A Proper Welcome To Srokie!

Once again, this thread has ventured off into left field. There are many valid points that are being made currently in the later part of this thread, as well as the early posts.

With Karen's permission, who began this thread, I am wondering if a new thread could be started regarding "How to Improve the Forum" or other. Certainly, not to single out a poster, but in general, how can we get together to meet the needs of each other and those that are new to us and share information that is our general concern which is good health. We all have a common bond. And, without saying, we have very distinct personalities.

I do not think that Srokie will return. It was an intense weekend for many of us. Maybe it may be time to close this thread and post to voices that have current concerns. Concerns which are apparent in the later of this thread.

Thoughts always welcome.

Lisa

PS: darn, (not my choice of words ) I LOVE spell check.

:P Thanks!! That's so sweet. I'm not worried about it ... I agree with how Rachel put it, it's juvenile. If it were some kind of official ranking based on quality of answers, it would be potentially useful information, but it's not. I would only ever give anyone 5 stars.

DITTO CARLA--WE ALL DO THE BEST WE CAN ON HERE AND ARE ALL 5'S AND THANKS FOR THE LARGER PRINT.

THANKS YOU AND SHIRLEY.

HEY JUDY,

I WAS JUST REFERING TO THIS CURRENT THREAD. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY GOOD THOUGHTS ON THIS THREAD, I JUST THOUGHT THAT IT MIGHT BE HELPFUL TO COMBINE IT INTO ONE COMMON THREAD.

THE TOPIC IS NO LONGER WHAT THE THREAD REVIELDS ( Another Morf)

WHATEVER IT SHALL BE.

Let me hasten to add that if you will be undergoing an endoscopy/biopsy, it is critical that you do not begin efforts to reduce gluten beforehand. Doing so will render the results invalid as it will allow the small bowel lining to heal and, therefore, obscure the damage done by celiac disease which is what the biopsy is looking for.

That’s a really tough situation. A few key points: as mentioned, a gluten challenge does require daily gluten for several weeks to make blood tests meaningful, but negative tests after limited exposure aren’t reliable. Dermatitis herpetiformis can also be tricky to diagnose unless the biopsy is taken from normal-looking skin next to a lesion. Some people with celiac or DH don’t react every time they’re exposed, so lack of symptoms doesn’t rule it out. Given your history and family cancer risk, this is something I’d strongly discuss with a celiac-experienced gastroenterologist or dermatologist before attempting a challenge on your own, so risks and benefits are clearly weighed.

https://celiac.org/glutenexposuremarkers/    yes, two hours after accidents ingesting gluten I am vomiting and then diarrhea- then exhaustion and a headache. see the article above- There is research that shows our reactions.

Concerning the EMA positive result, the EMA was the original blood test developed to detect celiac disease and has largely been replaced by the tTG-IGA which has a similar reliability confidence but is much less expensive to run. Yes, a positive EMA is very strong evidence of celiac disease but not foolproof. In the UK, a tTG-IGA score that is 10x normal or greater will often result in foregoing the endoscopy/biopsy. Weaker positives on the tTG-IGA still trigger the endoscopy/biopsy. That protocol is being considered in the US but is not yet in place.
