here. Not only has he given joy and laughter to untold numbers of his fans, he's given us you. And you have given us Jack. The world is a better place because of him.

And you.

See- Jess-

TEE HEE- apparently someone posted info (spam-a-lot) on a rehab center near where we stayed in Maine. y'all know I've been such a partier lately!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very well said! I was attempting to come out of hiding when I happened upon (okay . . . willing looked against my better judgment) the thread which I believe caused your page stretching scream and I think I am outta here again. What's the point of contending with people who believe they are so smart that they somehow understand how a DEAD virus could make them sick. Somebody get these people a scholarship to MIT. <_< I'm sure the experts in virology could use some help in coming up with an HIV vaccine. Oh that's right . . . vaccines are much more dangerous than any of the illnesses they protect against . . . how could I forget.

YES- WE Need to know what this is all about (although I have my suspicions <_< <_< )

SUZEEEE- I hope you're feeling better. COLD TURKEY??????? PLEASE be careful- Wellb. is not a cold turkey drug- uhm.....scared cuz cold turkey Wellb. can result in seizures. Really. :( :(

Won't be long and the leaves will be changing colors and phallen!

jess - love yer one-eyed glitter ;)

Parents growing old.......oh god...my mom is 70, but does not have great health (breast cancer twice - first at age 32, w/ 16 lymph nodes removed......second at 40), thyroid cancer, diabetic (celiac in denial), three heart attacks and now a pacemaker (the medieval radiation in the sixties killed part of her lower heart tissue).... I REALLY need my mom to stick around for a while! :( (oh, Dad died of colon cancer at 56 - CELIAC ALSO)

Julie - oh dear! it's pure panic here if air conditioner goes out.....but what is phunny is that, the second I read of fluids coming out of it, I immediately looked at yer post count

Nik - transfats........ *sigh* They'll be a thing of the past in California restaurants soon... I think? Anywho, I"ll be over w/ Julie and Pat also......bloody hot here......

Bev - PICC line? :( let's hope this is NOT true.

BUT OMG - you're right - - I felt soooooooo sick yesterday - actually did read about seizure possibility and took half a pill in early evening......slightly better today. Felt like my brain was exploding yesterday, was short of breath, kept blacking out when standing up......

am I EVER going to be normal? :( Do I even HAVE any neurotransmitters left at all? :( I seriously doubt it......and, can you run out of endorphins entirely? because I think I have......

OK- you guys will get a GOOD LAUGH out of this:

Hear I am half crying/half laughing (thanks to Jess) and I go to let Angus in. He is CLEARLY occupied playing with some poor animal (I'm thinking bee and don't want him to get stung).

So I call him, he won't come. I go out barefoot cause I'm waiting for the yelp and as I get closer I realize it's something bigger (no- not the Montauk Monster).

Start walking faster (BAREFOOT) and SQUISH. Dog poop. And he's playing with this poor, defenseless, no-eyed baby mole so do I grab him and go in? NOOOO. Must save the mole first (GEEZUS- I must be a farking Buddhist).

Just finished wiping, washing and sanitizing the feet. Mole in better shape than me

Uncle Ray is in da house!!!!!

Thoughts on Retirement:

I've often been asked, 'What do you do now that you're retired?'

I say, 'Well, I don't have much of a chemical background but one of the things I enjoy the most is turning wine into urine!'

Uncle Ray's Home Remedies:

AMAZINGLY SIMPLE HOME REMEDIES

1. AVOID CUTTING YOURSELF WHEN SLICING VEGETABLES BY GETTING SOMEONE ELSE TO HOLD THE VEGETABLES WHILE YOU CHOP.

2. AVOID ARGUMENTS WITH THE FEMALES ABOUT LIFTING THE TOILET SEAT BY USING THE SINK.

3. FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE SUFFERERS ~ SIMPLY CUT YOURSELF AND BLEED FOR A FEW MINUTES, THUS REDUCING THE PRESSURE ON YOUR VEINS. REMEMBER TO USE A TIMER.

4. A MOUSE TRAP PLACED ON TOP OF YOUR ALARM CLOCK WILL PREVENT YOU FROM ROLLING OVER AND GOING BACK TO SLEEP AFTER YOU HIT THE SNOOZE BUTTON.

5. IF YOU HAVE A BAD COUGH, TAKE A LARGE DOSE OF LAXATIVES. THEN YOU'LL BE AFRAID TO COUGH.

Blood tests for thiamine are unreliable.  The nutrients from your food get absorbed into the bloodstream and travel around the body.  So, a steak dinner can falsely raise thiamine blood levels in the following days.  Besides, thiamine is utilized inside cells where stores of thiamine are impossible to measure. A better test to ask for is the Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity test.  But even that test has been questioned as to accuracy.  It is expensive and takes time to do.   Because of the discrepancies with thiamine tests and urgency with correcting thiamine deficiency, the World Health Organization recommends giving thiamine for several weeks and looking for health improvement.  Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses.   Many doctors are not given sufficient education in nutrition and deficiency symptoms, and may not be familiar with how often they occur in Celiac disease.  B12 and Vitamin D can be stored for as long as a year in the liver, so not having deficiencies in these two vitamins is not a good indicator of the status of the other seven water soluble B vitamins.  It is possible to have deficiency symptoms BEFORE there's changes in the blood levels.   Ask your doctor about Benfotiamine, a form of thiamine that is better absorbed than Thiamine Mononitrate.  Thiamine Mononitrate is used in many vitamins because it is shelf-stable, a form of thiamine that won't break down sitting around on a store shelf.  This form is difficult for the body to turn into a usable form.  Only thirty percent is absorbed in the intestine, and less is actually used.   Thiamine interacts with all of the other B vitamins, so they should all be supplemented together.  Magnesium is needed to make life sustaining enzymes with thiamine, so a magnesium supplement should be added if magnesium levels are low.   Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  There's no harm in trying.
    • lizzie42
Neither of them were anemic 6 months after the Celiac diagnosis. His other vitamin levels (d, B12) were never low. My daughters levels were normal after the first 6 months. Is the thiamine test just called thiamine?
    • knitty kitty
Yes, I do think they need a Thiamine supplement at least. Especially since they eat red meat only occasionally. Most fruits and vegetables are not good sources of Thiamine.  Legumes (beans) do contain thiamine.  Fruits and veggies do have some of the other B vitamins, but thiamine B 1 and  Cobalamine B12 are mostly found in meats.  Meat, especially organ meats like liver, are the best sources of Thiamine, B12, and the six other B vitamins and important minerals like iron.   Thiamine has antibacterial and antiviral properties.  Thiamine is important to our immune systems.  We need more thiamine when we're physically ill or injured, when we're under stress emotionally, and when we exercise, especially outside in hot weather.  We need thiamine and other B vitamins like Niacin B 3 to keep our gastrointestinal tract healthy.  We can't store thiamine for very long.  We can get low in thiamine within three days.  Symptoms can appear suddenly when a high carbohydrate diet is consumed.  (Rice and beans are high in carbohydrates.)  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so symptoms can wax and wane depending on what one eats.  The earliest symptoms like fatigue and anxiety are easily contributed to other things or life events and dismissed.   Correcting nutritional deficiencies needs to be done quickly, especially in children, so their growth isn't stunted.  Nutritional deficiencies can affect intelligence.  Vitamin D deficiency can cause short stature and poor bone formation.   Is your son taking anything for the anemia?  Is the anemia caused by B12 or iron deficiency?
    • lizzie42
Thank you! That's helpful. My kids eat very little processed food. Tons of fruit, vegetables, cheese, eggs and occasional red meat. We do a lot of rice and bean bowls, stir fry, etc.  Do you think with all the fruits and vegetables they need a vitamin supplement? I feel like their diet is pretty healthy and balanced with very limited processed food. The only processed food they eat regularly is a bowl of Cheerios here and there.  Could shaking legs be a symptom of just a one-time gluten exposure? I guess there's no way to know for sure if they're getting absolutely zero exposure because they do go to school a couple times a week. We do homeschool but my son does a shared school 2x a week and my daughter does a morning Pre-K 3 x a week.  At home our entire house is strictly gluten free and it is extremely rare for us to eat out. If we eat at someone else's house I usually just bring their food. When we have play dates we bring all the snacks, etc. I try to be really careful since they're still growing. They also, of course, catch kids viruses all the time so I  want to make sure I know whether they're just sick or they've had gluten. It can be pretty confusing when they're pretty young to even be explaining their symptoms!
    • Scott Adams
That is interesting, and it's the first time I heard about the umbilical cord beings used for that test. Thanks for sharing!
