This diet is so frustrating sometimes!! I think I got either glutened or food poisoned at taco bell...all I had were the pinto beans w/ cheese, and i had my own chips at home. Got pretty sick from that. Then, I either got sick from chic-fil-a's fries (which I have eaten numerous times and been fine...) or else I got CC from making tacos (flour tortillas for DH)...this is a pain!

hey sweetfudge,

im soooo sorry. wow, what a bummer. it can be so frustrating...

sounds like all of your possibilites are very possible. i have gotten horribly sick at both chick fil a and taco bell..I finally had to tell myself than any glutenings are just not worth it because I get sick...plus making flour things *can* be risky.

I wish I could make it all better....its one of those "I'll never do that again" moments (like, "I'll never drink again" when we are hungover....;))

Hey Sweetfudge: For the most part, I don't cook/bake with anything containing gluten...the exception is Christmas baking with my kids. I wear one of those face masks, make the kids pour and mix the flour in the garage  and wipe the counters etc real often with paper towel and soap and water--yeah I'm a bit of a freak in that department but it really helps. Dear Sweetfudge,

I feel for you! I can so relate (as can all of us on the forum). It is a pain. My parents are not gluten-free. My mother treats me like a hypochondriac. Dad is coming around a bit more now.

She has always been convinced that I am crazy, though. She is obsessed with it. She labels everyone with some form of psychological disorder. Since she went to beauty school, she does not apply for a mental health professional. However, many hairdressers must often act as therapists! I got glutened the other week, and could not figure out how! Then, the other night, Mom used my Smart Balance Light so now I have to get new butter! UUURGGGGHHH!!! People are just not careful! I just do not go out to eat! My cousin and Aunt came to visit, but they always go out to eat. So, I did not end up going. It sucks having to explain yourself to everyone all of the time.

Sincerely,

NoGluGirl

P.S. My business site is finally up and running. go to www.kimskraftsgiftsandmore.com to check it out.

Please spread it around. I desperately need customers!

Sorry your mom isn't any better. I know, I screamed at my husband the other day for using HIS butterknife to butter his bread with MY butter!

I don't go out to eat often, but I miss it a lot!

Congrats on the business! Wow you have a lot of stuff on there! Do you make it all or just sell it? I'm gonna have to put in an order once I get some extra money :) Hopefully I'll get christmas cash from relatives!!

What are your daily meals? Guilty pleasure snacks? Protein bars? I feel when looking for gluten free foods they are filled with sugar cholesterol. Looking for healthy gluten-free protein bars. Something to fill since sometimes I feel like not to eat anything. Especially if on vacation and unsure of cross contamination I figure go with a salad and protein bar to fill and play it safe.

Unfortunately, there is presently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. NCGS is thought to be much more common than celiac disease. We know that celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder but the mechanism of NCGS is less clear. Both call for an elimination of gluten from the diet.

Thanks for your reply Trents…most appreciated.  I am unfamiliar with celiac labs terminology so I wanted to know if the presence of HLA variants (DA:101, DA:105, DQB1:0301 and DQB1:0501) that the labs detected had any merit in predisposing one to be more sensitive to gluten/carbs than the general population?  Also,  I found what you said about NCGS very interesting and I appreciate you mentioning that.  I’ve worked hard to research and advocate for myself with my Hematologist and now with a new GI, since my bowel surgery and to maintain my Vitamin B12 health concurrent with keeping my levels of Iron in the optimal range. I’ve been tested for SIBO (do not have it), biopsy showed negative for HPylori, and have had Fecal studies done (nothing showed up) and I understand how a loss of a large amount of bowel could be highly impacting re: SIBO, malabsorption and motility issues. So I’ve managed pretty well diet and elimination-wise until just recently. That said, this new problem with extreme bloating, distention and upper girth, NAFLD just occured over the last 4 months so it is new for me and I thought celiac might be a possible issue. I’ll probably just continue on in this less gluten/carbs seem to be better for me and see how reintroducing certain foods go.  Thanks again.

Thanks bumped it up and now take all 3 vitamins 2 capsules each with the super b complex at breakfast. I will give it some time to see if I notice a difference. I am going to track my eating daily diary on a myfitness pal app to see if the "claimed" gluten free foods bother me or not.

Please can anyone help. I was diagnosed on 23rd December and I am trying my best to get my head around all the things to look out for. I have read that yeast extract is not to be eaten by coeliacs. Why? And is this all yeast extract. Or is this information wrong. Thanks.
