I don't know the answer to that. My son broke out in eczema and cleared up after going gluten/soy free. He breaks out with eczema for his food intolerances it seems.

I have eczema that hasn't totally cleared going gluten free, but it generally seems a little better. I always have flare ups in the fall/winter so for me I think it must be related to something other than food (at least in part).

I don't know, but my psoriasis has sure gotten alot better since I've gone gluten free!

i, too, am a lifelong eczema sufferer, and although it has improved since i've gone gluten free, i still break out due to other allergies (like tree pollen season) and alot of handwashing without lotioning afterwards. i don't know about psoriasis, but i believe that eczema breakouts are mainly related to some sort of allergic reaction whether to food or other noxious materials. oh, and i use gold bond ultimate healing lotion to treat my patches. it's a Godsend.

According to my doctors, yes, it is more pronounced in Celiacs. I have seborrhic dermatitis (fancy words for seborrhea) . . . it's between eczema and psoriasis . . . . so I guess I'm on the side of the fence that's proving them right!

My hubby had psoriasis before going gluten-free...it completely disappeared after going gluten-free.

I've had eczema all my life and although I'm not a coeliac I went gluten-free as hubby + 1 son are coeliacs.My eczema greatly improved when I went gluten-free.

Hmmmm,- not sure I understand why though!! :blink:

I have psoriasis and did have psoriatic arthritis. They both went away when I eliminated wheat/gluten, dairy, eggs and soy. The psoriasis has come back though, even though I am gluten-free. I don't eat soy at all and eat very limited amounts of eggs and dairy (a little butter, a little goat cheese). No problems with the psoriatic arthritis though. I think other food intolerances can contribute to psoriasis. My psoriasis is MUCH better though than it was before.

I have just a few very mild spots of ezcema on my face and also some what I think is psoriasis on my forehead. Although they've been worse in the past, there hasn't been much change since going allergen-free. In fact, a new tiny spot of ezcema popped up just a few weeks ago. But maybe it will take several more months for improvement - I can only hope.

;) I've always wondered if the Psoriais in celiacs is often just misdiagnosed DH that can accompany celiac disease. Don't they look and act a lot alike?

My hubby was diagnosed with Psoriais many years before being diagnosed with Celiac (although he did have all the celiac symptoms) and nothing seemed to help. But strangely, after going gluten free, it diminished and eventually disappeared completely. He had it very bad on his knees, elbows, knuckles and bottom. With such improvement after being diagnosed with Celiac and going gluten free, we just always assumed it probably had been DH all along.

[My psoriasis and excema were really bad before going gluten and dairy free and cleared completey after a couple of years. Is started putting dairy back in in small amounts like cream in coffee the occasional DQ icecream and that is about it and it came back. Take it out and a fews days later it is gone. So for sure it is Gluten but I have to eliminate 100% of the dairy as well and preservatives.

This is my first post EVER so please bear with me. I was diagnosed with psoriasis some 30 years ago, although I never believed I actually had it! Its a Looong story. I actually suffer from DH but do not seem to have an issue with any GI matters; however I have a brother who has serious GI issues, and a daughter who suffered from severe ocular migraines in her early teens until all gluten was removed from her diet. My DH is a scalp and face issue, yet my father suffered DH (which I now retrospectively realise) on his feet and ankles. Anyway, as interesting as this all may or may not be my reason for posting this is that I was interested to discover that current research suggests that celiac problems are related to chromosome 6. I found this very interesting as I also am dyslexic and current research on dyslexia also shows that this condition is also related to chromosome 6. For relief of HD breakouts I use a 50/50 mix of organic Apple Cider Vinegar and isopropyl alchohol. Its bliss.

Are these conditions more pronounced in Coeliacs?

I know MANY people whose eczema disappeared after several months on mangosteen juice [get the original!!] Psoriasis.......GREATLY improved on this juice! Don't believe me? That's OK!!

      Testing can't alone be trusted.  Else why would it take so many years of testing and retesting and misdiagnosis to finally be told, yes you have Celiac Disease. As to what to eat, I like pre 1950 style food.  Before the advent of TV dinners.  Fresh food is better for you, and cooking from scratch is cheaper.  Watch Rachel Ray's 30 Minute Meals for how to cook.  Keep in mind that she is not gluten free, but her techniques are awesome.  Just use something else instead of wheat, barley, rye. Dr Fuhrman is a ex cardiologist.  His book Eat to Live and Dr Davis' book Wheatbelly were instrumental in my survival.

      If you have DH you will likely also want to avoid iodine, which is common in seafoods and dairy products, as it can exacerbate symptoms in some people.       I just want to clarify that what I posted is a category of research summaries we've done over the years, and nearly each one shows that there is definitely a connection to celiac disease and migraine headaches. The latest study said: "the study did indicate some potential causal associations between celiac disease and migraine with or without aura, as well as between migraine without aura and ulcerative colitis...this study did not find evidence of a shared genetic basis..."       Two months ago, I started taking Dupixent for dermatitis herpetiformis and it has completely cleared it up. I can't believe it! I have had a terrible painful, intensely itchy rash for over a year despite going fully gluten-free. See if your doctor will prescribe Dupixent. It can be expensive but I am getting it free. When the dermatitis herpetiformis was bad I could not do anything. I just lay in bed covered in ice packs to ease the pain/itching and using way too Clobetasol. Dapsone is also very good for dermatitis herpetiformis (and it is generic). It helped me and the results were immediate but it gave me severe anemia so the Dupixent is better for me. Not sure if it works for everyone. I cannot help with the cause of your stress but from experience I am sure the severe stress is making the celiac and dermatitis herpetiformis worse. Very difficult for you with having children to care for and you being so sick. Would this man be willing to see a family therapist with you? He may be angry at you or imagine that your illness is a psychosomatic excuse not to take care of him. A therapist might help even if he won't go with you. Also do you have any family that you could move in with (with the kids) for a short time to get away? A break may be good for you both.

      @tiffanygosci, Thiamine deficiency is a thing in pregnancy for "normal" people, so it's exponentially more important for those with celiac disease and malabsorption issues.
