Holy smoke!

I've been smelling smoke for about an hour, and just went outside and it is really strong out there. There is a four-alarm fire burning about 1.5 miles east of the store. It started about an hour and a half ago.

Jestgar Rising Star

I is home, well, work, and is really tired.

I met Ken Love!! My first c.com meeting!

He showed me all kinds a cool stuff and weird fruit and parks n' stuff. Awesome day. And he's an amazing cook. Do whatever he says when he talks about recipes.

Went hiking on my last day and got good and burnt. Got home at midnight. Spent lots of time snuggling cats. Got up at 5. Running out of steam.

I'll try to become more human over the next couple days. And put some pics on da book. Just realized that I got none of Ken. :o:huh: I'm such a dork

The news media have some pics of yesterday's big fire. They are striking, so I thought I would share one of them.

The house is in a wooded area at the edge of a valley. Very expensive real estate in this neighbourhood. Ninety firefighters responded and took five hours to put it out.

A rainy morning here in Toronto, but it should clear for this evening.

Is that the Jillian Michaels? I have the No More Trouble Zones and Boost your Metabolism. They're each about an hour and I'm swearing like a sailor by the end! But she kicks arse like I've never seen. ( much better than those Buns of Steel biotches, or the Dancing Grannies-if you've been watching Ellen

it IS Jillian Michaels - She is.........evil  I have watched Biggest Loser a few times, will pay more attention now. she doesn't seem to be yelling at me too much in the DVD.

But - ain't no WAY I can do this for 30 days straight - egads - would SURELY suffer serious injury. Was so SORE yesterday, gimping around the office and cackling, could not do the workout.....well - wait, I could have - thought better against it. still VERY sore today, but must get to it!! <askeert>

Hey! Do those Mini Tesco Whores service the Twa?

no, I believe 'tis the Twa who service the Mini Tesco Ho's  As clearly they have vacated Nik's (where is the CHWISTMAS TWEE??????) but...Nik did they help you carve that SPOOOOOOOKY fab pumpkin before they left? love it ;)

You say that now............

Plus it's Friday, in my office, anything goes on Fridays. It usually gets pretty raunchy here with 6 immature men and 1 rummy, sleep deprived, coffee guzzlin lady :P I will also try my very best to stay away from all the Halloween goodies I made yesterday and brought to work ;)

 um, rah-shelle, are we workin' in the same place? (no - there's only three guys usually, and moi, and one fab office mascot - The Weezelle  )

...waived my eldest son Daniel off for his weekend in Amsterdam with a group of friends ( )......... he's just phoned, they MISSED their flight

:o yer boy is in Amsterdam? gadzooks *snackle* For the weekend? oh dear...yes, good thing inDEED 'tis not Devil Child going.....

(pholks, please realize I am conserving emoticonery here as will SURELY get busted )

:irritated face:

WHY WHY WHY can't we have as MANY emoticons as we WANT???? :ggrrrrrrrrrrrrr:

Ray-Shall.....looked up yer "boo-boo". 'Twas pseriously NOT a boo-boo. I stopped even reading those posts some time ago. Advice never taken (acknowledged), just the same ol' tiny violin. I have to say....you found a whole group of people supporting your stance and advice....which was wise advice.

yup, what Tea said!

TEA! sounds like you get quite a lot of activity wif yer daily stuff......dang, are you on your pheets all day at work? could NOT do it......back would give out.......

I used to watch . . . had a bad effect on me . . . I always got the munchies and seemed to sit down wif a bag of chips crisps or cookies bisquits whilst watching. Yes, I gained weight while watching The Biggest Loser.

gahhhhhhhhhhh *cackle*

Poeter! Amazing photos, so sad. What absolutely GORGEOUS homes, with TREES, lots of big, gorgeous TREES, clearly not CLOVIS <_< Looks like I could be very happy living there. With Twa, of course, to clean and maintain things. ;)

Half our house burned down when I was in fourth grade....was w/ my parents and little brother at some good friends' house for dinner.....knew nothing of it until my brother called us, who just HAPPENED to stop by our house to get something (he was living elsewhere) and rescued my TINY, brand-new pure white kit-ten Puffy and our German Shepherd pup Greta. :) 'Twas surely God's providence. Puff, BTW, spent the night at our -across-the-street neighbors, and when I got him in the morning, he was covered in black soot!

Pads........are you all done w/ the apartment? and yer jet-set life? How's the house?

Hope Judith is doing well........is she on the road? Heading to Sunny California? B)

what's everyone doing fer halloween? I am having early dinner at PF Chang's w/ a friend from HS who found me on the 'book - second social engagement this week from peeps finding me! So much fun! My friend is 100 percent gluten-free as well (very exciting! she's not celiac but gluten-intolerant) so we are having an early dinner, then I will be home in bed, in the darkened house, avoiding hooligans

Happy Saturday, Sills! :)

flourgirl Apprentice

We have some guests for the weekend...and we'll all be hiding behind curtains with outside lights off. We don't get trick or treaters here anyway. I think I can feel card games coming on!

Yeah, Psuess, I work on my feets all day. Can't stand the thought of ever having a sit-down job, although there are many days (these days) that I think I SHOULD have. I have always had much more physical jobs than this one. Miss those days of much energy and many muscles!

Pieter...glad the phires were not worse than that! They look bad, tho'.

Welcome home SJgess! What a wonderphul opportunity you've had.

Wicked winds here today..and storms brewing up. Must be Holloweenie!

Soooozle! What a story! Your dog and cat saved by your brother.....providence, fo sho' . .. . .. .... :)

Well, I was in and out of the city administration building in about five minutes.:huh:

No line-up. Filled in the paperwork as I stood there, went ahead in, sat beside a nurse, felt the jab, then left.

People have been lined up by the THOUSANDS the last five days -- waiting times of two to six hours.

Was it all a dream?

Incidentally, the first two weeks of shots are to be given only to those with underlying, compromising med. conditions.....I got in with my diabetes. I was curious about the celiac, though, so I asked the nurse if it alone would qualify me, and she immediately said, "Yes. It's autoimmune".

Hmmm. You'd think we'd be lowest priority. Crap, my immune system lets NOTHING past it - - even things it shouldn't destroy! Bits of gluten, beta cells....... Strongest system around, methinks... . . .... ... <_<

flourgirl Apprentice

Yeah, there's something about the immune system being stuck in overdrive. I don't seem to catch the sicknesses that people are suffering with all around me.....I just feel like krap because of the things the immune system targets that it shouldn't. Kinda like dropping bombs on your own cities. Glad you didn't have to deal with the hours long wait. I am passing on the jab....let someone else have it who may need it more.

other than the prostitutes, this sounds like the making fir a fabulous vaca!! If I wasn't a married old lady with beh-beh's, I'd be seeking out Nik's son and his friends!!! :)

We are off to the mall to trick-or-treat tonight. Too cold and icky, (plus Ann Taylor is having a majah sale!!)

Happy spooky night to y'all and enjoy that extra hour of sleep tonight!!

Two months ago, I started taking Dupixent for dermatitis herpetiformis and it has completely cleared it up. I can't believe it! I have had a terrible painful, intensely itchy rash for over a year despite going fully gluten-free. See if your doctor will prescribe Dupixent. It can be expensive but I am getting it free. When the dermatitis herpetiformis was bad I could not do anything. I just lay in bed covered in ice packs to ease the pain/itching and using way too Clobetasol. Dapsone is also very good for dermatitis herpetiformis (and it is generic). It helped me and the results were immediate but it gave me severe anemia so the Dupixent is better for me. Not sure if it works for everyone. I cannot help with the cause of your stress but from experience I am sure the severe stress is making the celiac and dermatitis herpetiformis worse. Very difficult for you with having children to care for and you being so sick. Would this man be willing to see a family therapist with you? He may be angry at you or imagine that your illness is a psychosomatic excuse not to take care of him. A therapist might help even if he won't go with you. Also do you have any family that you could move in with (with the kids) for a short time to get away? A break may be good for you both.

@tiffanygosci, Thiamine deficiency is a thing in pregnancy for "normal" people, so it's exponentially more important for those with celiac disease and malabsorption issues. I studied nutrition before earning a degree in Microbiology because I was curious what the vitamins were doing inside the body.  See my blog.  Click on my name to go to my page, scroll to drop down menu "activities" and select blog.   So glad you're motivated to see the dietician!  We're always happy to help with questions.  Keep us posted on your progress!
    • tiffanygosci
Thank you for sharing all of this, Knitty Kitty! I did just want someone to share some commonality with. I did not know This one Deficiency was a thing and that it's common for Celiac Disease. It makes sense since this is a disorder that causes malabsorption. I will have to keep this in mind for my next appointments. You also just spurred me on to make that Dietician appointment. There's a lot of information online but I do need to see a professional. There is too much to juggle on my own with this condition.<3

I think your initial idea, eat gluten and be tested, was excellent. Now you have fear of that testing, but isn’t there also a fear each time you eat gluten that you’re injuring your body? Possibly affecting future fertility, bone health and more? Wouldn’t it be better to know for sure one way or the other? If you test negative, then you celebrate and get tested occasionally to make sure the tests don’t turn positive again. If you test positive, of course the recommendation from me and others is to stop gluten entirely.  But if you’re unable to convince yourself to do that, could a positive test at least convince you to minimize your gluten consumption?  Immune reactions are generally what is called dose response, the bigger the dose, the bigger the response (in this case, damage to your intestines and body). So while I am NOT saying you should eat any gluten with a positive test, the less the better.
    • knitty kitty
@Riley., Welcome to the forum, but don't do it!  Don't continue to eat gluten!  The health problems that will come if you continue to eat gluten are not worth it.  Problems may not show up for years, but the constant inflammation and nutritional losses will manifest eventually.  There's many of us oldsters on the forum who wish they'd been diagnosed as early.    Fertility problems, gallbladder removal, diabetes, osteoporosis and mental health challenges are future health issues you are toying with.   To dispel fear, learn more about what you are afraid of.  Be proactive.  Start or join a Celiac group in your area.  Learn about vitamins and nutrition.   Has your mother been checked for Celiac?  It's inherited.  She may be influencing you to eat gluten as a denial of her own symptoms.  Don't let friends and family sway you away from the gluten-free diet.  You know your path.  Stick to it.  Be brave.
