The term refers to an historic Spanish coin worth 8 reales. They were widely used around the time Spain was trying to take over the New World.

Yes... . .. .. . I was hoping a young Spanish revolutionary was perhaps strolling through my yard and clandestinely slipped a small stash of such currency under the cover of said ho'tub, thinking it a grand hiding spot from the French... . .or English. . ... . ... .Vikings? Who in HELL were the Spaniards battling, anyways?:rolleyes:

Me, too.....love the 6am sun shining on me as I fill my first insulin injection. Doing this in the winter darkness really does make it all the more heinous .. . . .. <_<B)

Goooood Sunday Morning, Psillies!

I shall chance it right now and go for a run avec my big poodles.....rain is not happening yet, but will be any time now, all through the day..... . ..much needed, but I hate getting soaked when it is still only +5, and the dogs become a mess. . . . ..

What is this about 70 cm of snow in parts of Kansas?? That 2 1/2 FEET!! :o

I've been wondering if having a cat sleep on your pants counts as ironing....

Gah! For me, yes....by the time I've gone over my lap a hundred times with the lint/hair brush, it is certainly considered ironed. . . ........

Mornin Psillies! Another drippy, dreary day here! I worked outside in it all day yesterday....at least it wasn't freezing cold...or snowing! Read about the midwest and all of that snow and power-outages. How horrid! Pah-tay, you didn't get any of the storm on the fringes..did you? I heard the upper part of Texas was getting some nasty stuff! So glad it's not here :P

No ho'tub surprises.....how disappointing!

Psuessle.....I've been avoiding getting on the computer at night, maybe I should! Most nights I'm awake many times....tossing and turning, determined to go back to sleep. It's such a bummer :( Hope yer pheelin better today.

Every home should have at least one warm ironing cat! Energy efficient! Works all by itself!

I keep phorgetting what I meant to say....so I'll skip it for now! Hope everyone is having a most wonde :) rous day!

Light rain at the moment, but for a while it was just throwing it down. Light rain is expected to continue into the early evening.

Using a cat instead of an iron has merit. It takes less effort, and in my line of work if you have cat fur on your clothes it is not really out of place.

Cat iron it is! By popular consensus. If you travel on a mode of transportation that has a huge crowd moving in unison portion (like getting off the ferry), the cat hairs on your clothing tend to redistribute themselves to all your companions.:P

Yep--do a quick smooth of the pants right before kitty settles in and there you go! :D You get up relaxed AND crisp! What more could ya ask fer?

Storms all well to the north of us--it's been a beautiful, clear, cool weekend! B) Mark's working pretty much round the clock (coming home at 11, going back at 6) to get the company moved into the new facility by Tuesday. Daunting, but they feel they'll pull it off. :) Hopefully after that's all done, things will get back to normal. Whatever that is

Meanwhile, I'm bored to death......going grocery shopping later. Must get some of the "new, improved" Enjoy Life Granola people are saying good things about.

It's me phirst time driving out alone here--keep yer phingers crossed I don't get lost, er sumphin :P

Phunny thing--I've read about the Enjoy Life granola and how they've improved the recipe to good reviews here. The HEB here is a really big grocery store with a very decent gluten-free section. The EL granola was almost sold out! :P I got one of the last 3 bags on the shelf. I almost got 2, but I don't know if I'm gonna like it.

They were fully stocked on everything else in the dept, except this. Good new travels fast :D

Smackl has gotten a hair cut!!!! He wanted a little off the back . . . . . . he got more taken off than he wanted but it has a "style" now . . . well . . . sorta . . . if he were to actually brush it or sumptin.

Tis snowing at the moment so of course we decided that we must go buy our (dogwood) tree today. I'm going cheapo and buying from Lowe's instead of a nursery and they don't carry many big (I sooooo use that term loosely) ones (OK, I saw two) so I thought we better get it now or it won't be there when we come back.

What the crock you guys fixin' for supper tonight?? We're havin' beef and gravy, mashed taters, some kinda veggie TBD and trying BRM corn bread for the first time.

Did I ever tell you guys I lived in Texas (Abilene) for about 6 months? . . . mighty nice folks down in them there parts.

jerseyangel Proficient

Hi Jan-it!! :D Missed you!

Are you gonna post a picture of The Smackster's new 'do?

Cool that you lived in Texas--I have to say that everyone we've met here so far have been very nice :) Dinner.....it all depends if Mark is going to be home. If not, then leftover pasta. If he makes it home for dinner, I think sirloin tips/onions, mashed potatoes and a veggie.

I bought a box of GFP corn bread mix this morning--could make that too.....

jerseyangel Proficient

Another phood-related post.....this Enjoy Life Granola is really good! I bought the cinnamon kind, which was all they had left.

Closing up the bag now...... B)

hmmmm......dinner....

Last night I cooked a big chunk of beef (all night). Took it out this morning and took off the fat from the liquid (I cooked it in a bit a red wine - what else?).

A little while ago I threw some sweet taters, red bell peppers, pearl onions, garlic, and a can of tomatoes in to the broth. Figured I'd cook those up for a while, chuck the juice, and have a lovely bowl of veggies.

Jess! Don't chuck that juice! Pour it into a big wineglass and sip away....c'mon, ya don't throw wine sauce/broth out!. . . . ...

Ahhhh, dinner.. . .. . . . .tonight will be chicken nachos, wif the leftover meat from the big, fat bird I cooked last night. Nice big salad.....we're set. Just gotta get Jack on the cheese grater. When he does this job, it is quite amazing how the big brick of cheddar goes down to almost nothing, and there is not a whole lot of grated cheese resulting. . . . ... <_<

Looking for help sourcing gluten-free products that do not contain potato or corn derived ingredients. I have other autoimmune conditions (Psoriatic Arthritis and Sjogrens) so I’m looking for prepared foods as I have fatigue and cannot devote a lot of time to baking my own treats.

I am so sorry you're going through this. It's completely understandable to feel frustrated, stressed, and disregarded after such a long and difficult health journey. It's exhausting to constantly advocate for yourself, especially when you're dealing with so many symptoms and positive diagnoses like SIBO, while still feeling unwell. The fact that you have been diligently following the diet without relief is a clear sign that something else is going on, and your doctors should be investigating other causes or complications, not dismissing your very real suffering.

It is just so sad that health care in the United States has come to this.  Health insurance should be available to everyone, not just the healthy or the rich.  My heart goes out to you.  I would not hesitate to have the test and pay for it myself.  My big concern would be how you could keep the results truly private.  I am sure that ultimately, you could not.  A.I. is getting more and more pervasive, and all data is available somewhere.  I don't know if you could give a fake name, or pay for your test with cash.  I certainly would not disclose any positive results on a private insurance application.  As I understand it, for an official diagnosis, an MD needs to review your labs and make the call.  If you end up in the ER, or some other situation, just request a gluten free diet, and say it is because you feel better when you don't eat gluten.      Hang in there, though.  Medicare is not that far away for you, and it will remove a lot of stress from your health care concerns.  You will even be able to "come out of the closet" about being Celiac!

Yes, I've posted a few times about two companies: Request a Test and Ulta Labs. Also, pretty much we can all request any test we want (with the possible exception of the N protein Covid test and I'm sure a couple of others) with Lab Corp (or Pixel by Lab Corp) and Quest. I much prefer Lab Corp for their professionalism, ease of service and having it together administratively, at least in DC. And just so you know, Request a Test uses Lab Corp and Quest anyway, while Ulta Labs uses only Quest. Ulta Labs is cheaper than Request a Test, but I am tired of dealing with Quest, so I don't use them so much.

PS - I think you meant this site, but I don't believe it has been updated in years: http://glutenfreedrugs.com/ so it is best to use: You can search this site for prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the medication and maker in the results, then scroll down to "Ingredients and Appearance" and click it, and then look at "Inactive Ingredients," as any gluten ingredients would likely appear there, rather than in the Active Ingredients area. https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/
