I'm getting ready to start demolishing my kitchen, so I've moved the cats' food into the sunroom. Max objects to the move and has gone on a hunger strike. Lefty, in full support of his buddy, has gone a 'double portions' strike. :P

:lol::lol: Gotta love 'em!

Sounds like this'll keep you plenty busy!! Are you remodeling? Tearing out and putting in new? When I had my little house up north I re-did the kitchen. Couldn't afford to replace cabinets so I re-faced them. They looked pretty good...certainly better! I also tried my hand at building some cabinets.....they looked really good too...if you didn't look too closely!! :P Even the best boards from Lowes and Home Depot have warps to them. Have fun whatever it is you're doing!

Hi all . . . back from Illinois . . . was a good trip . . . much better than I was expecting.

And let me tell ya . . . my mom saved EVERYTHING!!!! GAWD, this is going to be quite a job. My hubby told me "You eat an elephant one bite at a time" and I responed wif "I think I chewed off a toenail".

My mom had bank statements from my grandmother who died 12 years ago . . . I found bank statements from an orgnization that she has belonged to forever that were dated late 60's early 70's. . . . and there seems to be those knee high pantyhose things included in everybox regardless of what is in the box. It is somewhat . . . um . . . entertaining? . . . you just don't know what you are going to find. I really thought most of the stuff would go to good will, but I had a very large amount of trash . . . I think she saved every Christmas card she ever got. Dad was in decent spirits most of the time and also entertained by some of the items we were finding . . . the most used phrase of the weekend "Why in the world would she save THAT??!!"

Jess . . . hope the job thing works out.

Em . . . Holy Smores I didn't realize your dad has been in the hospital all this time . . . hope he gets to go home soon.

Amanda . . . so good to see you and so sorry 'bout your loss but looking at your silver lining . . . it's good to know that you can get pregnant. Praying that things go smoothly for you next time.

Joodee . . . good to see you and glad you are stayin away from those cigs.

Bevel . . . meow silly girl.

all you foot people . . . I've got wide feet wif a high instep . . . really hard to fit . . . spend a lot of money on shoes that seem OK but after wearing a few times (and can't take back) decide that they're too tight/rub wrong.

Hi to Pat-Hee, Raychull, Suzee, Tea, Nik, Lisa (how'd the dancin' go?),Shroom (poor girl in a forumless abyss), Peter, and all the rest (on Gilligan's Isle)

Babysitting this am . . . should probably go check on them and kick them off of the Wii and make them play outside before it rains. (Um Jess, we've been gettin' yer rain. You can have it back . . . well not all of it)

completely wiped. Forgot how intense interviews are.

I went to bed right before you came on! Glad it went well, I knew it would. ;) Great that you got to meet everyone, that sounds very positive.

I remember little of it, as I was just a wee babe . . . . . ..... <_<<_<

<_<

Jack's Little League team won their first playoff game last night 7-6.

Go Jack!!! :D

Jyah-gnutt! Great that you are back, and after a productive, not-completely-heart-wrenching trip. I think many people in our parents' generation were amazing packrats - - when my parents moved out of their house they had been in for 43 years, it was incredible what we were going through.......but no knee-highs!

I'm getting ready to start demolishing my kitchen, so I've moved the cats' food into the sunroom. Max objects to the move and has gone on a hunger strike. Lefty, in full support of his buddy, has gone a 'double portions' strike. :P

Me too!!!! How exciting, Jyessss. .. .....We moved our entire kitchen from one area of the house to another six years ago. LOVED designing things the way I wanted 'em...the way they should be!

Yep, I woulda been callin' that pup Poop.

Or Feces.

Dem animals, don't try and mess wid der habits :o:lol:

Beware the kitchen remodel!!! Ours started off fine, became a wiring upgrade too, ended up raising the roof from a semi-flat to a pitched (rained when the roof was off in June--in CA!! ), ending up involving every room in the house because of all the leaks ( we continued to live in de house, all this taking six months!!!) Good luck  and fair weather

Jahnit-- happy anniversary gal!!

Yer muvver!!!! You realize after they've gone how little you really knew about them. My husband's maiden aunt was the same way; I had the job of closing out her house and it reached the point I was afraid to open another drawer--postage stamps ripped off every letter she ever received, all packaging paper folded up neatly and saved for a rainy day, but all saved and stored in beautiful antique furniture :o

Nickerler and Tea, I am one of those too!! I only have to be in the vicinity, not even look at it, and Whammo!! it's broke. But I didn't do the 'puter, well at least not this time. I did it last time :o --found out that 'puters is teetotallers and did not like my glass of wine at all; but we cleaned it all out and they repaired it under warranty while scratching their heads how it happened

Lyle still lives in the bedroom, with his own private food supply. Have not yet managed to commingle the cats without one of 'em squeezing the pee out of t'other - all over my floor.

This list is heeelarryus, Jyanutt, in such a bittersweet way.

Your mom, I now know, was a wonderful, interesting woman. Boy, she was ready for anything! Don't know when someone is gonna come and visit who just needs to erase all of the answers in crossword books and do them again, or when one may need to know if August 23, 1982, was a Wednesday or not, or how often street names/directions are changed in the state of Illinois, leaving all current printed maps obselete.. . . . .... .:lol:

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/

@SamAlvi, It's common with anemia to have a lower tTg IgA antibodies than DGP IgG ones, but your high DGP IgG scores still point to Celiac disease.   Since a gluten challenge would pose further health damage, you may want to ask for a DNA test to see if you have any of the commonly known genes for Celiac disease.  Though having the genes for Celiac is not diagnostic in and of itself, taken with the antibody tests, the anemia and your reaction to gluten, it may be a confirmation you have Celiac disease.   Do discuss Gastrointestinal Beriberi with your doctors.  In Celiac disease, Gastrointestinal Beriberi is frequently overlooked by doctors.  The digestive system can be affected by localized Thiamine deficiency which causes symptoms consistent with yours.  Correction of nutritional deficiencies quickly is beneficial.  Benfotiamine, a form of thiamine, helps improve intestinal health.  All eight B vitamins, including Thiamine (Benfotiamine), should be supplemented because they all work together.   The B vitamins are needed in addition to iron to correct anemia.   Hope this helps!  Keep us posted on your progress!

Currently, there are no tests for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out and we do have testing for celiac disease. There are two primary test modalities for diagnosing celiac disease. One involves checking for antibodies in the blood. For the person with celiac disease, when gluten is ingested, it produces an autoimmune response in the lining of the small bowel which generates specific kinds of antibodies. Some people are IGA deficient and such that the IGA antibody tests done for celiac disease will have skewed results and cannot be trusted. In that case, there are IGG tests that can be ordered though, they aren't quite as specific for celiac disease as the IGA tests. But the possibility of IGA deficiency is why a "total IGA" test should always be ordered along with the TTG-IGA. The other modality is an endoscopy (scoping of the upper GI track) with a biopsy of the small bowel lining. The aforementioned autoimmune response produces inflammation in the small bowel lining which, over time, damages the structure of the lining. The biopsy is sent to a lab and microscopically analyzed for signs of this damage. If the damage is severe enough, it can often be spotted during the scoping itself. The endoscopy/biopsy is used as confirmation when the antibody results are positive, since there is a small chance that elevated antibody test scores can be caused by things other than celiac disease, particularly when the antibody test numbers are not particularly high. If the antibody test numbers are 10x normal or higher, physicians will sometimes declare an official diagnosis of celiac disease without an endoscopy/biopsy, particularly in the U.K. Some practitioners use stool tests to detect celiac disease but this modality is not widely recognized in the medical community as valid. Both celiac testing modalities outlined above require that you have been consuming generous amounts of gluten for weeks/months ahead of time. Many people make the mistake of experimenting with the gluten free diet or even reducing their gluten intake prior to testing. By doing so, they invalidate the testing because antibodies stop being produced, disappear from the blood and the lining of the small bowel begins to heal. So, then they are stuck in no man's land, wondering if they have celiac disease or NCGS. To resume gluten consumption, i.e., to undertake a "gluten challenge" is out of the question because their reaction to gluten is so strong that it would endanger their health. The lining of the small bowel is the place where all of the nutrition in the food we consume is absorbed. This lining is made up of billions of microscopically tiny fingerlike projections that create a tremendous nutrient absorption surface area. The inflammation caused by celiac disease wears down these fingers and greatly reduces the surface area needed for nutrient absorption. Thus, people with celiac disease often develop iron deficiency anemia and a host of other vitamin and mineral deficiencies. It is likely that many more people who have issues with gluten suffer from NCGS than from celiac disease. We actually know much more about the mechanism of celiac disease than we do about NCGS but some experts believe NCGS can transition into celiac disease.
    • SamAlvi
Thank you for the clarification and for taking the time to explain the terminology so clearly. I really appreciate your insight, especially the distinction between celiac disease and NCGS and how anemia can point more toward celiac. This was very helpful for me.

Hi,  My 7 year daughter has complained of this in the past, which I thought were part of her glutening symptom, but more recently I have come to figure out it's part of her histamine overload symptom. This one symptom was part of her broader profile, which included irritability, extreme hunger, confusion, post-nasal drip. You might want to look up "histamine intolerance". I wish I had known of this at the time of her diagnosis, life would have been much easier.  I hope you are able to figure out.
