Hee! Somehow I can't imagine Pataghumn running his phingers through the hair of anyone named Clive!

<Ho job> too phunny :P

Late night, last night! I sat watching the returns and then the speeches and didn't get to bed till well after 1. I wanted to take it all in, because no matter how you look at things-- it was one historic night!

Hi Jools!!!!!!

Good Hump Day everyone!

 (again) totally different meaning here

I seem to have gotten behind here, again, and I think I figured out how that is.....on my free posting time I get sucked into Facebook commenting on pictures and accepting and sending various things and I get lost in an elaborate maze and can't find my way out

OMG!!!! I KNOW!!!!!

(J, you best NOT check out my new photo album then - you'll be gone for HOURS  )

Susie Q, sorry about your phloough :( I do hope it is just a 24 hr bug and that you feel better upon rising today, so glad you were able to get out there and cast your vote!!

Indeed, I hope our Schmooze is all better!

I know we aren't suppose to talk about politics, but I thought last night was pretty incredible no matter what your party affiliation or political views.

Definitely

Thinking about Amanda and her dad, hope she pops in and gives us an update.

Yes, hoping she gets a chance to let us know if her Dad's surgery goes ahead tomorrow.

GADS , had to go back ( ) and re-write me whole post as I'd written it in CAPITAL LETTERS.....and I didn't want you to think I was SHOUTING .....as I'm not a shouty kind of person :meek&mildface:

Ok, not quite as monumentally newsworthy, but today in the UK is (wait.... <ahttps://www.celiac.com/uploads/emoticons/default_unsure.png alt=''> maybe just England) is Open Original Shared Linknight or commonly known as bonfire night.

I refuse to buy any fireworks as they are so bloomin' dear, AND are dangerous, AND, Alan hates the noise........so all in all just another day for me lol! (must remember to keep the cats in tonight)

...and can I just say how much I admire Julie's posts, she never forgets a thing, and always addresses all the things I wish I had!!!

Poop in..haven't read up (tsk, tsk) but wanted to say hello!

Angus has been renamed Barkbark Obama in honor of our new president (and his vociferous barking!) :D

Anyone heard from Amanda? Still thinking about her and her dad.

OMG. . . . . ....

Once again, solved every single problem in the world whilst sitting in hot tub with drinking girlfriends. Everything except yer phlu, Soooozie, although it was mentioned. My GP buddy stated that NOTHING makes inphluenza disappear. Stress and activity can perhaps prolong it, so please lie on yer couch wif mags, the TV and Weezie. ;)

....Hmmm...everything except the mess in me kitchen. Gad, and dinner will be happening in a couple of hours. Not on my watch, howevah - - I've clearly eaten and drunk too much to be working in any kitchen.:lol:

Um. . . . .we toasted Mr. Guy Fawkes. Thank gawd there were no fireworks within reach, as we may have let them off.

No word from Amanda as yet. . . . .... :(

Amanda's dad was probably in surgery for quite a while, so we may not hear from her till tomorrow--at the earliest. I've had them on my mind today, too.

Barkbark Obama--hee! :D

Hi everyone-

a quick breeze by, dad did not surgery today. He was unstable last night and so now the surgery is scheduled for 7am Friday morning. He took a shower today and passed out from the weakness and due to his heart being in such bad condition. So I am at my mom's and watching the little ones...talk to you all later...

Hi guys! :D

Had to stop in, I miss you all so much!

I've been job-hunting like crazy... the lack of prospects around here is utterly dismal. I've offered myself up as a volunteer at the boys' school, just for something to do, which will be fun. Also, maybe then the next time a paid position opens up, I'll have a better chance. I'm sure the principal currently thinks I'm a basket case. Between our confrontations a couple years ago, and the drama this year, that dude has not seen me at my best.

Ezra got his cast off last week, and is NOT being careful of his arm at all. Orthopedist said it's only 60-70% healed, which surprised me. But he's not having much pain, and so far he hasn't whacked it or slammed it around too much, so... :)

Lucas is a lot more emotionally volatile than he used to be, but is doing relatively ok. He's doing really fantastic in school, and has a lot of friends.

B had a full-out nervous breakdown and is in therapy. He almost lost his job, but saved it by going to part time (child support just got hacked in half.) He now jumps back and forth between wanting me to be his best friend, and treating me like I'm his biggest enemy, who ruined his life. He also goes back and forth between being emotionally unable to handle the kids visiting, and accusing me of keeping them away from him.

It's pretty hideous, but I'm doing ok. Trying to keep all this crap from the kids, so they can just heal. I think I've been mostly successful in that... but they don't really trust him anymore, especially Ezra. They know they can't count on him... which breaks my heart. I wish I could tell them that they can, but I can't- it would be a lie.

We all had a great Halloween- no barphing this year! I hope everyone's doing ok. I saw a message that Amanda's dad is having surgery? I hope he's ok, my thoughts are with you Amanda.

Love you all,

-S.

You might consider asking for a referral to a RD (Registered Dietician) to help with food choices and planning a diet. Even apart from any gluten issues, you will likely find there are some foods you need to avoid because of the shorter bowel but you may also find that your system may make adjustments over time and that symptoms may improve.
    • Ello
I wish Dr’s would have these discussions with their patients. So frustrating but will continue to do research. Absolutely love this website. I will post any updates on my testing and results.  Thank you
    • trents
Losing 12" of your small bowel is going to present challenges for you in nutritional uptake because you are losing a significant amount of nutritional absorption surface area. You will need to focus on consuming foods that are nutritionally dense and also probably look at some good supplements. If indeed you are having issues with gluten you will need to educate yourself as to how gluten is hidden in the food supply. There's more to it than just avoiding the major sources of gluten like bread and pasta. It is hidden in so many things you would never expect to find it in like canned tomato soup and soy sauce just to name a few. It can be in pills and medications.  Also, your "yellow diarrhea, constipation and bloating" though these are classic signs of a gluten disorder, could also be related to the post surgical shorter length of your small bowel causing incomplete processing/digestion of food.
    • Ello
Yes this information helps. I will continue to be pro active with this issues I am having. More testing to be done. Thank you so much for your response.
    • trents
There are two gluten-related disorders that share many of the same symptoms but differ in nature from each other. One is known as celiac disease or "gluten intolerance". By nature, it is an autoimmune disorder, meaning the ingestion of gluten triggers the body to attack it's own tissues, specifically the lining of the small bowel. This attack causes inflammation and produces antibodies that can be detected in the blood by specific tests like the TTG-IGA test you had. Over time, if gluten is not withheld, this inflammation can cause severe damage to the lining of the small bowel and even result in nutrient deficiency related health issues since the small bowel lining is organ where all the nutrition found in our food is absorbed.  The other is NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity or just "gluten sensitivity") which we know less about and are unsure of the exact mechanism of action. It is not an autoimmune disorder and unlike celiac disease it does not damage the lining of the small bowel, though, like celiac disease, it can cause GI distress and it can also do other kinds of damage to the body. It is thought to be more common than celiac disease. Currently, we cannot test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out to arrive at a diagnosis of NCGS. Both disorders require elimination of gluten from the diet.  Either of these disorders can find their onset at any stage of life. We know that celiac disease has a genetic component but the genes are inactive until awakened by some stress event. About 40% of the general population has the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% develop active celiac disease. The incidence of NCGS is thought to be considerably higher. I hope this helps.
