A Bit Yucky...

I have to ask this question.. does anyone else have unexplainable gas? It isnt gluten related.. its been for days.. it doesnt hurt and not uncomfortable.. but doesnt smell nice at all.. and its rather ummmm... loud.

Could it be a product of my medications? I did start a few new ones lately for different reasons.. I take a whole slew of stuff.. I am a walking pharmacy.. these first ones never bothered me before and I have been on them for a while.. Lamictal, nortriptylene, and seroquel.. the new ones.. are valium, prednesone (sp?) celebrex (which I stopped due to the prednisone) and amoxicillian.

Has anyone ever heard of this? I tried looking up their side effects but to no avail. I found nothing I was looking for.. I would appreciate any help..

I don't know if it's medication related or not, but gas is a perfectly normal occurence, even if it's loud and, well, smelly... Even if it lasts a few days.

Actually, I find I have loud and smelly gas ONLY when I have eaten certain foods. Like I gave in to a craving for bread and ate some gluten-free bread, and bingo........smelly gas. Or potatoes, or even chocolate (all gluten-free, of course).

If I am good, and stay on my stupid restricted diet, I don't have gas at all, or at least it isn't loud and smelly, and won't cause me to bloat.

So, it could be related to your meds, or other intolerances.

It's probably due to a food that you ate. Lots of veggies tend to produce gas - broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts and other cruciferous vegetables. And, of course, beans.

Antibiotics can actually cause digestive upset.

Actually, smelly gas can definitely be a normal occurance from malabsorption. I know when my system isn't performing correctly, smelly gas is one of the symptoms.

Interesting, when I suffered for a few months with ectopics I noticed that carbohydrates would cause indigestion and bloating in my stomach, then that would lead to my heart skipping beats, and I could feel it in my throat, it was very unsettling.  My last serious bout of this was after eating a Muller Rice Pudding for breakfast.   I happened to be wearing a 48 hour halter at the time and cardiology picked it up, but they weren't worried about what they saw. There was some British doctor who'd made some videos on the Vagus nerve that I remember watching at the time which made sense of what I was experiencing, there did seem to be some sort of connection.

I asked my cardiologist about stopping vitamins.  He said his tests account for all detectable vitamins from sources other than food.  I only need to stop them for a couple of days.  He has me keep records of meds and vitamins I've ingested over the past 10 days and prior and he does his calculations.

Reply to treats I try and eat to bring up the glucose. Sometime I get up 3 times a night and eat something. I don't think food is the issue. A lot of the food they say should help doesn't.  Many mornings my level is 59 and I feel sick, sometimes for hours. It has been recommended I go to an Endocrinologist.
