Fishes in the pond are fat and happy! I think they've about doubled in size!

"Fat and happy"? "Doubled in size"? Sounds like you are describing me.

Was I sleepswimming again?

Mygawd... . . ....I've never realized just how ponderous, how deeply intellectual our musings have been

Pffftt! *snicker*

Yes, intellectual giants.

Especially when engaged in a group cocktail hour.

read this as graphing...

Queenie, honey, expect to see a "Great Questions Graph" as your avatar pretty soon.

I'll have you know I took this as a challenge. I poked around Microsoft Office and discovered that I haven't a clue as to how to produce a computerized graph. You'll have to give me a lesson.

In-service at Jess'!!

I call shotgun on the swing

When I come back from a fortnight 2 weeks away there was a crazy 500 or so in my inbox!!!! (there was some kind of c.com coup while I was out the country :lol: )....... musta took me 2 weeks AGAIN to catch up!

500 :o I bow to you, Nik. You are popular.

Poor Nikki, lost in the land of incommunicado. Cleaning, reading--had to resort to such base survival activity. What next, cooking??? Oh dear gawd, noooo.

I had something to say, and can nae remember what it was.

Hmmm....?

Well.

Oh yes--talked to my boss at UPS today. The good news is they are missing me, so hopefully I will still have a job to go back to. I feel bad for abondoning him, but what could I do? I told him I would be happy to cover a half day here and there, but I'll have to bring my daughter with me.

What else?

Oh, yeah--you guys, I wish you could have all been there this weekend. What fun we'd have. It's a nice little vacation spot, Houghton Lake. It's getting pretty commercial, though :(

But, the lake was cleaner and higher than it has been in many years. For about 7-8 years past there was millfoil in the water (a nasty kind of seaweed that chokes out everything and grows like 12 feet high). They drained the lake and treated it with something. It is naturally a very shallow lake (you can wade out very, very far).

My dog must have swam 10 miles altogether. We put him on a harness attached to a 30 foot lunge line and just let him think he was free. I had to reel him in like a fish :D

I let my daughter ride a go-kart at "fun city" even though the minimum age was 10 and she is only 9. She never rode before and just put the pedal to the floor and BAM!! She never slowed down or looked back until it was time to return to the "pit". I kept yelling 'slow down', but she conveniently couldn't hear me <_<

note to self**never--EVER--let Taylor borrow the car.

We made s'mores with Kinnikinnick "S'morables" gluten free graham crackers and Enjoy Life soy chocolate bars. Between those and the pina coladas, I swear I was feeling diabetic.

I brought home all the bedding, mattress pads, rugs, etc. to wash (I do this every year) so I have a mountain of laundry. Barely fit it all into the Escape.

I should really be re-organizing the HUGE mess in my daughter's room right now, but just...can't ...seem...to...care.:rolleyes:

That's all that's happening in my world--what's going on with you all???

We lurve the smoreables here . . . but it's quite a drive to the only store that I know that carries them. I thanked my Kroger manager last week for bringing in the Betty Crocker mixes and talked about some of the other products. Asked how I could get him to carry Smoreables (since they carry some of the other Kinnikinnick items). He told me to put together a wish list of all the items I would like and we would start from there and see what they can do . . . :D

Second horseback riding lesson today . . . so far so good . . . she's gonna hafta go to college to get a good job so she can afford a horse habit.

Bonus for Smakl . . . the place is crawlin' wif toads . . . nuttin' better . . . toads for Smakl and horses for Skeeter . . . ahhhh life is good.

I make the very same mental note to myself regarding my MIL when she comes to town . . .. . ......and her reason for not hearing isn't one of inconvenience, it is one of a hearing aid that is constantly being turned off.

At least Taylor does slow down - -and has not run anyone over...........has she?

Had a hideous sugar laden blowout meself yesterday

At certain times of the month (that futile time  )..I have Bulimia sans vomitting

WHY?? ...Is there a dip in blood sugARS or summat?? ...a REAL reason (with which I can justify eating twice the necessary calories needed for a women in one day  )

I'm sure if I were a diabetic like Em I wouldn't do it (COULDN'T I should say)

I am SOOOO gonna be good today ;) ...going to cut the grass and do some calorie burning gardening - then walk (!)the mile & half to the supermarket.

Also preparing my intrepid explorer Al's belongings for his Paris trip next week (only a European tour this year  )

EM!!...meant to ask you, how did you find Paris for the whole gluten-free thing??? (I know Al will be ok for dinner at their hotel as I've corresponded with them......but I'm a tad concerned about 'lunch off the cuff' when they're out and about  )

In other news of my hum drum life...my eldest son (Dan) will be TWENTY years old on Saturday!!!!

WHAAAAAAT?!?!?!?!

Surely I'm TOO young???

I completely relate to the massive rise in caloric intake at that time. I am either craving chocolate (as in, "will die without it") and protein, or I can't eat at all.

Nikki, I think there is definitely something to be said for having your children when you are young enough to keep up with them. I was already in my 30's when I had Taylor and I can't believe that I will be about 50 when she graduates from high school?! I'll probably have a cane by then.

All this talk of Paris and London and other far away magnificent places reminds me that I always wanted to see Europe.

On my list of places I'd like to see are:

the English countryside

the Scottish anything

the Meditteranean

Greece

Rome

Tuscany

Basically, anywhere there are beautiful landscapes and ancient buildings. I looooove historical architecture, especially churches and lighthouses.

I am taking my girl to have her lab work done today (Vit-D, Vit B-12, celiac panel) to bring to her 6 month follow up with the ped. GI next week. She's not looking forward to the poke, but understands the necessity for it.

My next door neihbors are having their driveway replaced and the workers are busting out the concrete right now so it is very loud (my dog is TWEAKED). Did I ever tell you guys what an incredible resource and support this neihbor has been? She, too, has celiac and has helped us with answers and info every step of the way. It was such a shock to discover that two people living right next to each other both have the same awful disease.

They have so much on their plates and have to work very hard to keep it up and be there for their family, and yet somehow they manage. They are yet another family I look at and wonder "How do they do it?"

How do any of us keep on doing it?

I wanted to buy some ground sirloin burgers yesterday. Nothing fancy, just the Kroger brand. Guess what they were asking for 4 patties? $7.00!!!!!!!! WIH?????? For burgers??? At this rate, we will surely be broke by the end of the...Summer? Month? Week? Next door they have 3 jobs between the two of them. Scott and I, as you know, have the same during the school year. I can't help but wonder why the regular folks have to pay the way for the wealthy and greedy.

OK, enough of my politics...

You have a twenty year-old son??? Gads, children having children . .. ...... ;)

 Well...yes

I look at him and think 'I was married and had a baby at your age  '......I don't even trust him to use the dishwasher in my absence :o

...but *I* didn't feel too young when I had him......I seemed to have an 'old head on young shoulders'.....errm, I think I'm actually getting more childish the older I get

or I can't eat at all.

That NEVER happens  (....unless I drink wine on an empty stomach  )

Well I highly recommend Scotland (I am in love with the place ♥)

GADS, yes and all the others (haven't ever been to Greece though)

We Brits really don't appreciate having all of Europe on our doorstep

Hope T was ok at the docs ;)

Gah!

I know what you mean. But I'm not sure if it's immaturity or ambivalence or insanity  Whatever the case, I am not the control freak miss immaculata sharp as a tack intellectual I once were. My faculties seem to have abandoned moi.

Tell me all about your travels. I would love to hear about it or see pics.

Scott may actually have to go to Germany and/or Italy on company business this year or next. We already decided that if he goes to Italy, I will tag along (that's what credit cards are for, right?)

We may take a trip to Chincoteague Island in VA this summer. Our daughter is a huge fan of the Marguerite Henry books about the wild ponies and really wants to take a trip there. The ponies live on Assateague Island, which is shared by Virginia and Maryland, on the atlantic coast. I just don't know how to scrape up the $ for the cost.

did somebody mention dancing?

My girl did great at the hospital. She was very nervous, but I specifically asked for a phlebotimist I used a while back for my own labs and he was awesome with her. She was anticipating pain, but he was so gentle that when he inserted the butterfly needle she said, 'Whoa! Ohmigosh! That was wild", because it didn't hurt. We were crackin' up :P

Fantastic . . . looks like if Smakl ever has to have another blood draw, we'll be driving to Michigan.

Psst...

hey, girls, guess what I'm doing right now?

I'm rolling tobaccy by the window, watching the "Marlboro Men" working on the driveway next door.

Shhh...if they don't know I'm here they won't look.

I think one just took his shirt off **snickercacklegiggle**

Dd10 was tested for celiac four years ago bc two siblings were dx’d (positive labs and biopsies). Her results at the time were positive ema  and ttg (7x the UL), but a negative biopsy. We checked again three months later and her ttg was still positive (4x the UL), but ema and biopsy were negative. Doc said it was “potential celiac” and to keep eating gluten, but we were concerned about harming her growth and development while young and had her go gluten-free because we felt the labs and ema in particular were very suggestive of early celiac, despite the negative biopsies. She also had stomach aches and lethargy when eating it. We just felt it’d be better to be safe than sorry. Now, four years later, she doesn’t want to be gluten-free if she doesn’t “have to be,” so underwent a 12 week gluten challenge. She had labs done before starting and all looked great (celiac panel all negative, as expected.) Surprisingly, she experienced no noticeable symptoms when she began eating gluten again, which we felt was a positive sign. However, 12 weeks in, her labs are positive again (ttg 4x the UL and ema positive again as well). Doc says that since she feels fine and her previous two biopsies showed nothing, she can just keep eating gluten and we could maybe biopsy again in two years. I was looking up the ema test and the probability of having not just one but two false positives, and it seems ridiculously low.  Any advice? Would you biopsy again? She’s old enough at this point that I really feel I need her buy-in to keep her gluten-free, and she feels that if the doc says it’s fine, then that’s the final word — which makes me inclined to biopsy again and hope that it actually shows damage this time (not because I want her to have celiac like her sisters, but because I kind of think she already does have it, and seeing the damage now would save her more severe damage in the long run that would come from just continuing to eat gluten for a few more years before testing again.)  Our doc is great - we really like him. But we are very confused and want to protect her. One of her older sibs stopped growing and has lots of teeth problems and all that jazz from not catching the celiac disease sooner, and we don’t want to get to that point with the younger sis. fwiw- she doesn’t mind the biopsy at all. It’s at a children’s hospital and she thinks it’s kind of fun. So it’s not like that would stress her out or anything.

Thanks for the replies. I already use a gluten-free brand of buckwheat flakes I occasionally get itchy bumps. I'm still reviewing all my food products. I occasionally eat prepackaged gluten-free crackers and cookies, so I'll stop using those. I use buckwheat flakes and Doves Farm flour as a base for baking. Would you recommend eliminating those as well? It's a constant search.

Gluten free food is not fortified with vitamins and minerals as regular food is.  Vitamin deficiencies are common especially in recently diagnosed persons,  Get a 25(OH)Vitamin D blood test. And work on raising it.  The safe upper blood level is around 200 nmol/L.    "Low serum levels of 25(OH)D have been associated with increased risk of autoimmune disease onset and/or high disease activity. The role of vitamin D in autoimmune diseases   🏋️‍♂️Good job!   I find the commercial milk will give me mild stomach burn at night, while pasture/grassfed only milk does not bother me at all.  While you are healing, listen to your body.  If it hurts to eat something, eat something else.  You may be able to eat it later, or maybe it is just not good for you.  Lower your Omega 6 to 3 ratio of what you eat.  Most omega 6 fatty acids are inflammation causing.    The standard american diet omega 6:3 ratio is estimated at upward of 14:1.  Thats why fish oil works
    • Inkie
I  notice a reaction to tea bags, possibly due to gluten or other substances. Is this recognizable?
    • trents
The blood tests you had done are not the main ones. The two main ones are the "Total IGA" (to check for IGA deficiency) and the "TTG-IGA". Current guidelines for the "gluten challenge" when people have been gluten free for a significant time period are the daily consumption of at least10g of gluten (about the amount in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) for at least two weeks leading up to the day of the blood draw. That should give you some perspective.
