:lol: Yes, I've noticed this side effect also . . . also the superfluous U that Nikki requires us to use often pops up in me spelling. I leave it "in" on my other board posts but try to remove it on me personal emails and such.

It spills over in me speech too.

Mark has told me that pretty soon I'm gonna phorget how to speak proper English :P

That is a Redheaded Woodpecker (could you have guessed?) They are year round residents here, and you may see them in Penn. in the summer. they like wooded areas. We were thrilled to see them in the yard last summer! :D

Theresa,

I didn't think the rump looked right but i'll get my bird book as we do have them in PA and usually alot at our feeders. We get 4 species + the pilliated which is one of my favorites.

I'm sure your right about the Redheaded being it.

The never could figure out why the redbreasted has the red head too and the breast not so much.

We had a nest and 3 fledgling redbreasted 2 years ago. was fun to watch.

I have photos on another site if you want to see the great photos my hubby took.

i could pm you to photo site.

Judy!!! That is FanParkingTastic!!!!! :D . . . sorry about the backfire tho. :(

Sun is shining here, too . . . we're above freezing . . . YeeHaw!!!

The redbellied woodpecker is one of me favoUrite visitors to my feeder but he doesn't come too often . . . got some new suet two days ago - it has dehydrated bugs in it - I'm hoping to get me bug eaters to visit more often. Anybody have a recommendation on how to get rid of the starlings??? They clean me out. The only thing that seems to work is to let the feeder set empty for a week or so and then they seem to move on. I hate to do it, but the other birds aren't really coming anyway when the starlings are monopolizing the feeder.

OMG I love Amanda Marshall!!! I had her first album that came out.....what was that back in 1996 I think? It was so FABULOUS. Then she kind of disapeared on the music scene here. Good to see her still doing music, such powerful pipes on that girl.

Hi Juudes! Am ALWAYS interested in bird sightings/fotos!! We don't see many of the redheaded around, hence the excitement. Did not ever see any in NY, so this was a new bird for us. We also have red bellied (many) that like our feeders, as well as downies and harries. There are several Pileated that we hear more than we see...but I have some good pics of those, too. Also have sapsuckers and yellow bellies hanging around. We just love it! Not to mention all of the other yard birds here. We like to hike and go birding, but have not had many opportunities since we moved to WV. Something to look forward to.

Jewels.....I know what you mean about losing posts/replies. I'm pretty good at that, too. I can't fight my way out of into a wet majik tryangle

Mail merge is....suppose you have a form letter (labels, postcards, whatevah), that needs to be mailed to many (or even several) people. Rather than retype the letter over and over for each one....you type ONE letter and embed fields into the letter, create a list or table of all the info you need, such as, names, addresses, phone numbers, any information at all. You can even sort the information on the tables in different ways. So, you have one form that you can use over and over by just changing the information in the fields. Now THAT'S Majik! :P

What comes to mind is all of that GJUNK mail we get that has our names and addresses on them. They are not retyping all of those letters...they use mail merge! On a BIIIIGGG skale!

As you can see, I'm catching up piecemeal here. We put out Suet, too. My telehubby made an upside down suet holder so the woodpeckers can eat it, but the other birds (can you say winged rodents?) can't get at it. Fun to watch them try, though. If you have a hopper feeder, you can create an overhang that allows the smaller birds to feed, but crowds the starlings and grackles. They don't seem to like it. No other suggestions come to mind right now. I agree, I hate to let the little guys starve, waiting out the starlings.

Shoot---------

Lost my long post ck'n who said what

who cares really.............

Just wanted to say i so appreciate your kind words and support.

I've quit before for 6 years and then my Dad died suddenly and so............started it again.

then taught 'fresh start' stopping classes at the hospital for 4 years........hell you'd think I'd get it done and over with

I pray this will be it. I got asthmatic bronchitis and had stopped a few days before that but it was too scary to ignore so................just went cold turkey. Being sick did help the few weeks I must say.

I guess you've noticed i haven't been posting much......well I smoked at the computer while talking to me sillies...........it was too hard to sit here at the computer sucking Altoids..........so just avoided the room. Also i knew in CA there wouldn't be a place i could smoke anywhere so just decided it was time.

I sure pray it takes this time. The bad thing is I don't really WANT to quit.........i just don't want to get breathing problems like i had with the asthmatic bronchitis..........so..............that has to be the motivator.

Janet how is your Mom?

Keep asking but did Tom get any news yet on his Mayo tests?

where is Sarah?

Like little peanut Susie q..........he/she is a cutie. glad he's settled in.

Theresa, will send a link in pm

Nikki, have fun in Dad's hospital room. Hope the room mate is deaf or hard of hearing

Judes...hi. I quit for 2 years before we moved. With all of the upheaval and changes I stated back up. It wasn't the first time I quit, either. They say that it often takes a number of times quitting to get it to stick....but if you've quit for 4 years, I KNOW you can do it again. I know what you mean about not wanting to quit. Sometimes (not all of the time) I REALLY enjoy a good smoke! I only smoke outside, and only 1/2 pk or less, so I (try to) convince myself it's not so bad. My Dad quit smoking when he retired (also a "light" smoker). I know he still sneaks one now and then...but he's in his 80's and in excellent health.

Anyway...all I'm trying to say is...I can sympathize...I'm pulling for you and wishing you much strength and good luck! :)

That’s a really insightful observation about antibody testing and the gluten challenge! You’re absolutely right that antibody levels can remain elevated for months or even years after going gluten-free, especially if there’s ongoing cross-contamination or occasional slip-ups. The immune system doesn’t reset overnight—it can take time for antibodies like tTG-IgA to normalize, which is why many doctors recommend waiting at least 6–12 months of strict gluten-free eating before retesting. For someone who’s been gluten-free for less than two years or hasn’t been meticulous about avoiding cross-contact, there’s absolutely a chance they’d still test positive, since even small amounts of gluten can keep antibodies elevated. This is partly why the gluten challenge (where you eat gluten before testing) exists—it’s designed to provoke a measurable immune response in people who’ve been gluten-free long enough for antibodies to drop. But you raise a great point: the challenge isn’t perfect, and false negatives can happen if the timing or amount of gluten isn’t sufficient to trigger a strong antibody response. This is why diagnosis often combines antibody tests with other tools like genetic testing or endoscopy. Your question highlights just how nuanced celiac testing can be! For people with celiac disease hidden gluten in their diets is the main cause of elevated Tissue Transglutaminase IgA Antibodies (tTG-IgA), but there are other conditions, including cow's milk/casein intolerance, that can also cause this, and here is an article about the other possible causes:

Thank you for your response! I have considered starting a food diary in the past, I suppose this is as good a time as any to start.
    • Betsy Crum
I don't have health insurance so I have never had any testing done. I always thought if I stay away from gluten Ill be fine but I suppose that isn't enough anymore. I will look into getting an allergy test. Thank you for your input!
    • trents
I remember reading an article summarizing testing done by Gluten Free Watchdog on several brands of dried lentils. They were all heavily cross contaminated with wheat and the commentary was to the effect that dried lentils in general were the most heavily cross contaminated product category in their testing data base. So, I would definitely not use any dried lentil product that was not tested to be Gluten Free (<20ppm of gluten) or Certified Gluten Free (<10ppm of gluten).
    • Scott Adams
While spices, lentils, beans and chickpeas are naturally gluten-free, the main concern with any brand is cross-contamination during processing and packaging. Since Suraj doesn't appear to certify their products as gluten-free or use dedicated gluten-free facilities, there is some risk of trace gluten exposure, especially with their corn flour which could be milled on shared equipment with gluten-containing grains. For absolute safety, I'd recommend looking for brands that are certified gluten-free by organizations like GFCO - good options include McCormick for spices, TruRoots or Bob's Red Mill for lentils and beans, and Anthony's for corn flour. That said, if you need to use Suraj products, be sure to carefully check labels for any wheat warnings, thoroughly rinse lentils and beans before cooking, and consider contacting the manufacturer directly to ask about their gluten testing protocols. Many in our community have found that investing in certified gluten-free brands gives them greater peace of mind and helps avoid accidental gluten exposure, especially for higher-risk items like flours.
