This evening is the fifth anniversary of my first post on the board. I lurked for several months before signing up so I could respond to a survey by a high school student who was also a moderator at the time. Molly isn't here often, but I see her on da book frequently.

FIL called last night and has invited himself and MIL and BIL (that I haven't seen in 15 years) over . . . house hasn't been dusted since before Thanksgiving, still unpacking from the Christmas trip, pile of about 10 garbage bags full of quarentined stuff from the delousing stuff still located in the dining room . . . really looking forward to this visit <_<

Hope yesterday was terrific for everyone. Today is the Ripper's THIRTEENTH birthday. He awoke this morning with his first zit, right inside his nostril. Good and bad: 'tis tough to get to, but not easily seen. I must relay that one of the first things Jack said as he was trying to see it in the mirror, and I stood behind him commenting on how fortuitous it was, having a first zit appear on the day of passage into teenage-hood, was "Whoa. .. . .. ......you need to tell the Psillies about this".....

I have one in the same spot, hurts to move my face!!

Actually I've already been diagnosed.........but my biggest issue is a SEVERE stabbing pain. Luckily, it doesn't happen too often.

We are in quite a quandry over New Year's.

We have been going to a friend's house every New Year's Eve for years. It's a tradition. This year we have also been invited to another friend's party. The same place we went for Halloween. He has hired these people from a dinner theater murder mystery to perform, then dancing after that. So do we stick with tradition? Split our time between the two? And if we do that........do we attend the dinner/murder mystery part (which I probably won't be able to eat), or the dancing part?

I would laugh till I peed my pants if someone said this to me. If you are someone who takes pleasure in either cleaning, or a clean house, more power to you. I, however, prefer to deal with the mess by simply going somewhere else so I don't have to see it. It all just gets messy again, why do anything?

They lasted 45 minutes. Right before they came over, my FIL called to say BIL is allergic to dogs . . . poor JoDog, she really enjoys company . . . so after 45 minutes, BIL could no longer breathe. I did vacuum up the dog hair tumble weeds that were blowing through the kitchen prior to their arrival but there are layers upon layers of dog hair here . . . just no way to get rid of it all . . . probably stirred it all up during the vacuuming, too. Oh well, the house is a tad cleaner because they came.

Jan-it, I'm glad to hear yer dentist concurred wif our diagnosis :P

I also phind that a warm compress helps, as well as gentle massage on the joints.

Ah, bless his heart. He is planning on being a busy lad! Just hand him his "mother's little helper" tools every Saturday morning and say "Thank you so much dear!". :lol:

My sister gave us a ceramic pukeko (native. colorful, . semi-wading bird) which has red iron legs (two) and there are three!!! holes in the bottom of the bird for you to figure out how he is supposed to stand. Of course you nae can have him standing inside unless very!!! deep pile carpet, so next problem is where to put 'im outside where the wind wont blow the poor wee fellow away on his long red stilty legs which just insert somehow into his body :o In our climate I will need to glue them in and tie him down, I reckon. For example, when I started this it was a calm sunny morning; now there is rain spattering on the windows and the wood pigeon on the telephone wire is clinging on for dear life in the face of a howling south-wester :rolleyes:

T'is cruise ship season, and every other day another unsuspecting shipload of visitors disgorges on our shores, not knowing wotinell to expect. Yesterday, the Vollendam with 2000 passengers descended on poor wee Stewart Island, way down at the bottom (nearest the Antarctic) and this same southerly bluster greeted them. At least Oban is on the leeward side. All 600 residents set out to make these folks feel welcome and enjoy the wonders of a pristine environment, and apparently a good time was had by all (pictures on telly of Americans eating crayfish and fish and chips, and of a lone 13-year-old lad serenading them ashore from the tender with his ukelele singing a slightly out-of-tune song--quite sweet really :rolleyes: )

      Hi Christiana, Many thanks for your response.  Interestingly, I too cannot eat wheat in France without feeling effects (much less than in the US, but won't indulge nonetheless).  I also understand children are screened for celiac in Italy prior to starting their education. Wise idea as it seems my grandson has the beginning symptoms (several celiacs in his dad's family), but parents continue to think he's just being difficult.  Argh.  There's a test I took that diagnosed gluten sensitivity in 2014 via Entero Labs, and am planning on having done again.  Truth be told, I'm hoping it's the bromine/additives/preservatives as I miss breads and pastas terribly when home here in the states!  Be well and here's to our guts healing ❤️

      Lol that’s so true! Hope you get clarity, it’s tough when there’s doubt. There’s so much known about celiac disease with all the scientific research that’s been done so far yet practically and clinically there’s also so much unknown, still. Out of curiosity what’s her dairy consumption like? Even compared to early years to now? Has that changed? Calcium is dependent in the mechanism of antigen presenting cells in the gut. High calcium foods with gluten grains can initiate inflammation greater.  This is why breakfast cereals and milk combo long term can be a ticking time bomb for genetically susceptible celiacs (not a scientific statement by any means but my current personal opinion based on reasoning at present). Milk and wheat are the top culprits for food sensitivity. Especially in childhood. There are also patient cases of antibodies normalising in celiac children who had milk protein intolerance/ delayed type allergy. Some asymptomatic. There were a couple of cases of suspected celiacs that turned out to have milk protein intolerance that normalised antibodies on a gluten containing diet. Then there were others that only normalised antibodies once gluten and milk was eliminated. Milk kept the antibodies positive. Celiac disease is complicated to say the least.

      And thank you for your encouragement. I am glad that her body is doing a good job fighting it. I also just want clarity for her moving forwards. She was only 6 for the last round of testing and she's 10 now, so I'm also hoping that makes a difference. It was weird during her last round of testing though, because right before her biopsy, we'd upped her gluten intake by giving her biscuits made from straight up vital wheat gluten, and her labs actually normalized slightly (lower ttg and her ema went negative). Bodies just do weird things sometimes! lol

      The first negative biopsy in 2021 just said "no pathological change" for all the samples, and the second one in 2022 said "Duodenal mucosa with mild reactive change (focal foveolar metaplasia) and preserved villous architecture." So I think Marsh score 0 in both cases, though it's not actually written in the pathology reports. I'm really hoping to get a clear positive result this time, just for her sake.

      Hopefully the biopsy gives a conclusive and correct diagnosis for your daughter. Im in the UK and have been in the situation a few years ago of trying to rule celiac in or out after inconclusive results. Many symptoms pointing to it including the classic symptoms and weight loss and folate and iron deficiency. You have to play a waiting game. I also had the label of IBS and likely food allergy. Genetic test showed low risk for celiac but not no risk. It sounds like the Gastroenterologist is on it and hopefully will diagnose what it is correctly. Food hypersensitivity (allergy) can also cause similar symptoms and inflammation as well as mimicking IBS. Milk / dairy and wheat (cereal grains) being the biggest culprits. The “oesophagitis” and “gastritis” you mentioned can be caused by another gastrointestinal disorder called “eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders”. These are named depending on which part of the gastrointestinal tract is affected. For example eosinophilic oesophagitis, eosinophilic gastritis, eosinophilic gastroenteritis, and more rare eosinophilic colitis. They are antigen (allergen) driven. When the blood test measuring anti-ttg antibodies is positive in absence of a positive ema test - which is more specific to celiac, this can also suggest food hypersensitivity (allergy). Usually delayed type allergy similar to celiac but not autoimmune if that makes sense. In this case the ttg antibodies are transient. Which happens. I’ve first hand experience. For info, evidence of villous atrophy too can be caused by food hypersensitivity. Not just by celiac disease. In Egid disorders the six food elimination diet, under a dietitian and gastroenterologist care, is the dietary protocol to figure out the culprit or culprits. Sometimes only two food elimination diet is used at first. The number one culprit is milk protein / dairy. Followed by wheat, eggs, soy, fish and seafood, and nuts. Most are only reactive to one food group or two. Most are only reactive to milk. Hope this is a helpful reply.
