Duncan Hines Cream Cheese Frosting

I know we've covered this before but I just want to double check. Is Duncan Hines Cream Cheese Frosting gluten free?

I usually only buy Pillsbury, but they didn't have the cream cheese one and I'm making a carrot cake for my brother's birthday (who is also celiac).

I already bought it but just want to double check before using it. All the ingrients seem to be safe.

I don't know the answer to your question, BUT I ahve an awesome easy recipe that I make all the time for Cream cheese Frosting.

Take one stick of butter, softened to room temp

one brick of cream cheese, softened to room temp

Blend those together until smooth, add a dash or two of vanilla and then powdered sugar until it is the consistency you want it.

yuuuuuummmmy!!! On cakes, cookies, fruit, or by the spoonful if you are feeling really naughty!!

Duncan Hines told me today (January 24, 2007) that they no longer consider any of their frostings to be gluten free because they are manufactured in a facility that shares lines with gluten containing products. Also, they would give no information about specific flavors of their frosting when I spoke with them on the phone. They just emphasize that no matter what the ingredient panel says, none of the frostings are gluten free.Food SmartList subscribers should note this change."

Yep, I gave up on store bought frostings completely. :( Frosting is easy enough to make so not a huge deal... just annoying.

As a hint, you could mix butter, vanilla and cream cheese together & freeze it for short-term future use if you bake a lot. Or should cream cheese not be frozen?....just a thought.

      That and my nutritionist also said that drinking cider is one of the worst drink choices for me, given that I have candida overgrowth.  She said the combination of the alcohol and sugar would be very likely to worsen my candida problem.  She suggested that if I drink, I go for clear vodka, either neat or with a splash of cranberry.   So in summary, I am giving ciders a rest.  Whether it's a gluten risk or sugars and yeast overgrowth, its just not worth it.

      While plain, pure tea leaves (black, green, or white) are naturally gluten-free, the issue often lies not with the tea itself but with other ingredients or processing. Many flavored teas use barley malt or other gluten-containing grains as a flavoring agent, which would be clearly listed on the ingredient label. Cross-contamination is another possibility, either in the facility where the tea is processed or, surprisingly, from the tea bag material itself—some tea bags are sealed with a wheat-based glue. Furthermore, it's important to consider that your reaction could be to other substances in tea, such as high levels of tannins, which can be hard on the stomach, or to natural histamines or other compounds that can cause a non-celiac immune response. The best way to investigate is to carefully read labels for hidden ingredients, try switching to a certified gluten-free tea brand that uses whole leaf or pyramid-style bags, and see if the reaction persists.
