I will be traveling to Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. A couple people have said there are resteraunt cards written in other languages that you can show the chef so he/she is aware of your restrictions. Does anyone know where to find these?

I would recommend this site, but it doesn't look like theyhave them in German. Try this site instead.

This is the site with the most languages I've run across (38):

I haven't seen the Triumph Dining Cards in German, but they have them in Italian, French and Spanish. Google Triumph Dining and ask - they may have developed one. They are nicely laminated and fit easily in a wallet.

These don't come in German. Open Original Shared Link

German is included in the list at the site I mentioned. What you get translated isn't as good (or durable) as with a Triumph card, but it doesn't help if you don't have the right language!

If you want to order the Triumph cards, I would do so through amazon .com or not at all. The disclaimer on their website says that your credit card information may be unencrypted and they will not assume responsibility for it. =o(

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
