We had a wonderful lunch. :)

The only thing that was not stupendous about our lunch was that it was not longer!!! Not nearly enough time to chat..... .. :( ...and the layout of our conversation setting was less than ideal - -superb restaurant, but we were at a long, rectangular table, so I could hardly see Jacquie half the time....I could see Will perfectly, as he was across the table, but hell, I see him all the bloody time.

POeter should be met by everyone. Talk about an Oracle- - he even looks like one. Wisdom lies, easily visible, within his eyes. I just wish we'd had more time! I hardly got to talk with Jacquie....such a great lady. So, we shall meet again, you two - -I'm simply not finished with you yet. :)

Please come to Ottawa!

NIKERLER"S BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes, we need ANY and all kilt reports and any other items of interest in yer travels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My ancestors moved from the Highlands of Scotland to the lowlands (not sure why) and.........I simply MUST go there, I fear i will ne'er return.................... will fall in love wif the terrain, the phood, and the men, will find my true love and stay fore'er

hope he's not my cousin

Nay problem ....... least not in the Highlands

I also had ancestors from the lowlands (the Gordon clan in Aberdeen)

Indeed, I ABSOLUTELY know dear Suzee that I could nae drag yer away from one of THE most beautiful places on Earth.

Mygawd!!!....unfortunately no sightings of any men in kilts <_< harumph!!!.....which is a shame but mebee for the best (be still my beating heart!)......the accent alone is enough to tranfix you.

The whole place has a mystical/magical feel to it, mother nature at her best, the stunning stone architecture, the history etc etc <stop me if I'm boring you>

We stayed in a wee village called Nairn about 20 miles out Inverness ('Inver'=Rivermouth).....about 10 miles from the site of the Open Original Shared Link

The weather is WEVVAH there!!........ as you drive through the mountains the temperature suddenly drops below freezing dramatically and you in the middle of a snow storm....and then it's gone within minutes.

The sun always manages to shine (but yer need yer polar fleece under yer coat!)

Everywhere is water, pure clean springs, rivers, lochs

I somehow imagine the landscape is similar to Canada??

Holy crap!! ....on the way our GPS took us the 'shortest route' (instead of main roads).....OMG....NAE a good idea.....THE most treacherous roads, thin winding (ungritted!) roads with a sheer drop of 500 ft on one side!!!

Kids thought it was a hoot  ..... more of a white knuckle ride for me

snowed, eh? guess you Brits don't SEE snow too often, do you! You MUST come to California in the winter, oh, and in the spring, we'll take you up to Yosemite and other sights - you will D-I-E!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well then, we shall split our time between the two!!

Yes, in fact this all does sound quite like parts of Canada (we're talking 9,093,507 square kilometres of land, so we do have a lots of everything). . . .

So, I think the big Psummit should, in fact, be up here. Less distance for Nikerler, beautiful landscapes anywhere we choose, and....well, my hot tub .. . . . ..

From where you are, it is about 2,660 miles, and would likely take almost 40 hours driving time. The part heading toward Denver is rather scenic, but once you hit the prairies it is phlat.

Hi Sillies

glad to hear the big canadian trip went well.

Some bad news here. Jen's mom had a heart attack today and is unstable. Jen worked last night a 12 hr shift. This happened around 4:30- 5 today. So I ran and got Landen at his Saturday night babysitters. we tried to get Jen a flight out tonight but we had no luck. There were no no flights to Detriot which is the closest airport to where she needs to be. There was a 9pm flight to Cleveland but it was leaving from Philly and we would not have made it. So Jen was just going to make the drive to Michighan. I helped her pack and now she is driving the 11 hr drive. Hopefully to make it there by 5am....she only had like 3 hrs of sleep today. hang on she is calling......

Ok- she is 40 mins away and is very tired and may turn home. I found her a flight on Southwest that would depart at 10 and get her into Detriot at 11:30. I am waiting for her to call back and see what she has decided.

Her mom has never had a heart condition or any problems. They are going to airlift her to a different hospital to perform a surgery....maybe a bypass.

So this weekend has not been a great one.

On the housing note we will be seeing another one tomorrow, but the one we loved came with some issues that we dont think we would like so we will pass that one by.

Please keep Jen's family in your thoughts and prayers for us!!!

Ummmm . . . . . . who's whining?? Suezee or Weezle?

Just to remind everyone (and make you all jealous) . . . me family is still planning a trip to Washington State for Spring Break . . . part of the time to be spent in Seattle. Besides Jess, doesn't Colleen (CruelShoes) live out that way, too??

Amanda, so sorry to hear about Jen's mom . . . she's in my prayers.

Thanks Everyone

Jen is home here in Harrisburg tonight and we will be taking her to Baltimore to the airport early tomorrow morning. She called John before and apologized for ruining our night since we were going to Hershey Park. John told her if she didnt stop apologizing he would be mad at her.

So the flight leaves tomorrow @ 10. She is flying Southwest- cheaper and she can take her luggage for free. She will fly into Harrisburg on her way home.

You might consider asking for a referral to a RD (Registered Dietician) to help with food choices and planning a diet. Even apart from any gluten issues, you will likely find there are some foods you need to avoid because of the shorter bowel but you may also find that your system may make adjustments over time and that symptoms may improve.
    • Ello
I wish Dr’s would have these discussions with their patients. So frustrating but will continue to do research. Absolutely love this website. I will post any updates on my testing and results.  Thank you

Losing 12" of your small bowel is going to present challenges for you in nutritional uptake because you are losing a significant amount of nutritional absorption surface area. You will need to focus on consuming foods that are nutritionally dense and also probably look at some good supplements. If indeed you are having issues with gluten you will need to educate yourself as to how gluten is hidden in the food supply. There's more to it than just avoiding the major sources of gluten like bread and pasta. It is hidden in so many things you would never expect to find it in like canned tomato soup and soy sauce just to name a few. It can be in pills and medications.  Also, your "yellow diarrhea, constipation and bloating" though these are classic signs of a gluten disorder, could also be related to the post surgical shorter length of your small bowel causing incomplete processing/digestion of food.
    • Ello
Yes this information helps. I will continue to be pro active with this issues I am having. More testing to be done. Thank you so much for your response.
    • trents
There are two gluten-related disorders that share many of the same symptoms but differ in nature from each other. One is known as celiac disease or "gluten intolerance". By nature, it is an autoimmune disorder, meaning the ingestion of gluten triggers the body to attack it's own tissues, specifically the lining of the small bowel. This attack causes inflammation and produces antibodies that can be detected in the blood by specific tests like the TTG-IGA test you had. Over time, if gluten is not withheld, this inflammation can cause severe damage to the lining of the small bowel and even result in nutrient deficiency related health issues since the small bowel lining is organ where all the nutrition found in our food is absorbed.  The other is NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity or just "gluten sensitivity") which we know less about and are unsure of the exact mechanism of action. It is not an autoimmune disorder and unlike celiac disease it does not damage the lining of the small bowel, though, like celiac disease, it can cause GI distress and it can also do other kinds of damage to the body. It is thought to be more common than celiac disease. Currently, we cannot test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out to arrive at a diagnosis of NCGS. Both disorders require elimination of gluten from the diet.  Either of these disorders can find their onset at any stage of life. We know that celiac disease has a genetic component but the genes are inactive until awakened by some stress event. About 40% of the general population has the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% develop active celiac disease. The incidence of NCGS is thought to be considerably higher. I hope this helps.
