She lives up in the Yukon, so that territory can deal with her driving infractions. One should think that the Alaska Highway would be the safest thoroughfare to place a hapless driver -- long stretches of straight, flat road, reasonable speed limit -- she has, however, managed to take out guard rails and First Nations elders portaging along the shoulder.. . . . ..

She rarely takes either of our cars out, now........and the kids wear full hockey gear when they do head out with her.

Maybe your daughter could drive when they are out together? MIL can wear the pads!

Went to my bro's house for Christmas eve. Their friends the Jo(h)ns were there already helping set up dinner. Jon looks at me and says "John was baking all day making gluten free lady fingers for your tiramisu" and John looks over from the sink and smiles.

Hope those of you who do Christmas Eve had a lovely celebration. :) Hugs and hearts to all!

Merry Christmas!

Cooper, the dog, went to visit my mom yesterday. She really liked seeing him. He went in & put his head over her lap & greeted her before he greeted my dad. He always favors my dad as he is the one that feeds & walks him when they dog- sit. We went out to the lobby area to sit & he walked by my Mom's chair & lay down part of the time by her feet. She kept saying, " He usually favors your dad. Why is he paying so much attention to me?". He was quite a hit with the male nurses, too. I think he really cheered her up.

Well, I am not used to eating rich food (not that I pigged out ;) ) but had the most disturbed sleep what with aftershocks and indigestion, and the DREAMS!

Jestgar Rising Star

well, no earthquakes, but I also slept poorly. Had a storm blow through and took out the power for a couple hours so I used the opportunity to have a wee nap on the couch. :P

Having a lovely low-key day reading Harry Potter and snuggling kitties.

I started reading my new David Baldacchi hair-raiser - hub knows what to get me  I live such a dull life I love to read about the craziness and gore that I could be surrounded with, but am not :D (Well, except for the detestable creep who raped a five-year-old tourist little girl from Belgium - where do these creeps crawl out from??):angry: And at Christmas, no less!!! A pox on all paedophiles!!! And a life sentence, except New Zealand does not do that - we are too enlightened

Sorry, resume your Christmas joy

Mmmmmmm.....the day after Christmas.....love it!

Just chillin' in front of the TV, crossword puzzle, leftovers, and now getting ready to cuddle up with a book.

Oh....and the best part......hit the after Christmas sales this morning with a few gift cards :D

Christmas never fails to stress me out, even though I have greatly reduced my expectations of myself, so I'm always glad when it's over. Only bought a few gifts for family......nothing for each other. No big dinner...just munchies.

This Christmas was extra special, though, with little Lexi, just turned 2....her first Christmas that she can really express herself. We got her a tricycle and wrapped it up. When she saw the big present she put her widdle hands to her cheeks and said "Oh my!". And when she opened it she danced around shouting "A cycle! A cycle!"

Doesn't get much better than that ^_^

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas :)

Well, I'm late to the party but wanted to wish you all a Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays.

Just got back from Florida tonight (Christmas at my MIL's). Our drama consisted of me mailing almost all of our gifts for the kids to FL ahead of time because it would be too hard to take everything on the plane. The package was suppose to arrive on the 19th of December. It showed up about 3pm on the 24th. Gah!!!

Patti, did I know you had a Tyler Kitteh? What a beauty!!

Karen, how sweet is your Cooper??

Rache, hang tough . . . we got yer back.

Jess, impressive international contacts . . . and good luck with that grad school stuff. (ps, your nuts.)

Lo, here's to a better year, huh? Keep up the good attitude, it's inspiring.

Nik, where the hell you been? . . . don't forget to come back and slap us around on the 1st.

Shroom, just keep hanging on . . . they make plastic wine glasses, you know.

Em, really? Didn't we tell you once to bubble wrap the house?. . . or was that the car?

. . . and everyone else . . . a big hello.

You were in Florida and came back HERE?

Hope you got your fill of sunshine while you were there.

.....and I hope you didn't pay extra for those packages to arrive 5 days late! <_<

Wavy "Hi" Janet! Santa came through with your gifts on time! ;) Hope you had a wonderful holiday with your family. AND to everyone else.

We had a great holiday and fun to watch the 9 year old and 2 year old enjoy Santa. The nine year old is waaaaayyyy to smart to give up her notion of Santa. ;)

Wish all a happy and healthy new year and I hope my girls make very smart choices in this new year. :D

Put this in the file of "He doesn't have a clue":

Less than two days after joining Twitter, media mogul Rupert Murdoch appears to have had his first brush with tweeting-before-thinking, after suggesting that the British have too many holidays for a "broke country".

Murdoch - who joined Twitter less than 48 hours ago and already has almost 40,000 followers - quickly deleted the message, but it was preserved by some Twitter users and quickly spread around the website.

"Maybe Brits have too many holidays for broke country!" Murdoch, who is holidaying on the Caribbean holiday island of Saint Barthelemy, wrote about 6am Australian time.

Absolutely no comment

FIRST Robotics season has started! It is a basketball type of game, so that part will be easy to understand. They were given an XBox with a Kinect that they can use for part of the game. I'm glad I don't have to figure all this out!

I was so hoping the game this year would be a bionic digestive system! I guess that could be quite messy.

I believe that most of us on here in fact DO HAVE bionic digestive systems.. . .....destroying, with super-human strength, all things in their paths..... <_<

SO. I have a HUGE, life-altering announcement to make. Just yesterday, the family has been informed that.. . . ......

It seems like you have two choices--do a proper gluten challenge and get re-tested, or just go gluten-free because you already know that it is gluten that is causing your symptoms. In order to screen someone for celiac disease they need to be eating gluten daily, a lot of it--they usually recommend at least 2 slices of wheat bread daily for 6-8 weeks before a blood screening, and at least 2 weeks before an endoscopy (a colonoscopy is no used to diagnose celiac disease). Normally the blood panel is your first step, and if you have ANY positive results there for celiac disease the next step would be to take biopsies of your villi via an endoscopy given by a gastroenterologist.  More info on the blood tests and the gluten challenge beforehand is below: The article includes the "Mayo Clinic Protocol," which is the best overall protocol for results to be ~98% accurate. Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day:   Not to discourage you from a formal diagnosis, but once you are diagnosed it may lead to higher life and medical insurance rates (things will be changing quickly in the USA with the ACA starting in 2026), as well as the need to disclose it on job applications. While I do think it's best to know for sure--especially because all of your first degree relatives should also get screened for it--I also want to disclose some negative possibilities around a formal diagnosis that you may want to also consider.

Yes.  Now, if you hit your finger with a hammer once, wouldn't you do your best not to do it again?  You have identified a direct connection between gluten and pain.  Gluten is your hammer.  Now you have to decide if you need a medical diagnosis.  Some countries have aid benefits tgat you can get if you have the diagnosis, but you must continue eating a gluten-normal diet while pursuing the diagnosis. Otherwise the only reason to continue eating gluten is social. There are over 200 symptoms that could be a result of celiac disease.. Celiac Disease and Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity  both cause multiple vitamin and mineral deficiency.  Dealing with that should help your recovery, even while eating gluten.  Phosphatidyl Choline supplements can help your gut if digesting fats is a problem,  Consider that any medications you take could be causing some of the symptoms, aside from gluten.

Welcome to the forum, @Ben98! If you have been consciously or unconsciously avoiding gluten because of the discomfort it produces then it is likely that your blood antibody testing for celiac disease has been rendered invalid. Valid testing requires regular consumption of generous amounts of gluten. The other strong possibility is that you have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) which shares many of the same symptoms with celiac disease but does not have the autoimmune component and thus does not damage the small bowel lining. It is 10x mor common than celiac disease. There is currently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. Some experts in the field believe it can be a precursor to the development of celiac disease. Having one or both of the primary genes for developing celiac disease does not imply that you will develop active celiac disease. It simply establishes the potential for it. About 40% of the population has the genetic potential but only about 1% develop active celiac disease.

TTG blood test and total IGA tested on many occasions which have always remained normal, upper GI pain under my ribs since 2022. I had an endoscopy in 2023 which showed moderate gastritis. no biopsy’s were taken unfortunately. genetic test was positive for HLADQ2. extreme bloating after eating gluten, it’ll feel like I’ve got bricks in my stomach so uncomfortably full. the pain is like a dull ache under the upper left almost like a stitch feeling after a long walk. I am just wanting some advice has anyone here experienced gastritis with a gluten issue before? thank you

"Conclusions: The urinary iodine level was significantly lower in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis, and iodine replacement may be important in preventing osteoporosis"  Body iodine status in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis Low iodine can cause thyroid problems, but Iodine deficiency will not show up in thyroid tests.  Iodine is important for healing, its job is to kill off defective and aging cells (Apoptosis). Skin, brain fog, nails, muscle tone all inproved when I started taking 600 mcg (RDA 150 - 1000 mcg) of Liquid Iodine drops. Some with dermatitis herpetiformis, Iodine exacerbates the rash.  I started at 1 drop (50 mcg) and worked up to 12 drops, but I don't have dermatitis herpetiformis.
