The only movie that's ever freaked me out as a kid, and still does is the Disney movie Watcher in the Woods. Freakin' FREAKY!!!!

Gawd, some severe dating of meselph, here.. . . . there has only been one movie that absolutely terrified me as a child: When I was about four, my sister and her boyfriend let me come along to the drive-in to se (the original -- probably 1970) Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I have very few concrete memories from that age, but I recall perfectly the scene that had me suddenly screaming in fear, causing my sister to have to rush to the backseat and try to console me. No goin'.. .. .I was screaming, crying, hyperventilating. . ...they finally had to start the car up and go home, where I proceeded to have nightmares for many sleeps afterwards... . ..

It was the scene where the fat little bratty kid falls into the vat of chocolate and disappears into the processing machine.

Dear gawd.. . . . ...I still get a little.. ...... ..anxious.. . .. ....jus' thinking about it.... .. ...

Cannae see Giann-knits clip 'cos me computer runs like crap 'Shockwave flash has crashed' ...

Shockwave Flash. . . . .....this is a perimenopausal incident, methinks, no?

I also remain bumfoozled re. the butter/jam phenomenon. . . .... . rather the same puzzle exists for me with Marmite/Vegemite... . . ....does it go on toast? Does one melt a spoonful of it into a mug of hot water and drink it? (DH does this........dunno if it is proper protocol).. . . . .

With Gene Wilder??

I found it disturbing at the time!!

Shockwave Flash. . . . .....this is a perimenopausal incident, methinks, no?

GADS, I suspect it is....although we Brits 'Flush' not 'flash' wink.gif

Personally I buttter the toast them put jam on (NOT jelly, so we're clear)

OR, a dollop of jam on rice pudding....... or just straight out of the jar (Nom, nom!) tongue.gif

Marmite or vegemite straight on the toast... potentially a tea spoon in a cup of boiling water.

Glad we cleared that up!! laugh.gif

HEY, Gnick! Looks fab! Are you doing the 10K?

Aye. I am smile.gif

Spent most of the day debating what to wear for it...long sleeve, layers, short sleeves?, long running tights??

I need to travel 30 mins on the train to get there (bloomin' chilly in the morning) but get hideously hot when I run

GAH!

Proper protocol is to throw it in the garbage (where it belongs) or don't bring it home in the phirst place :P Disgusting stuphhh!!

kareng Grand Master

Warning: very unpsilly stuff ahead!

We were eliminated. Our robot did OK but not as well as it should have in the last rounds. That's probably the hardest part for J to take- his last robotics match and he didn't do his best. Glad hub was here, I couldn't talk to J without crying. It's really hard to see your big strong son in tears. The 2 girls on the team he has known the longest were looking at him helplessly. I'll try to be silly later.

etta694 Explorer

I have to preface that I hadn't read Karengs post when I wrote the rest of this... I have a 15 yr old.. that's too bad, I feel for you both.

This is in response to the earlier psilly pstuff.

Bwahahahaha!   I try to keep quiet and behave but you guys crack me up!!!

Princess Bride.... ma fav.. and now? UHF (of course) :P

(should I be havin a Canadgen accent? I know, eh..

:( Man.. . . . . your poor boy. His team did SO well, though! But I know....it just ain't the same as takin' the whole thing.

DD's competitive hockey team is in their final tournament this weekend. For Sophie this is big, as it likely is the last comp hockey tourney she will ever be in. We play tonight, and if we win it's the semi-final game tomorrow morning, and then the gold medal game @ 4:00. She REALLY wants to make it to the end, too!

When I was posting I thought, " Em & Sophie will know how we feel.". He is better. He is drinking a $5 Mt Dew and eating $3 peanut M&Ms. When he was little, we called it "the chocolate cure".

Sorry to hear the news Karenne. Glad the chocolate cure is helping . . . I know it helps me all the time . . . even when I don't need to be cured of anything.

Good luck to ya, Knick . . . Can nae run anymore, me knees are about 50 years older than the rest of me body . . . perhaps if I ate more chocolate???

So, this evening we had the annual charade known as "Earth Hour."

Here in Ontario, our electricity is produced primarily by hydro dams and nuclear stations, both of which emit no carbon gases. Only a tiny fraction of our power comes from emission-producing fossil fuel sources.

So, apparently this evening many Ontarians turned off their emission-free electric lights and LIT CANDLES! Candles are made from paraffin, a wax derived 100% from fossil fuels.

So, to protest carbon emissions, they turned off their emission-free electric lamps, and lit carbon-emitting candles. Huh? Why don't we fight for peace? Or, maybe, drink to sobriety?

etta694 Explorer

Yes, if the latent power hidden within our community could be harnessed.. but "Methane is a relatively potent greenhouse gas." ... and dangerous around candles... :o

psawyer Proficient

Hmm, Etta, those weren't the emissions that I was thinking of, but I think maybe I should keep upwind.

But you have to admit, PeOter, that they are the emissions most often discussed here :P:lol:

fphwahhaha... unfortunately... Yer 2 days downwind.. oh.. there's been a disturbance in... the force..

OooOOh, PoOeter, don't get me started!

Earth Hour... .. . . .dear gawd. Ontario produces large surpluses of energy, quite regularly. And what is Ontario regulated to do with this extra energy that we are so strongly urged NOT to use? We must PAY the province of Quebec and New York State to take it off our hands. PAY THEM. In December of 2010 we paid New York and Quebec 53 million dollars to take our extra power.

:angry::angry:

I turned on every single light in and around my house last evening during Earth Hour.

Okay... . ...enough political speeling.......

Carry on!

He is not just a psychiatrist.  He is also a neuroscientist.  And yes, I have already read those studies.   I agree with benfotiamine.  This is short term while glutened/inflammation occurs.  As I had already mentioned, these symptoms no longer exist when this phase passes.  And yes, I know that celiac is a disease of malnutrition.  We are working with a naturopath.

Please do more research before you settle on nicotine. Dr. Paul New house is a psychiatrist.  His latest study involves the effect of nicotine patches on Late Life Depression which has reached no long term conclusions about the benefits.   Effects of open-label transdermal nicotine antidepressant augmentation on affective symptoms and executive function in late-life depression https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39009312/   I'm approaching the subject from the Microbiologist's point of view which shows nicotine blocks Thiamine B1 uptake and usage:   Chronic Nicotine Exposure In Vivo and In Vitro Inhibits Vitamin B1 (Thiamin) Uptake by Pancreatic Acinar Cells https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26633299/   While supplementation with thiamine in the form Benfotiamine can protect from damage done by  nicotine: Benfotiamine attenuates nicotine and uric acid-induced vascular endothelial dysfunction in the rat https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18951979/   I suggest you study the beneficial effects of Thiamine (Benfotiamine and TTFD) on the body and mental health done by Dr. Derrick Lonsdale and Dr. Chandler Marrs.  Dr. Lonsdale had studied thiamine over fifty years.   Hiding in Plain Sight: Modern Thiamine Deficiency https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8533683/ I suggest you read their book Thiamine Deficiency Disease, Dysautonomia, and High Calorie Malnutrition.     Celiac Disease is a disease of malabsorption causing malnutrition.  Thiamine and benfotiamine: Focus on their therapeutic potential https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10682628/

Thanks for your response.  Everything you mentioned he is and has been doing.  Tobacco is not the same as nicotine.  Nicotine, in the form of a patch, does not cause gastrointestinal irritation.  Smoking does. He is not smoking.  Please do your research before stating false information. Dr. Paul Newhouse has been doing research on nicotine the last 40 years at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Im so frustrated and still getting the run around trying to reprove my celiac disease which my past primary ignored for 25 years.I understand that theres a ray of medical that doctors are limited too but not listening and telling the patient ( me) that im not as sensitive as I think and NOT celiac!Correction Mr white coat its not what I think but for cause and affect and past test that are not sticking in my medical records.I get sick violently with foods consumed, not eating the foods will show Im fabulous. After many blood draws and going through doctors I have the HLA- DQ2 positive which I read in a study that Iran conducted that the severity in celiac is in that gene.Im glutenfree and dealing with related issues which core issue of celiac isn't addressed. My skin, right eye, left leg diagestive issues affected. I have high blood pressure because im in pain.Im waisting my time on trying to reprove that Im celiac which is not a disease I want, but unfortunately have. It  has taken over my life personally and professionally. How do I stop getting medically gaslight and get the help needed to bounce back if I ever do bounce back to normal? I thought I was in good care with " celiac specialist " but in her eyes Im good.Im NOT.Sibo positive, IBS, Chronic Fatigue just to name a few and its all related to what I like to call a ghost disease ( celiac) since doctors don't seem to take it seriously.
