Blue Cheese Blues

I really miss my blue cheese on a salad or with an apple for a snack. I think gorgonzola and blue cheese are off limits. :(

Some blue cheese is not made with mold cultured on bread. Some others here will likely be able to quote brands.

Last time I bought blue cheese I just made sure to read the label until I found one that did not list wheat!

This is from the Boar's Head website. I have had Boar's Head bleu cheese in the past.

Are your products Gluten Free?

All Boar's Head Brand® Meats, Cheeses and Condiments, as well as Hans Jurgen® Pickles are Gluten Free.

Of course we encourage you to always read labels, and check for any specific ingredients your doctor may want you to avoid. Always check the labels on store prepared entrees and sandwiches as they may contain gravies and sauces that contain gluten.

If you have any further questions about specific ingredients, or products other than meats, cheeses and condiments, please contact us at our Nutritional Information Line by calling 800-352-6277.

According to the Kraft Foods website, Athenos brand blue cheese is on the gluten-free list. Hope this helps.

Thank you - I do miss it quite a bit. It will be on my grocery list tomorrow. :)

If the blue cheese is grown on wheat bread, are companies required to label it with "contains wheat"? For some reason I thought it might not be on the label.

It sounds like you have a very reasonable GI doctor, who diagnosed you based on family history and symptoms after eating gluten. I would consider you lucky! The other option would be to make yourself very sick by doing weeks of a gluten challenge prior to an endoscopy.

Hi Colleen H,   I suffered with the pins and needles/burning feeling in my legs and feet for at least  6 years until my Nephrologist figured out that I had to go on a low salt diet.  He said my kidneys weren't strong enough to remove the salt.  The simple fix was a diuretic, but that med leaves the uric acid behind, so that wasn't an option.  On the bright side the low salt diet lowered my BP over 20 points and and the pins and needles/burning feeling went away.  Good Luck and hope this helps.

I did ... But aren't we going to be vitamin deficienct if we are not eating due to being sick ?? If the food we eat is gluten free and we have other sensitivities , how do we get out of the cycle??  Thank you

Anyone else get pins and needles. ??? Burning feeling ? Heat makes it so much worse 😔  Winter is here.  I had to lower my thermostat because I couldn't take that hot air feeling 😔  Hopefully it goes away soon
