Good Sunday Morning, All!

Just kinda stood in the middle of an aisle staring blankly into space...

Jess! Staring blankly into space....much like you are doing as the adorable baby in your av. Were you perhaps pondering similar things, all those 4* years ago? "My red wine tapioca pudding has just NOT set properly .....where in hell do I find some Coolwhip to fold into the mess, and save the day?" :lol:

The BIG question remains: What on earth did it TASTE like??

Michelle sits in sixth.... . ..don't think this will change, unless someone ahead of her drops out. You never know - - GO, MICHELLE, GO!!!

Really really good. Kinda fruit flavored with a little bite of alcohol. Dark chocolate shavings would have been perfect. And real whipped cream, of course.

DH and I went snowshoeing this am in a huge trailed field nearby. Gus and Elsie were racing along through the psnough, and Elsie suddenly stopped, looked around, and did a huge poop. Unbelievably, it looked EXACTLY like the shape in the wormy/fecal painting. Exactly. Same twirly, Dairy-Queen shape, same coloUr.....I did not have my phone/camera, or you can be certain it would have been my next avatar.

Upon Elsie dropping this thang, I immediately yelled, "Wow! That looks JUST like a mystery shape that is in this painting we've been contemplating in Da Ville!"

Will did not even stop to stare at me, nor at the poop.....just picked up his speed, shaking his head, silent. . . . . .

The overnight guest have all departed . . . quite successful, I think. I pulled the "Skeeter's mom is sooooo lame" trick by going and sleeping in the same room as them at about 12:40pm. Reported to all the parents picking up that their child got about 6 1/2 to 7 hours of sleep. Two out of the three were pleasently surprised and a "that's pretty good" and "you did better than I did at ours" . . . the third was . . . "well, I guess there will be a lot of fighting today" and this was the parent of the child that was actually keepting the rest up.

Hubby asked how long before Skeeter asks to invite someone over today to play. I didn't think she would but as luck would have it, she got a call about an hour later so she's already off.

I've managed to snooze (not sleep though) for about an hour. Now it's time to hit the laundry pile.

Okay, so here it is....throwing it out there for you numbers people to grapple with and come to her rescue.......

Okay, take it away Sophie:

To solve this problem, you have to make up 2 equations, then solve using substitution or elimination. ( Real math wizzes will understand what I mean)

Darius saves $500 and wants to open a chequing account. Ontario Trust charges $8 per month, plus $.50 per cheque. Maple Leafs Savings charges $6 per month, plus $.75 per cheque. Which bank offers the lowest monthly charge?

Dear Gawd...............

:wacko:

Emily....do they give any suggestion as to how many checks are going to be written on average? Or do you need to extrapolate at what point the charges become the same? That is your variable!!! :P

Crap! I dunno.....!!! :unsure::blink: (Sophie, here)..........

jerseyangel Proficient

Yeah--wouldn't it all depend on how many checQUes were written? :unsure:

flourgirl Apprentice

Here's what I mean....If bank one charges $8 plus .50 per check at 10 checks ($5) then the monthly charge is $13. Bank 2 charges $6 plus .75 per check at 10 checks (7.5) then the charge that month is $13.5. It all is going to depend on how many checks the depositor plans to write each month as to how much the monthly fee will be. :)

Dear Gawd...............

:wacko:

OK . . . I'll present it like I was thinking about it . . . Sophie can massage the equations however she likes . . .

The answer depends on the number of checks cheques written so I solved for the break even number . . . the number of cheques that result in the same monthly charge at both banks:

X is the breakeven numbr of cheques.

Y is the monthly charge when there are X cheques.

Y is the same for both banques.

Y = $8 + $.5X

Y = $6 + $.75X

$8 + $.5X = $6 + $.75X

which reduces to

$2 = .25X

X = 8

So if he writes less than 8 cheques/mo he should go with Maple Leaf Savings, if he writes more than 8, he should go with Ontario Trust.

Since you don't know how many checks are being written, there is not one clearcut answer.

If you set them up as equalities, you can figure out at how many checks they would be the same.

8+.50x=y

6+.75x=y

Therefore

8+.50x=6+.75x

subtract 6 from both sides

2+.50x=.75x

subtract .50x from both sides

2=.25x

divide both sides by .25

8=x

sooo.....at 8 checks, they are the same

Now go back to the original equations and insert a number lesser or greater than 8 to find which is the lowest monthly charge at less than 8 checks or more than 8 checks.

Very good JGiannet!!! I didn't think to put it in Algebraic form. Yer SO Smaaarrt!

Em...tell Rippelittle that if it's any consolation...I didn't get Math AT ALL in high school! It's probably what they learn in grade school these days. I went to college 10 years after high school....and the lightbulbs went off big time!!!! I got it! For some people the light bulbs happen earlier, for some of us later. There's hope.....really :)

      Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day:

      Just so you'll know, once you have been gluten-free for any length of time, it will invalidate testing for celiac disease.
    • QueenBorg
      Yes. I have not been tested for celiac. It took forever to get diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. lol. I have an appointment with my regular GP later this month and will convey my findings on improved symptoms and see what his thoughts are. Thank you.

      @Grahamsnaturalworld, It's never too late.   Have you been checked for Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth?  SIBO can cause ongoing symptoms.  Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) and Histamine Intolerance (HIT) can also be the cause of ongoing symptoms.  The AIP diet can help with these by starving out SIBO bacteria and calming the immune system. Do you include dairy in your diet?  Casein in dairy can cause an autoimmune response the same as to gluten.  Have you been checked for lactose intolerance?  Some people lose the ability to produce the enzyme, lactase, needed to digest lactose, the sugar in dairy because the villi where the lactase enzyme is made are damaged.  AIP diet excludes dairy. Do you include grains in your diet?  Gluten free alternative grains and ancient grains can be inflammatory and cause symptoms.  Some people with Celiac react to corn and oats.  The AIP diet excludes all grains.  Lectins in grains can be inflammatory and cause symptoms. Do you eat nightshades (tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, and eggplant).  This family of plants produce glycoalkaloids, chemicals that promote Leaky Gut Syndrome.  The AIP diet excludes nightshades.   Are you on any medications?  Some medications can cause gastrointestinal symptoms.  Do you take any supplements?  Some herbal teas and supplements can cause digestive symptoms.  Medications for diabetes, antidepressants, and other pharmaceuticals can cause digestive symptoms as side effects. Have you been checked for nutritional deficiencies?  Malabsorption of essential nutrients can occur with continued symptoms.  Deficiencies in Niacin, Thiamine, and other B vitamins can cause digestive symptoms.  Gastrointestinal Beriberi and Pellagra are often overlooked by doctors because they are not familiar with nutritional deficiency disease symptoms.  Nutritional deficiencies can worsen over time as stores inside the body are depleted.   Have your doctors checked for all these?   I had a horrible time getting my symptoms under control.  I had to answer all these questions myself.  Yes, it's frustrating and exasperating because doctors don't have to live with these symptoms everyday.
