Municipal (civic) elections were held today in Ontario. The weather in Toronto was expected to be rainy, but after a dank early morning the sun came out.

Polls closed an hour and a half ago, and it seems that voter turnout in Toronto was higher than expected.

A sea shift will take place at Silly Hall, as fiscal conservatives throw the socialists out. The incumbent mayor did not run, having ruined his chances with the 2009 garbage strike. His antithesis, who campaigned to "stop the gravy train at city hall," has won by a good margin. It will be a very different city over the next four years. :)

I can probably handle the polynomials . . . I can probably get you through most if not all of high school math. Sorry Jess, only had a smidgen of stats (although I did think it looked interesting) and can nae help you. I do love made up statistics as Smackl does it ALL the time . . . I think he thinks he sounds like an expert when he says stuff like "About 72% of dogs dream about rabbits" . . . and who am I to contradict him?

Liar; Damned Liar; Expert Witness.

Lie; Damned Lie; Statistic.

Statistical analysis is much more than reporting that a hitter batted .240. The maths are very complex, and although I grew up with not one, but two parents who were professionals in the field, I still don't grasp confidence intervals. I wonder at times whether "standard deviation" is an oxymoron.

I'm afraid the opposite will be true, here. Our fiesty, fiscally conservative, give-the-unions-hell businessman mayor was solidly defeated by a liberal, a career politician who was the right-hand man to Dalton McGuinty as a provincial minister.

Dear gawd.. .. .......my braaaaaaiiin.. . ........

A confidence interval is something I do not experience enough in my life. Is this not an episode where I can suddenly walk into my boss's office and demand more money, or step onto the scales and look brazenly down at the numbers, no peeking out from my fingers? And standard deviation. . .. . ....well, likely plenty o' THAT happening in me life... . . . . .... . <_<

The confidence interval is the time between when the relatives start showing up for thanksgiving dinner, and when you discover that you forgot to turn the oven on that morning.

HI all

It's been weeks since I've been on but have been reading along at times.

Jess, hear good things are happening to you last page i read

Wish our elections were over here. Nothing on TV but the adds bashing each other.

MIL, comments above just crack me up.......'well according to her your going to Hell anyway, what have you got to lose"

what I want to know is ................were is the sun in sunny CA.cool.gifph34r.gif Haven't seen it for weeks. Just the marine layer hovering over head.

Things are good here and still settling in. Jim and I went to Anza Borrego Desert for a couple of days and it was so great to get away. Jim took a photography class and nite astronomy session. While he was filling his brain with knowledge, I was laying by the pool :) We left the desert at 95 degrees and sunny and got home 1 1/2 hrs later to gloom and 62 degrees and drizzle. It's amazing how the weather changes here. I'm still in augh of our new area.

Not much else to report but still read along.tongue.gif

Have ye ever tried singin "Blow Gabriel Blow" from Anything Goes in here presence? I think maybe the reaction would be priceless...

(Love Anything Goes btw)

Until, that is, the prince and his wife appeared. And apparently I got in a fight with the princess. Soon our wigs flew off and started fightin each other. And then all the mens canes came attacking me....

I didn't know my MIL understood English for the first three years of my marriage. Of course once I took care of her when she got sick it was a different story. Man, do I miss her paella and empanadas (though I'm sure they weren't gluten-free). Holidays at our house are tame because it's just the 3 of us and sometimes my brother and SIL.

Ooh yay! Royal Coronation! Gimme Gimme! I want a crown with amethyst and emerald gems on it, silver please! As for the jester though, I don't know if I need one, I can entertain quite well... or So I am told. (Probably because I scare easily, or I fall standing still, or walls keep jumping out at me, Or I mix up my words/sentences)

The dreams I can remember are often quite....interesting... You should hear the nightmare I had the other day... (And I'd wake up, go back to sleep and it would just continue. That never happens, except for this time.

Once upon a time, a family sat down for an evening meal. But it was no ordinary meal, it was a meal to introduce one of the daughter's beau to the entire family. But the Beau was late. So one daughter goes up to check on him. (Me in the dream, it was supposedly my family but everyone looked really different and I suddenly had a lot more sisters and no brothers) She finds him in the shower pinned against the wall, and blood dripping down. (Oh and of course shower is still running) I scream and my sister and father come running up. And somehow the scene changes and I am in my bedroom. "Father" demonstrates to my sister what would have happened by throwing daggers at me. (Here is the first time I wake up) On another occasion, a fire starts in our house, or something similar, and so everyone evacuates. But apparently one of my sisters never made it out. So "Father" goes back in to find her. And then we hear maniacal laughter before the house blows up. Its here we realize "Father" killed the beau and my sister and made the house explode. (Wake up number two) After this we end up roaming the alleys near where we live, and some ladies end up chasing us. They apparently are wanting one of my sisters (told you I have a lot of sisters.) Soon we end up in an alley where there are a lot of look alikes to my sister the women are after. We lose my sister and thus have to find her. The ladies corner us and ask her to help them find her in the alley of look alikes. The only way to tell which is our sister is by her shoes, she has a very distinct pair of shoes. But its still hard because everyone has shoes similar to hers. (My sister's shoes were black heeled sneaker type shoes with criss-crossing bands.) So finally we find someone who looks like my sister, but isn't and tell the women its her. Meanwhile we look for my sister. After finding her, we run away, hoping to outrun our pursuers. (wake up 3) We then end up in some discount department store, and the women figured out that it wasn't my sister we pointed out to them, and now they are pursuing us in the store. We mad dash down aisles, and such trying to dodge them. Finally we all (I am not sure how we fit four girls) hide in one of those round clothing racks. The women look and look in our rack but somehow we are all able to move away from where they are looking. (Final wake up.)

And Jess, yes my first dream = VERY Alice in Wonderlandish.

Good thing you don't watch the movies that Superman and I do (or should I call him Clark when not saving the word). Their plots sound like your dream. Stay away from haunted houses this weekend. We're going to the Bates Haunted Motel. Supposedly two ships wrecked on the beach near our house in the 1600s and one of the Captains took up residence in the Motel. Last year we went to a haunted penitently in Philly.

Hi Katht -  I sympathize with your struggles in following a gluten-free diet and lifestyle. I found out that I had Celiac Disease a few months before I turned 70. I just turned 89 and it has taken me almost 20 years to attain a fairly normal intestinal  function. I also lost a lot of weight, down to 100 lb. down from about 140 lb. What Trents wrote you was very true for me. I am still elimination foods from my diet. One person suggested you keep a food diary and that is a good idea but it is probably best just to do an elimination diet. There are several ne and maybe one for celiacs. I used one for a while and started with plain rice and zucchini and then added back other foods to see if I reacted or not. That helped a great deal but what I did not realise that it would only very small amounts of some foods to cause inflammation in my intestine. Within the last few years I have stopped eating any trace amounts of hot peppers, corn and soy(mostly in supplements) and nuts, (the corn in Tylenol was giving me stomach aches and the nuts were causing foot pains). Starting an elimination diet with white rice is better than brown rice that has some natural toxins. In addition it is very important to drink sufficient plain water. You can find out how much to drink for your height and weight online. I do have difficulty drinking 48 ounces of water but just recently have found an electrolyte supplement that helps me stay well hydrated, Adding the water and electrolytes may reduce muscle cramps and gag spams you wrote about. . Also buy some anti-gluten enzyme capsules to take with meals. I use GliadinX advertised here. These are a lot of things to do at one time as they reflect my 20 years of experience. I hope you do what you can manage to do over time. Good luck and take care.

Hi all !! Did anyone ever get prescribed methylprednisone steroids for inflammation of stomach and intestines?  Did it work ??  Thank you !!
    • cristiana
Hi Colleen Are you supplementing B12/having injections? I have learned recently that sometimes when you start addressing a B12 deficiency, it can temporarily make your symptoms worse.  But it is important not to stop the treatment.  Regarding your problems with anxiety, again that is another symptom of a B12 deficiency.   I didn't know what anxiety was until it hit me like a train several months before gastrointestinal issues began, so I can certainly relate.   Two books which helped me hugely were At Last A Life by Paul David (there is a website you can look up) and The Depression Cure: The Six-Step Programme to Beat Depression Without Drugs by Dr Steve Llardi.  Although his book is aimed at people who have depression, following the principals he sets out was so helpful in lessening my anxiety.  Llardi suggests we need to focus on getting enough: - physical exercise - omega-3 fatty acids - natural sunlight exposure - restorative sleep - social connectedness - meaningful, engaging activity   ... and we should feel a lot better. That is not to stay you must stop taking medication for depression or anxiety if you have been prescribed it, but adopting the changes Dr Llardi sets out in the book should really help. Can I just ask two more questions:  1) you say that you are B12 deficient, did they test your iron levels too?  If not, you really ought to be checked for deficiency and, 2) did they check your thyroid function, as an overactive thyroid can be cause rapid heartbeat and a lot of coeliacs have thyroid issues? Hello still dancing around my celiac disease and not getting medically backed up considering Ive been glutenfree since 1994.All my ailments are the core issue of my ghost disease aka celiac disease. Im angery because the "celiac specialist " basically lightly dismissed me.Im extremely angery and fighting for a new primary care physician which is hard to do in Northern Cali.So currently without and looking.Im angery that its lightly taken when its extremely serious to the one who has it.My only evidence is a brochure back in the days when I got news letters when I lived at my parents. It was published in 1998.I was diagnosed before any foods eliminated from my diet. Angery doctors don't take seriously when Im clearly speaking.I did write to the medicine of congress and have case number.
