Hi Sillies! Rather busy evening, just got Landen down, he is quite the funny guy this evening. We took a nice walk and he is all smiles.

Taking Landen on the weekends was the fit for all of us.

Amanda, I just think this arrangement is so great for all of you! :)

The BWAHAHAHA Triangle?

Classic! :D

Patti, what are the blood pressure meds like? Or are there a bunch, and they're all different...? I had a consult with my doc yesterday over the phone, and I told her mine hadn't gone down much. She gave me two more weeks for my numbers to go down, or I'll probably have to go on meds. At age not-quite-30.

What does this mean???

I began to have problems with it in my mid-forties, but even kids can have hypertention. They usually will first try a diuretic, adjusting the dosage to see if that will control it. If not, they will add a second med. I went backward, as I have been on an ACE inhibitor for years now, and yesterday they added the diurectic. I didn't do well on the diuretic in the past, but rather than go on another, more complicated drug, we opted to try the water pill again. I seem to be tolerating it well so far--I think that when I 'reacted' to it before, it had something to do with being ill with the Celiac (undiagnosed).

They then monitor you about every 3 months or so and adjust the meds if needed. I had no side effects at all with the Lisinopril, which is taken once a day. The most difficult thing about it is to figure out the right meds in the right dosages.

Hope yours will even out by itself--let me know how you do with it and if there's anything else I can help with just let me know :)

So, unless something unexpected happens quickly, Monday will be hell on wheels in Toronto.

Ugh! That doesn't sound good :(

Don't you mean 'hell without wheels'? Heard this on NPR this morning and thought of you.

EMBARRASSING MEDICAL EXAMS

1. A man comes into the ER and yells, 'My wife's going to have her baby in the cab!' I grabbed my stuff, rushed out to the cab, lifted the lady's dress, and began to take off her under-wear. Suddenly I noticed that there were several cabs

Oracle Peter, I need your expert opinion. We need to rescreen our pourch. Some of the damage to the current screen was done by squirrels trying to get to our bird feeder. How far away do we need to put the feeders so the squirrels can't reach it with a flying leap? Or perhaps it would be better to say how far do the squirrels "think" they can leap?

Our experience with our local squirrels seems to say a distance of about 3 metres is adequate in most cases. A bit more may be needed if they are leaping from high above. American squirrels would need about ten feet.

Ok, this makes me feel a lot better about the possibility. Thinking about it, a diuretic would make sense too-- I've had nearly constant edema in my feet and legs for months now... warning sign, maybe? I dunno...

Though I shudder to think what a diuretic would do to my bathroom habits. I already have to pee every hour. No exaggeration.

Anyway, thanks Patti!!! This helped me feel better about it. I was worrying about it... I know that's counterproductive, but I couldn't help it.

OMG.......

My daughter is out on our deck studying for a health test, and all our neighboUrs are out doing spring yard work. I am sitting on the comuter in our office, which has a window looking out to where she's sitting. A few minutes ago, she yells, "Mom?" I respond, "Yes?"

She yells, "WHAT"S A VULVA?"

Gawd........... :ph34r::blink:

So, unless something unexpected happens quickly, Monday will be hell on wheels in Toronto.

Indeed, hell off wheels......

Peter, does the city transit department include the ferry boats? Surely they have to keep running. My brother would have to swim to work, I suppose.....

Yes, our Canadian squirrels are shy, tentative and exceedingly polite - - they don't jump more than a couple of feet. In fact, they must be invited to a birdhouse, or they won't show...

Overheard a group of 10 year olds talking about farting the other day. One says "Did you know farts can kill?" I was dying to put my hand up and ask how, but then it would've blown my cover. Have to ask, is it the fartee that dies, or the recipient of the smell? I'll put my money on the recipient of the smell.

 Why, oh why, is farting so darn funny? My hubby, who is 38, still makes me pull his finger and I still do it AND crack up every time!!!!!

Well, since my cover has been blown . . . here is the real picture of me and Bev and Panera's. Thanks to Bev and Carla for keeping my secret all this time but since Will the cat who is apparently crapping in my yard is out of the bag, I guess there is no longer a reason to carry on with the ruse.

Oh nooooooooooooo.......................you didn't!!!!!!!!!!!!

The ferries are run by the parks department, not the TTC. So no worries there.

But the mayor, who never met a union he didn't sell out to like, actually asked the provincial government to pass back-to-work legislation. The Ontario Legislature will meet in emergency session Sunday at 1:30 to consider a bill to that effect. So, it may be over in time for Monday's morning rush.

Must count our lucky stars, we have nothing over here like jumping/leaping squirrels!

Elye "What's a vulva?" if you were quick enough you could've said a car (Volvo).

Reminds me of when we had religious instruction at school and somehow or other I got asked to ask a question about contraception. Me being young and stupid did ask the question, and I got a roasting from the nun. I learnt very quickly if anybody wanted to know any answers, they could damned well ask their own.

For along time there I thought phart jokes were so gross and juvenile. But what happens, I do get a giggle out of them, thanks to coeliac.

That's exactly what I did say. However, this was health stuff, so she knew that a Swedish car would not be included in a "Parts of our Sexual Organs" test diagram. So, I unfortunately could not leave it at that.

Kaycee! You've no leaping squirrels in NZ? You do have some bizarre creatures down there, as I recall...weird sea-dwellers and insects, n'est-ce-pas?

Jestgar Rising Star

So, I'm laying in the sun (for my skin, mind you) thinking about what to eat next, when it occurred to me that I'm under doctor's orders to eat meat and cheese and lay around outside. If I can figure out how to get a prescription for Scotch and cigarettes, I'll be every man's dream girl.

Look at this (no it's not my hubby)

Try not to worry, Sarah. Think about it this way--you found out about it early and can start treating it (if need be) before it does any damage. :) It's all going to be fine ;):D

Last night was my first night on the diuretic, and I only got up once to use the bathroom--so far I haven't noticed that much of a change--except I couldn't believe how much I pee at one time. :o I also swear that my clothes fit the tiniest bit looser this morning. I must have been holding on to a lot of excess fluid.

Sillies what a fun day we have had, my college roommate and her boyfriend came to visit. We had a ball, next week our other college buddy is getting married....and is having a "dry" wedding.....I cannot believe it! We are going to take our own "fluids" to celebrate....don't get me wrong we aren't drinkers or anything but I cannot deal with not having a drink at this fun occasion.

Landen is fussy tonight and he wouldn't take the rest of his bottle. I took him into his crib and put him down, he seems to be quiet now...

...And those neck shots, as well as the floor-with-feet scenes and those with thumb edges visible - - are mine.

Thank you for the information ill will definitely bring it into practice .

While plain, pure tea leaves (black, green, or white) are naturally gluten-free, the issue often lies not with the tea itself but with other ingredients or processing. Many flavored teas use barley malt or other gluten-containing grains as a flavoring agent, which would be clearly listed on the ingredient label. Cross-contamination is another possibility, either in the facility where the tea is processed or, surprisingly, from the tea bag material itself—some tea bags are sealed with a wheat-based glue. Furthermore, it's important to consider that your reaction could be to other substances in tea, such as high levels of tannins, which can be hard on the stomach, or to natural histamines or other compounds that can cause a non-celiac immune response. The best way to investigate is to carefully read labels for hidden ingredients, try switching to a certified gluten-free tea brand that uses whole leaf or pyramid-style bags, and see if the reaction persists.

This is a challenging and confusing situation. The combination of a positive EMA—which is a highly specific marker rarely yielding false positives—alongside strongly elevated TTG on two separate occasions, years apart, is profoundly suggestive of celiac disease, even in the absence of biopsy damage. This pattern strongly aligns with what is known as "potential celiac disease," where the immune system is clearly activated, but intestinal damage has not yet become visible under the microscope. Your concern about the long-term risk of continued gluten consumption is valid, especially given your family's experience with the consequences of delayed diagnosis. Since your daughter is now at an age where her buy-in is essential for a gluten-free lifestyle, obtaining a definitive answer is crucial for her long-term adherence and health. Given that she is asymptomatic yet serologically positive, a third biopsy now, after a proper 12-week challenge, offers the best chance to capture any microscopic damage that may have developed, providing the concrete evidence needed to justify the dietary change. This isn't about wanting her to have celiac; it's about wanting to prevent the insidious damage that can occur while waiting for symptoms to appear, and ultimately giving her the unambiguous "why" she needs to accept and commit to the necessary treatment. This article might be helpful. It breaks down each type of test, and what a positive results means in terms of the probability that you might have celiac disease. One test that always needs to be done is the IgA Levels/Deficiency Test (often called "Total IGA") because some people are naturally IGA deficient, and if this is the case, then certain blood tests for celiac disease might be false-negative, and other types of tests need to be done to make an accurate diagnosis. The article includes the "Mayo Clinic Protocol," which is the best overall protocol for results to be ~98% accurate.
    • Scott Adams
Welcome to the community! Generally, for a gluten challenge before celiac disease blood tests, Tylenol (acetaminophen) is considered safe and should not interfere with your antibody results. The medications you typically need to avoid are those like ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) or naproxen (Aleve) that can cause intestinal irritation, which could potentially complicate the interpretation of an endoscopy if you were to have one. However, it is absolutely crucial that you confirm this with either your gastroenterologist or your surgeon before your procedure. They know the specifics of your case and can give you the definitive green light, ensuring your surgery is comfortable and your celiac testing remains accurate. Best of luck with your surgery tomorrow
    • Xravith
Thank you for the advice. I’ve actually never checked for nutritional deficiencies, but for as long as I can remember, I’ve always taken vitamin and mineral supplements — otherwise my symptoms get worse. This week I stopped eating gluten to confirm whether my symptoms are really caused by it. Starting next week, I’ll reintroduce gluten — it’s sad to go back to how I was before — but at least I’ll be able to take the necessary tests properly. I think the diagnostic process will be long, but at least I’m happy that I finally decided to address this doubt I’ve had for years.
