Leeesargh, you have indeed been busy with a new, changing home scenario yerself! A new adventure for you, too......and the rest of your family. It is terrific that your daughter and SIL have you. . . .you can hunker down together and wait for this economic spiral's demise...together, as families should be! :)

Mornin', Peeps!

Jeez Louise, it remains unseasonably cold here, considering we're now into March.......still well below zero, and the canal remains open to skaters. All of our big toboggan hills are open and busy still, as well. What in hell is the matter wif people?? Stop partaking in such activities, and it will get warmer!!

Nik! How's Tel? Will had shingles about ten years ago.....long, angry red patches of painful, raised sores along one side of his face (lovely) and upper chest. He was medicated and fortunately things resolved quickly. Hope this abates just as fast.. . ..

What else?. . . . . Jess's gnee. . ...are you able to get around well, Jess? You need those Roman, shirtless grape-feeders, methinks. . . ...

:D

Lots happening around here. DD and her boyfriend, David have an apartment together. David has been working as a substitute teacher. He obviously won't be able to work over the summer, and the economy the way it is.......it'll be hard for him to find something. David is like family, and in hard times......you take care of your own. So hubby offered to let them live with us to save money. With snow days and holidays, it's been tough going for them, too....so they're going to move in next month.

Good for you Lisa . . . I watched Oprah the other day about the growing number of homeless and the number of tent cities and all the people losing their homes and such . . . and I was amazed at the people that did not/would not ask their families for help. I'm sorry, but I just don't understand that . . . if we lost our house, one of our parents would be taking us all in . . . and then we would be working as hard as we could to chip in for their expenses . . . and to "get back out"!!!

:lol::lol::lol:

Morning Sillz!

Another Busy weekend coming to an end!

We had Julia's 5th birthday party on Sat- John and I had fun picking up gifts for her- we ended up getting a Lite Brite which now comes in a flat screen model--Lite Brite has evolved folks!

I also chopped my hair off on Saturday- it was mid back and now it is chin level- I was doing the flippy style today but it only lasted until i was getting closer to the building and then the wind took it all crazy!

So I see we have another winter storm upon us- patti and judy are going to get a dumping but we are lucking out and only getting like 4-5 inches- John is very upset over this.

I made lasgana for the first time in my life last night- I did a no boil recipe and it turned out great!!!! I had originally set out to make Broccoli and Cheese stuffed shells but I couldn't in the end so I will make those later in the week.

We no longer have the apt- our walk-through was on Friday and we feel it went well. I am keeping my fingers crossed!

Well work time is here!

Bye for sillies

Good Monday morn Sills :) Gorgeous day here, temps in the 70s on tap for today...I think Old Man IWnter is very confoozled.

Just got back from a weekend getaway with me fam and good friends, had a nice time just wish the weather would have been warmer Fri and Sat, but it was a beautiful day yesterday. We went to a college basketball game Sat and yesterday did a little site seeing, and the resort we were staying at was just beautiful and so posh, felt so pampered :)

Had some food/restaurant issues, omgosh I don't know how you guys do it.....I don't eat in restaurants but maybe one time a year (if that) since I have so many food allergies intolerances so I don't know the drill (what to ask for/what to look for). I took some of my food and thought I would live it up a little and eat one restaurant meal a day, which I was totally nervous about.

So the first night I pre-looked over the menu at the place we were going to be eating and they had roasted chicken with a vegetable and I thought, perfect! It comes out breaded  ....who has ever heard of a roasted chicken that is breaded?? That's like an oxymoron

Then the second night I was talking to the waitress about wheat allergy/gluten intolerance and asked her a bunch of questions for the manager (i.e. dedicated fryer for fries, wheat ingredients in the hamburger patties, could I just get a plain grilled chicken breast, etc) She comes back and says, "the manager can say with somewhat certainty the hamburger patties don't have gluten but not sure about the bun..." X 10

There was more, much much more, but I've already written a book here  but you get the idea...

How is everyone??

Jess! Did you have surgery?? WHAT?????? How did I miss that? How are you doing/feeling?

Nikki, Tel has shingles? Poor poor Tel, I hear that is incredibly painful. How is he holding up?

Sorry about your friend's news Em :( Sounds like they caught it though in the early stages so that is encouraging and hopeful.

Lisa, it's so wonderful you and yer DH are helping your kids out in tough times. I agree, that's what families are for

Amanda, yer hair sounds cute :)

Gah! I am so behind I know I missed so much more.

 you all!!

I have a thing for very tight, hyper-close-up compositions. I've drawn several portraits of old, haggard men's and women's faces, many of which are just an eye and part of a nose. DD finds some of these scary, and was worried that a huge close-up of a zebra head would freak her out when she's trying to get to sleep. We'll see. . . . . ......

LOVE the zebra! now - the old man's eye and nose would scare me out of a good sleep -

sillies - I have not been taking care of myself - - eating CRAP :( Very lazy about my diet (strict gluten avoidance, but wayyyyyyy too much sugar-y stuff and crap - not enough cooking - too many dinners of TJ's mini chicken tacos and stuff like taht)

It's caught up with me - have to go on MASSIVELY healthy detox diet now. I think I am seriously addicted to sugar :( Two weekends in a row I have eaten a whole pan of brownies  and it's been YEARS since I've done that.

I did get my period three days early, though, which explains some of it

anywho, I feel like RUBBISH and must turn this around tout-sweet - - going to be hard giving up the sugar, esp. since the boys at work just got a HUGE case of Dove Chocs.......

help me

well Happy Monday everyone, and all those in snaugh, stay warm and snuggie! Tiger Pigs all around!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad you had some fun though :D

Ok, you twisted me arm

I've been using Brocato hair products. I phound out about them at the salon where I had me Deva cut last month. Julie told me that they were available at Ulta (and more resonably priced than at the salon).

I use the Splassh shampoo and conditioner--which is a good basic everyday shampoo/conditioner, and the two curl balms that I mentioned. None of these have gluten--some of their stuff does.

Open Original Shared Link

I highly recommend :D

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind
    • cristiana
Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.

It could be a fructan intolerance? How do you do with dates?  https://www.dietvsdisease.org/sorry-your-gluten-sensitivity-is-actually-a-fructan-intolerance/
