Another day without a rejection letter.

Me phingers are crossed fer ya! ;)

OMG sillies--two things.....Mark and I came out of a meeting this afternoon and it was actually sprinkling. (we've had zero rain all month). The sun was also out, and it was about 101--we looked up and there was the most beautiful rainbow! :D Just gorgeous!

Second thing was the dinner I put in the crock pot--round roast wif all the phat trimmed off, onions, carrots, sweet and white potatoes and a bottle of Sweet Baby Rays cooked fer 10 hours. So-o-o-o-o good!

Well, today was day one of the civil service strike in Toronto, and already the garbage is piling up.

And then, there is the household waste that is not being collected.

It would be enough to drive you to drink. But, you better stock up fast--the government monopoly liquor store is going on strike on Wednesday. :o

It looks like a long, hot, dry summer in Toronto.

Emily, where art thou?

Jess, I'm hoping you get out of your current rat hole into a better one.

You poor sober Canucks . . . I feel for ya . . . nothing like telling you that you can't have a drink to make you want to drink.

mimommy Contributor

So has anybody heard from Emily at all? Did she make it off the island

Geez, Peter, that sounds rough...no garbage pick-up? :o No liquor? :o Gotta love civil unrest

These are very trying times we live in. My advice? Buy noseplugs and lots of air freshener. Build a still in your bathtub, or cross the border and I'll buy you a drink :)

Sills, I am not happy. No, really. Not...at...all.

I MUST fix what's wrong in my life home--mess, clutter, overcrowding. I've spent the past 2 hours looking for storage/furniture for my daughter's bedroom. I need to have a garage sale. I need to rid myself of the crap stuff my parents are storing in my basement. I need to feel better, doggoneit.

Where'd Lynnie go?

did we scare her off?

Morning Everyone-

Jess still keeping da fingers crossed for ya!

Summer is finally arriving....yea!!!!! going to be hot the next few days! I dont like heat that much but I want to finally feel summer! and no more rain! My poor tomato plants leaves are turning yellow from too much water...

elye Community Regular

HEY!! WE GOTS A NEW PSILLY!!! :):)

Welcome to the madness, Lynnie! Um, yes, ya gotta tell me. . ....... ..is there in fact a way that we could have determined your sexual orientation without actually being told, as you intimated? Do gay folk write in a certain fashion, use particular syntax and/or vocabulary? Often have countless pets, hail from certain areas of the continent? What in hell have I been missing all my life?:lol:

Somehow methinks you are right, Jyaghnutt......it was all determined from Jyess's German lesbians . . .. . ...

OMG. . . .....all I did was drink diabetically legal wine and coolers and eat many things . . . . . ....

Oh, and dance.

Just before I left for T.O., I made incredible penis earrings out of sculpey for my sister and my best friend, with whom I went. Hadda bake them in the oven - - quite something to come upon should one just happen into my kitchen and peer through the oven door. They were conversation pieces like you can only imagine. I suppose putting up a pic of them in my av would warrant another warning... . . .. ...I may even get in trouble over on Da Book.

Bah.

Don't you believe it. If you don't watch out she sneaks up behind and bites you :o Haha, I can say that because she's on vacation and can't reach me (yet)

Dear gawd, I did SO much of this whilst away... . . .biting people.:lol: Not prudent, to be sure, what with this swine flu hovering around..... . . . .

I'm not sure where she is at the moment, but she was heading for the Toronto Islands. You can only get there by boat, and the ferry is going on strike in 3 hours along with the rest of the city staff. There are private water taxis.

Quite a pain. They are running little tour boats to accommodate the Islanders. We got back quite late as the ferry schedules are not being followed.

Seems to me that getting "stuck" on an island in the summer would not be the worst catastrophe to ever happen!! Oh! Why did we not all go wif her?!?!?

This is where we must plan our Psummit. Truly. I thought this often whilst walking along the beautiful paths, whilst down by the beach, whilst reaching for another cooler from the fridge.... ... <_<

Missed y'all! No word on the job, Jyess? How is tel's wrist?

Welcome back to reality silleville, Em. We missed you. I think an innocent new av of you wearing your earrings would be OK . . . hey, you didn't realize that you were wearing them when someone else took your pic . . .

Don'ts know if we've got a new sill or not . . . she didn't come see us yesterday . . . . . . even though you weren't here Emily, I'm sure it's your fault if she doesn't come back. :P:lol:

Liquor providers on strike.

:o:o

Gaaaahhhhhhhhhhh.. ............. . ..

Must go and stock up. As I was coming home just now i saw the parking lot at the LCBO nearby - - cars on top of one another, people out screaming, throwing themselves bodily into parking spaces..... . . .

It would seem that the Nation's Capital is full of individuals who need to drink... ... .

Alzy's off to Gay Pareeeee!! SOOOooo exciting. Mygawd, what would the French do in the event of a liquor strike?? 'Twould be mass anarchy, methinks.

And on the teeth straightening and cat menageries: have both things occurring in me household, as well. Tess, Bryce and the neighboUr's enormous black tom who, amazingly, squeezes himself through our cat door, eats the cat food, takes a few swats at Bryce, then leaves, spitting and growling most angrily. <_<

Think I shall hook one of my penis earrings to his collar the next time he visits. This may discourage the neighboUrs from allowing him to fraternise with anyone in this house (and they may think twice, as well). . . . ......

Both kids, not cats, have active ortho happening. Sophie just wears her retainer at night now, after braces on the uppers and lowers for four long years. Jack is getting diagnostic molds and Xrays done next week.

So, we are paying our orthodontist's rent until 2011. . . . . .......

With about four hours to go, it looks like the booze strike is on. Beer and Ontario wine are available at other outlets, but spirits are not. Emily can cross the Ottawa River into Quebec and shop at the SAQ for liquor, or at numerous corner stores for beer and wine.

The only gluten-free beer available in Ontario is sold only at the LCBO. I have a small supply on hand.

:angry::angry: Bah, I do not.

You must be speaking, POeter, about La Messagere. I have read all I can find about Saporro (sp.?), the Japanese rice beer that many, including some who sound like they should know what they are talking about, claim is gluten-free. Seems the jury remains out -- I know Celiac.com refutes this claim. Do you know anything on this, Oracle?

Yes, it is handy and something of a relief being only minutes from the interprovincial bridge at times like this - - the Quebeqouis would never let such a social calamity as unavailable liquor take place in their belle province. B)

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind
    • cristiana
Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.

It could be a fructan intolerance? How do you do with dates?  https://www.dietvsdisease.org/sorry-your-gluten-sensitivity-is-actually-a-fructan-intolerance/
