Mornin', all!

OMG -- it's SOOOOOOOOOOOOO freezing cold here, with biting, very aggressive winds.....and I am supposed to join some friends on the other side of town - I cannot even FATHOM leaving my house! Tell me, how do people ever go ANYwhere - except work - in freezing cold climates? All I want to do is crawl into my warm bed and stay cocoooned!!!!!!!!!!!!!! good Lord, I am hoping they cancel......I am SOOOOOO excited I haven't heard from them since this morning........

Mygosh, Susie...a pathetic Canuck you'd make...I'd never get out of the house if I didn't just resign myself to some bitter outings. Should be quite temperate today, however--right around the freezing mark. :)

MIL tells me it's averaging -50 in Whitehorse right now--with, get this--about three hours of daylight per twenty-four. Light at 10:30 am, dark by 2 pm. Do we wonder at all why the suicide rates are very high up there?! :o

That has got to be strange, only having the few hours of daylight...I am not sure I could do that.....I hate daylight savings time as it is...I like when the sun is out until 8.

We haven't heard from Tom...wonder how things have transpired at his sister's place...

I was wondering the same thing...

They have no choice :D I grew up and lived in Central New York till I was in my 30's. Syracuse is one of the 2 or 3 cloudiest cities in the country and gets on average around 150" of snow a year. I remember going to school when it was blowing and drifting snow outside--and I walked to school :o I was a crossing guard, and when the wind chill temp was below -25, we got to have cocoa :P

The day before my April 5th wedding, we had 18 inches of snow--it went off without a hitch! :)

We went to Russia in January (1998) to get our son .... that's how it was there! And they are really outside people, they were always outside, and laughed at us when we thought it was too cold to take our son for more than a 5 minute walk when it was -25C!!!

Eek - grim!! - I would have to buy one of them light thingy's (what are they called?) else I'd be in such a deep depression :( . It's bad enough here - and I can feel myself 'dulling' in the winter months

.... but on the other side of things don't they have near constant light in the summer??? (can you say insomnia??)

Carla, I have been to Russia but it was summer so have never experienced -25 !! :o

....still eating Turkey...with salad and rolls and of course pickles (pickled onions, gherkins, piccalilli) I'm sure you don't know what picallilli is do you?????

Yes.

That's great, John's family is Russian, his mom and her family came over to the US many years ago. His brother is hoping to study abroad over in Russia.

That's really neat. When we adopted him, people would ask if we would have him continue speaking Russian so he could be bilingual ... we were like, uh, how? LOL Actually, he was almost 2 when we got him and he was still non-verbal ... they don't get enough interaction in the orphanages to learn at that age. :(

We'll take him over there sometime when he's older. We want him to feel connected to his heritage and know where he comes from. :) Though he is totally one of the gang .... looks like us, too, which you already know if you've noticed from old avatars.

My new native American name shall be Fits 1 dingo (unless Annie)

Both of my sisters were adopted out of the foster care system, My parents are foster care parents and went into foster care when I was 3. Carrie was adopted as a baby, Tammy was 6 when she was adopted (although she was an infant in my house and lived with us all those years) The three of us look very alike. We all have the strong personalities too. We are much closer now than when we were growing up. I used to want to be an only child very badly, now that I am older I appreciate them so much. We are very close now.

My parents have had 82 kids since they started, and some of those kids stayed for 3-4 years in our home. Right now they have Sabrina, their newest little doll.

Just a pop-in to quell any MIA or AWOL chatter. :)

Haven't been terribly sick or anything - just enough to not have any silly goin' on.

Getting sick at all, once becoming this accustomed to feeling good sucks at ANY time, but it sure is double-bad timing for it to be on a vacation AND over Christmas w/ little ones.

I've looked in a couple times, but keep feeling like saving the silly for when I'll appreciate it.

Still no idea what happened to my sister's old anti-wheat attitude. Mom thinks she's in denial. Tho she DOES understand that crumbs are dangerous, and does now know that her kitchen scares me.

Anyway . .. .I'll be home w/in 24 hrs. Sure hope I can recover quickly there since roommate's mom & 8 yr old girl will both already be there when I arrive. That little one's as great a kid as any and I'd hate to also miss out on enjoying her visit.

Carry on!!!! I expect to rejoin the silliness asap!! :)

P.S. Nikki! Piccalilli(sp?)? We called something that in my house but I never knew how to spell it. Others called it pickle relish. Is that it? huh? Huh? Is it?

This, I understand completely--to finally get to a point of feeling well and *then* to get sick again--ugh!!!!!!! Double ugh when away from home.

Hope you begin to feel better again quickly once you get home. I have a feeling you will, as I seem to recover much faster than I used to :)

Grrrrr....haven't gotten my slippers yet. Must venture out this aft. Feet are frigid...

Yep, in the middle of July the sun never really sets in Whitehorse...just too bizarre for me--like being on another planet. Insomniacs with suicidal tendencies... :o

That is so terrific, Carla. What a great brood you seem to have! :)

Glad you made it through, Tom...

Piccalillii....'Tis a funny little wind instrument, is it not? An angry, contagious face rash?

I have problems falling asleep now...I think having all that darkness would confuse my body.

John is sick again too....he gets better than 2 weeks later he is ill again. This time it is with a sore throat (which he says is bad) and he is tired.

No, that's a piccolo! I play that ... but can't get a sound out of it with my braces .... can't wait till Feb. 7th when they come OFF!!!

Russia in January Carla - utter madness!!!!!!!!!!!

It wasn't like we CHOSE January!   I was also five months pregnant at the time! :o It was fun ... I really felt like we saw the Russian culture being there in the dead of winter.

Russia has changed for the better since you were there in 98' if I am not mistaken. The economy has gotten better. I saw on CNN where they got their first IKEA and there are sidewalk cafes.

It wasn't too bad when we were there. I bought Estee Lauder powder at the Mall on Red Square! We bought ice cream at the grocery store. I'm sure the economy could have been better back then, but it wasn't like they were needing ball point pens, pantyhose and blue jeans. :)

So here is my personal Silly moment of the day. I just walked down the hall to use the bathroom...I checked the mirror, go wash my hands, and then had to walk back to the stall because I could not remember if I flushed the toliet....yikes!

Amanda - this is disconcerting - he has been sick so much! Um....I'm not sure - is HE gluten-free? Is he Celiac? Before I removed gluten, I was constantly sick, terrible sore throats about every two months that turned into bronchitis or something awful. Two Christmases ago, I was in the emergency room - TWICE - with a severe kidney infection - thought I was DYING. I'm so happy to say that was the LAST time I was sick! :)

Just wondering about John - it does seem like he has a compromised immune system....

John's immune system has not been the same since he had cancer 5 years ago, since that time he has gotten broncitis (sorry my spelling is so bad) Due to the low immune system he was unable to get a flu shot. As for celiac, I am not sure if that would be his problem...besides his last month or so of sickness, he doesn't have any of them symptoms, no GI, no other strange ones. Plus he eats a lot of the gluten-free food too. He eats mostly what I eat, with his occasional pizza and other goodies he needs. I allow him to have it too, since John is such a clean person (he loves to clean, when he gets better I will volunteer him to come to your house and clean) I don't usually worry about the CC with him. :)

Thank you that’s really helpful, hopeful won’t have to have a biopsy.
    • RMJ
That means the normal range (i.e. not celiac disease) would be a result less than 14.99.  Your result is WAY above that. Some gastroenterologists would diagnose that as celiac disease even without a confirming biopsy because it is more than ten times the top of the normal range.

Hi everyone. Back in 2022 I had blood work drawn for iga ext gliadin. Since then I’ve developed worse stomach issues and all other health issues. My doctor just said cut out gluten. He did no further testing. Please see my test results attached. I just need some direction cause I feel so ill and the stomach pain is becoming worse. Can this test show indications for other gastrointestinal diseases?
    • Fayeb23
Thank you. These were the results TTG ABS NUMERICAL: > 250.0 U/mL [< 14.99]  Really don’t understand the results!

Clearly from what you've said the info on Dailymed is much more up to date than the other site, which hasn't been updated since 2017. The fact that some companies might be repackaging drugs does not mean the info on the ingredients is not correct.
