Anyone see Scrubs on tonite?

They mentioned gluten in a one-liner and my boyfriend and I couldn't stop laughing until the commercial break...fabulous.

It may have been an insignificant joke, but at least they said gluten!

That's cool! It's actually a good sign that people would have a vague notion what it is or they wouldn't even use the word. All the recent publicity must be doing something.

When it's on Saturday Night Live, or mentioned on the Top Ten List on Letterman, we'll know we have arrived.

What was the joke?

Ack, ack, I meant to tape it, but I forgot! I don't suppose anyone taped it?

I saw it. Made me chuckle. JD wanted to find out if a girl had allergies, so he could claim the same allergy since "girls love that" Then it was something like him, pretending to talk to the girl, "Gluten? Me too!, we can eat together!"

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
