I could use a mammoth erection over here... Did I just say that out loud??

:lol::lol:

I SAW these!!! I wanted to buy them SOOOOOOOOO bad!!! Jesse hates flannel sheets, so he'd HATE them! <_<

Feel Better Lady!!

As of this morning I'm down 17#. Will have the thyroid checked tomorrow. I am able to eat now though. Energy and mood is all good. Maybe I have a tapeworm.... :P

I'm so happy to hear that you're able to eat now. It's funny - with all of the tests I've had I've never had my thyroid checked (perhaps no reason to check it).

Clark just came home from being away for four days and he has two possible connections that would allow him to work from home (or do minor traveling).

So he just gets home and tonight is my sleep study. I've had some surgeries and intense tests but this study scares me more than all of them put together.

Please say a prayer.

I'll let you know how the study goes. unsure.gifunsure.gifunsure.gif

Love,

Loey

Did you know that if you search this sight for "sweet potato" there are 1610 posts about them? (1611 now).

I was trying to find the one Jess gave me last year. You put them in a crockpot with orange juice. They were very good.

I am having a devil of a time figuring out Thanksgiving this year. My mother is supposed to eat extra low sodium. The regular low sodium diet is twice as much sodium. the problem is that she won't not eat it if its being served. Everyone else will be pissed that we aren't having Au gratin potatoes or some other cheeseful sodium laden dish.

Then my Bro who lives in Oregon and rarely communicates with any of us, sends an email last week "Oh, Don't know if I told you, we will be in town for Thanskgiving". They go to his wife's family's house in town. I really don't want them over as she has many food allergies, real & imagined. If she doesn't care for a food, she is allergic to it.

I am thinking of running away from home.

Hmm... . . ..wonder how many posts turn up when you search the forum for "penis" or "teabagging" or "David Hasselhoff"? And I wonder where the posts would be concentrated? .. .... . ...<_<:lol:

Kherrighnne, you can only do so much when you're preparing a big meal for countless people -- I would take the low sodium into account, but beyond that you cannot cater to people's myriad "perhaps' allergies. As celiacs we're all there -- if you have trouble with a common food/-ingredient, you need to bring some of your OWN food just in case, and to take the pressure off the overworked cook. I always do this and never feel put out at all.

I got 82 rsults for the Hoff.

What she does is ask for a PB &J at the end of a meal she doesn't eat. Similiar to J who can be a bit picky.

And if my BIL doesn't like it, he can take the $1000+ my parents have given them over the last 3 years for a new oven and buy one! Then invite everyone over there! I am happy to bring my own plate and something to share.

Hub & I were saying we would really rather have lasgna. Not very low sodium but I could balance it out over the whole meal.

Send a polite email reminding him that whatever SIL brings for herself needs to be low sodium for Mum. :)

Can you create a lower sodium version of the potatoes? I found this site: Open Original Shared Link talking about cheeses. Maybe you can practice some cheese sauces combining mozzarella, salt free cottage cheese, and some cheddar to see if you can get something tasty that's reasonably low in sodium.

It says fresh Moz is low sodium. I think we are getting an argument for lasgna. Except SIL only does dairy if chocolate is envolved. I'm hoping they will be eating with her family & just come over to visit.

Honestly, Bro is not on my good list right now. My dad has prostate cancer. My mom has an aortic valve that barely funtions with a 50% chance of surving another year. He won't call them or answer thier emails. Obviously, he isn't going to dr appts or sending a 15 yr old over to clean gutters or cut up tree branches.

End of rant. Jess- do you remember the sweet potatoes?

Hub saw me getting outta the shower last night. His exact words were: "Oh. My. God." I'm 5'11' and I'm down to 157. I'm not sure I think I look good! But my favorite jeans fit! :P

That sounds like a great plan! We're trying to talk my grandma into pitching in and ordering pizzas for Christmas Eve. She always works too hard and then b%$@#es about it!

I promise that if your parents ever give me $1000 I will buy an oven!!! . . . and have you over for dinner (gluten free AND low sodium)!!!

I found these:

pile the peeled, sliced, taters and yams in the crockpot along with chopped onion and some orange slices. A bit of orange zest is good too, if you like the surprise 'zing' of serious orange flavor while you're eating. You could also add some pie apples, but maybe halfway through cooking so they don't get mushy.

Cook on low for ~6 hours (check them for done-ness at about 4). When done, stir in a few slices of cooked, crumbled bacon (or sprinkle it over the top in the serving dish).

I peel the orange and limit the amount of zest 'cause I don't really like the shock of the intense orange flavor. Maybe dried zest would be a little easier, or just skip it. You could flavor after cooking with a splash of orange liqueur if it needed a bit more. Some people put some orange concentrate in, but I don't like it too juicy.

Looked fer those....couldn't find them.

That's it! Thanks! I will not use the zest if I make them. They got bitter the next day & i think zest might be why.

I think its very convienent to not have a working oven. Can't have anyone over. I think I thought about disabling mine last year.

So yesterday I had to go over the hill to get my hair cut (too short! :( )and just before I start the climb I come up behind this WIIIIIIIDE LOAD truck transporting a brand new building munching machine into the city from the port. They don't normally use my road, but this was too wiiiide for the tunnel, and too wiiiide and loooong to go over the other pass (would have never made it round the switchbacks) and it couldln't go over Evans Pass because that is still closed because boulders keep falling down on it every time there is an aftershock. So there I was chomping at the bit as this thing crawled up MY road taking up the whole width of the road and going about 4mph. And it was all shiny and new and yellow but pretty soon it would be out in the tomato patch like all the other building munching hornworms, wreaking destruction and loving every minute of it whilst its cowboy operator would be having the time of his life just tearing things down as little boys like to do. I suppose it's just as well we have men because I couldn't be out there munching up all those lovely buildings - not permitted on my diet :P When I eventually arrived at my parking lot just after twelve, I asked the parking fairy to make a place for me, and I got the last one in the lot. By the time I got out of my car at least six vehicles were circling  And my hair is still too short!!!!

kareng Grand Master

My dad was excited to tell me he got 3 tattoos today of a religious nature! If I posted a pic of them, I would be banned.

He had his first radiation treatment for prostate cancer. They tattoo little crosses to help line up the radiation machine correctly. He is finding the whole thing quite interesting. :D

But, unfortunately.....Shroomie's hair is too short!

Hey, all you parents out there, RELAX!!! No need to worry about the kiddies getting their veggies in the schoo lunch program. The US House of Representatives voted today declaring pizza to be a vegetable (providing it has at least two tablespons of tomato paste!!) Hurray for pizza and french fries, the school veggie staples.

I read something about that in the newspaper. Wow, that makes me feel so much better. So my question is: Is that two tablespoons per slice or per pie? Either way, it's probably gross and I'm glad my kids can't eat it...

It's been a fun couple days here. Butch has learned that toilet lids can be up, or down, and I have learned that Butch can jump up to the stove - and likes eggs.

I need me some of that veggie-laden pizza.

If I dip my french fries in ketchup am I getting two servings?

And thanks for all the birthday wishes

Oh wow! Thanks for this information! I’m going to try the Benfotiamine again and will also add a B-complex to my supplements. Presently, I just take sublingual B12 (methylcobalomin). Is supplementation for celiacs always necessary even though you remain gluten-free and you’re healing as shown on endoscopy? I also take D3, mag glycinate, and try to get calcium through diet. I am trying to bump up my energy level because I don’t sleep very well and feel fatigued quite often. I’m now hopeful that adding the Benfotiamine and B-complex will help. I really appreciate your explanation and advice! Thanks again Knitty Kitty!

@Hmart, The reason why your intestinal damage was so severe, yet your tTg IgA was so minimal can be due to cutting back on gluten (and food in general) due to worsening symptoms.  The tTg IgA antibodies are made in the intestines.  While three grams of gluten per day for several weeks are enough to cause gastrointestinal symptoms, ten grams of gluten per day for for several weeks are required to provoke sufficient antibody production so that the antibodies move out of the intestines and into the blood stream where they can be measured in blood tests.  Since you reduced your gluten consumption before testing, the antibody production went down and did not leave the intestines, hence lower than expected tTg IgA.   Still having abdominal pain and other symptoms this far out is indicative of nutritional deficiencies.  With such a severely damaged small intestine, you are not absorbing sufficient nutrients, especially Thiamine Vitamin B 1, so your body us burning stored fat and even breaking down muscle to fuel your body.   Yes, it is a very good idea to supplement with vitamins and minerals during healing.  The eight essential B vitamins are water soluble and easily lost with diarrhea.  The B vitamins all work together interconnectedly, and should be supplemented together.  Taking vitamin supplements provides your body with greater opportunity to absorb them.  Thiamine and the other B vitamins cannot be stored for long, so they must be replenished every day.  Thiamine tends to become depleted first which leads to Gastrointestinal Beriberi, a condition that doctors frequently fail to recognize.  Symptoms of Gastrointestinal Beriberi are abdominal pain and nausea, but neuropathy can also occur, as well as body and joint pain, headaches and more.  Heart rhythm disruptions including tachycardia are classic symptoms of thiamine deficiency.  Heart attack patients are routinely administered thiamine now.   Blood tests for vitamins are notoriously inaccurate.  You can have "normal" blood levels, while tissues and organs are depleted.  Such is the case with Gastrointestinal Beriberi, a thiamine deficiency in the digestive tract.  Eating a diet high in carbohydrates, like rice, starches, and sugar, can further deplete thiamine.  The more carbohydrates one eats, the more thiamine is required per calorie to turn carbs into energy.  Burning stored fats require less thiamine, so in times of thiamine shortage, the body burns fat and muscles instead.  Muscle wasting is a classic symptoms of thiamine deficiency.  A high carbohydrate diet may also promote SIBO and/or Candida infection which can also add to symptoms.  Thiamine is required to keep SIBO and Candida in check.   Thiamine works with Pyridoxine B 6, so if Thiamine is low and can't interact with Pyridoxine, the unused B 6 accumulates and shows up as high.   Look into the Autoimmune Protocol diet.  Dr. Sarah Ballantyne is a Celiac herself.  Her book "The Paleo Approach" has been most helpful to me.  Following the AIP diet made a huge improvement in my symptoms.  Between the AIP diet and correcting nutritional deficiencies, I felt much better after a long struggle with not feeling well.   Do talk to your doctor about Gastrointestinal Beriberi.  Share the article linked below. Thiamine, gastrointestinal beriberi and acetylcholine signaling https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12014454/ Keep us posted on your progress!

Thanks, that's a great addition that I hadn't thought of.

Other diseases, medical conditions, medications and even (for some people) some non-gluten foods can cause villous atrophy. There is also something called refractory celiac disease but it is pretty uncommon.
    • trents
knitty kitty asks a very relevant question. So many people make the mistake of experimenting with the gluten free diet or even a reduced gluten diet soon before getting formally tested.
