I'm leaving tomorrow AM for a weeklong trip to NC. I probably won't be able to post while I'm gone and I'm not sure I'll have time to get on later today. I haven't started packing yet and have a busy day ahead of me.

I weighed myself early and have lost 1 more pound. I feel a little discouraged because I would like to be losing 2 pounds a week, but I guess it's better than gaining.

I hope that I can be disciplined while I'm on my trip. I'll be staying with my cousin, who is slim and always dieting, so hopefully it will be easy to eat fruits and veggies. I'll also be doing most of the cooking, since she's clueless about gluten-free and I don't want to get sick.

If I don't have a chance to check in again while I'm gone, good luck to all of you and hope you have great success in the next week!

Welcome Kassandra! Glad to have you join us. It looks like you might need to have a little more protein with each meal. That might help you avoid cravings for things like chocolate chips. ;)

Donna - I encourage you again to get tested either through Enterolab or your doctor. If you are gluten intolerant or Celiac, you're hurting yourself to eat that much gluten. Is your husband supportive at all?

I did pretty well over the weekend, although I didn't really keep track of everything I ate. I worked out hard on Saturday and then went for a bike ride last night.

Well when I can get the money together for the testing then I will go for the whole test. My husband is supportive be he just does not understand what it is that I have to stay away from, he knows that I have to stay away from Tomatoes.

:) When my other choice is veggies...

So. Knowing I was going to have to post this I did NOT go home and plop my butt in front of the TV and consume half a chicken dipped in barbecue sauce while watching Wheel of Fortune.

Instead I got off the bus 1/2 mile early and walked home, then chopped 1 breast from the chicken in my frig and added ~3 T of light Miracle Whip and ate little spoonfuls of that on celery. For dessert I had 1 pear and three plums.

B - Three tomatoes, ~3T olive oil, 2 eggs sauted together.

:) WOW that is a lot of Tomatoes that you eat, this is one thing that I really have to stay away from, I would be like pedro sick in the bathroom soon after eating them :)

Well, I just had a Dr's appointment. Got checked over pretty completely. turns out my HDL (the good ones) levels are way too low. Dr suggested eating more seafood (yum), more good fats (avocado, etc), and drinking more wine. Might be the first good news I've got from a Doctor in years! =>

the bad news is I've been told my weight is also an issue, and I need to lose some. Is it too late to join in the thread?

Geoff

How much do you need or want to loose, can't be that much from your picture you seem pretty active.

donna

I am pretty active. I kayak once a week or so. four or five years ago I was running marathons, but was starting to have a hard time staying active. Since my diagnosis, I've been feeling better, but gaining weight. Can't really figure out how, except stressed and busy and not excercising much.

I've always been big, football player/wrestler build, but have been getting pudgy. I'm weighed in at 282 this morning. Last time I was at 225, I was feeling pretty good about my build. I was muscular and didn't mind going to the beach shirtless. That was about 5 years ago, before my health got worse. I'd like to get back to that, so that's a fairly ambitious 50 pounds.

Geoff

UR Groovy Explorer

Hello Everyone,

A less ambitious weigh-in day than last week.

I'm 160 (2 lbs. up) and I refuse to measure my waist. Denial? Yes. And I'm okay with that.

Geoff, welcome.

50 lbs, huh? You're looking to get lean, ay? Good to have you here.

I've been pretending like this thread does not exist, as I've been bad, bad, bad. I'm up 2 lbs. on the scale, and not being attentive to this part of my life. I have, however, been walking and walking and walking.

Seeing how it's weigh in day and all, I'm ready to try again.

Hope you all are doing well, and I wish you all many losses (of pounds or kilos as the case may be) in the days to come.

Well, I'm not off to the best start. I was up till almost 3 working, and got up at 6. Pretty tired. I had a bowl of Cocoa Pebbles for breakfast, with FF milk and a lactaid pill.

Strangely, my neuropathy, which hasn't been acting up much, is really bad today. this morning, trying to type, I was having a rough time.

Geoff

This is my first Friday weigh in. I'm at 155 (up from 146 about 6 weeks ago)....AAAAAARGH!!!

Yesterday I had:

my normal morning coffee with rice milk

one Glutino blueberry breakfast bar and a bowl of rasberries (breakfast)

a roasted turkey and hummus wrap for lunch (I used a Vietnamese rice wrap, SO good and the hubby's idea!)

an apple for a snack

basmati rice with peas, curried lentils, and spinich for dinner

some blueberries and pineapple for dessert

Today:

Ummmm...it's 10:40 a.m. and I have only had the coffee so far, but the meal plan is:

two Trader Joes gluten-free pancakes with blueberries for breakfast

going to the beach today, and bringing an apple, carrots, roasted turkey, and some hummus for lunch

probably a bowl of berries at some point (they are so ggod this time of year!)

Husband's cooking dinner tonight and he's making pepper steak, steamed veggies, and a salad

for dessert, he picked up a teeny tiny Crave Bakery gluten-free chocolate cake and some dairy free ice cream

Excercise? I actually got on the treadmill and walked for about 30 minutes this morning and did about 20 minutes of yoga. This is the first time in years I have actually felt energized by excercising instead of needing a nap...I must be doing something right!!!

Happy Friday all!!!

It did not take me long to gain my 30-40lbs And my last post was and is pretty much how I eat but with wheat breads and pastas. If I knew that I was going to have a pasta meal like spegettii I just may a bowl of ceral skip lunch and eat dinner not a whole lot of food because I am not a junk food eater like my husband but because of what I ate not how much I ate was causing me to gain man go figure. Now I am eating better choice foods and I am loosing the weight, I am not craving the foods and this morning when I woke up I did feel drunk or not have to close my eyes and go to sleep again for 30 minutes I felt refreshed and great. I love that feeling.

Well this is a "Great Thread"

And I too need or want to loose 20lbs before my son's wedding in October, but I have some difficulty problems with the exercise things (I can't use my arms due to severe nerve damamge) and I have a spine stimulator for the pain so my exercise program is quite limited :(

I don't have an appitite either due to wearing morphine patches for the pain too :(

So I can't figure why I gained wht I have unless it is due to my hormones being still out of wack from ovaries being removed 3 years ago (when I went for the surgery I wieghed 105- now I weigh 128 )

I tried a month of hormones and gained 20 lbs :(

My age is 44 and maybe this has a factor too !

I eat wht I can to stay healthy but with the gluten being everywhere and not a big milk fan (lactose intol.) I have not very many choices for meal plans.

I don't like fruit or many veggies :(

I use to be a junk food junkie and was always a toothpick til now ;)

So any of u have some suggestions?

I am also allergice to chocolate, milk,LAYTEX,avocodo's,bananas, things that come in platsic like p.butter, kraft single, and can do some string cheeses as long as they r lite and do eat chicken alot or turkey burger I like fish, pizza, use to like spagetthi, :P

On a daily basis I eat chicken salad made with canned chicken with water drained, onions, onion salt, pepper, miarcle whip, and I use gluten free tostetoe's for dippers sometimes just rice on a plate and chciken salad is my dinner or lunch :)

I really am not a breakfast fan and never have been.

So if u have any suggestions on how to get this off before October throw them my way

I have been told the more u eat sevral times a day the better u r with a stable matab. but the more I eat the fatter I get lol

I have to make myself eat due to no appitite, but am I eating too much starch?

Seems I need all of ur help on this one

I have tired slim fast products but gained didn't loose a lb.

So help me plz :) sorry this was soooooo long lol > OH btw I'am also only 4ft 11 1/2 inches tall

Thanks !

Well yesterday I ate almost an entire bag of Terra potpuorri potato chips. Today I got on the scale and I was two pounds lighter. (I do think something was wrong with the scale LOL).

Today:

B - 1/2 canteloupe, two eggs with 1/2 heirloom tomato sauteed in coconut oil

L - Sunshine organic veggie burger patty

S - young coconut (the whole entire thing - yum)

S2 - TJs veggie flax chips (talk about junk food in disguise lol) with some hummus

D - I just bought some plantains, so I'm hoping to make a Cuban black bean dish - we'll see :)

Hope you all had a good weekend :)

GeoffCJ Enthusiast

:( :( :(

Ok, I just did my first weigh in for this. 284.6

Ouch.

Today - B- Banana

10 am - Couple pieces of lunch meat with string cheese

Lunch - 4 soft corn tortillas, ground beef, tomatoes, a little bit of cheese. Diet Pepsi

4:30 - 10-12 cherry tomatoes

Dinner - Sandwhich with cheese and lunch meat.

Geoff don't get too discouraged it took me a while to lose, last year it took me a while to lose a little and then all the sudden it just melted off a total of 14lbs and then I got the call that everything was negative, I was tested while gluten-free and I know now that was a mistake

This is what I have for Sunday, I actually ate more today.

B- 2 eggs, 2 turkey bacon, 2 gluten-free toast, Lactaid milk, coffee

L - gluten-free sandwich with ham and gluten-free cheese, Diet coke

D - at work which sucked because I was running late, not enough time to fix my dinner

Lean Cusine Rice and Beans with sour cream sauce, salad with baby carrots, brocoli and 2 baby pickells. I found the LC rice and beans on a list of safe foods but I don't think that it is too safe because my stomach has been hurting me and D, I'm ok nero wise, but I have lost another pound which makes me 152lbs. On the ingrediants for the rice and beans I saw hydrosomething corn gluten I don't know if this is safe or not.

Okay yesterday (Sunday) I had:

breakfast: the regular coffee with rice milk, Erwhon(sp) corn and amaranth puffs w/rice milk and a couple of dried black figs

lunch: grilled chicken salad w/fresh corn and black beans tossed with olive oil and balsamic vinegar

snack: a bowl of blueberries

dinner: baby bokchoy stir fried in sesame/soybean oil and gluten-free tamari sauce, steamed rice, shrimp cooked in Malaysian red curry sauce, and something like 5 glasses of water because the curry was SO spicy (but boy oh boy was it good)

dessert: one cocoa merengue cookie and a glass of Pu-errh tea

Plus the family and I went for a crazy long walk together yesterday on the levee (like over an hour).

Today I will have:

breakfast: 2 Trader Joes gluten-free/dairy free pancakes with blueberries and of course I can;t forget my coffee with rice milk!

lunch: 2 warmed corn tortillas wrapped with roasted turkey and hummus (this really good one from Trader Joes that has cilantro and jalapenos in it...tastes better than it sounds!)

snack: an apple and some medjool dates

dinner: probably some left over rice with the curry sauce and more bokchoy cause I am working late tonight.

Excercise: I did a 45 minute pilates/yoga workout this morning.

Hello all, I think that I have been doing ok with my diet so far, but today I don't know, feeling a little nasues

Monday slept until 3 pm because I worked Sunday night

D- Spegetti with rice noodles

diet coke

water before bed

Tuesday

B- 2 gluten-free vann waffles

Lactaid Milk

L- brown rice tortilla with sunshine burger with gluten-free cheese

diet coke

water

snack 3 musketeers and partial diet DP

D- at work Amy's gluten-free mac and cheese with chicken

and a few bits of Tuna salad out of the machine with rice crakers from home, I only had 3 bites and was afraid of some ingredients that i did not know so i trashed it, but i know 3 bites is enough to get sick, but ever since I have eaten those Smart Ones Santa fe style rice and beans with sour cream sauce, I have been having a lot of gas and trapped gas in my back between my shoulder blades and my tummy making noises. who ever put this on the list of foods that was safe they are wrong. I printed up some list that I think is from the North Texas GIG and is a Celiac diet table of things that you can eat it give day by day on things that you can eat for B, L, D, and snack ideas, this list also offers Stouffors glazed chicken that is safe to eat, I don't know if the Smart ones is affecting me I don't think that I want to try the chicken one.

Happy eating everyone

Your post demonstrates the profound frustration and isolation that so many in the Celiac community feel, and I want to thank you for channeling that experience into advocacy. The medical gaslighting you endured for decades is an unacceptable and, sadly, a common story, and the fact that you now have to "school" your own GI specialist speaks volumes about the critical lack of consistent and updated education. Your idea to make Celiac Disease a reportable condition to public health authorities is a compelling and strategic one. This single action would force the system to formally acknowledge the prevalence and seriousness of the disease, creating a concrete dataset that could drive better research funding, shape medical school curricula, and validate the patient experience in a way that individual stories alone often cannot. It is an uphill battle, but contacting representatives, as you have done with Adam Gray, is exactly how change begins. By framing it as a public health necessity—a matter of patient safety and protection from misdiagnosis and neglect—you are building a powerful case. Your voice and your perseverance, forged through thirty years of struggle, are exactly what this community needs to ensure that no one else has to fight so hard just to be believed and properly cared for.

Navigating medication safety with Celiac disease can be incredibly stressful, especially when dealing with asthma and severe allergies on top of it. While I don't have personal experience with the HealthA2Z brand of cetirizine, your caution is absolutely warranted. The inactive ingredients in pills, known as excipients, are often where gluten can be hidden, and since the FDA does not require gluten-free labeling for prescription or over-the-counter drugs, the manufacturer's word is essential. The fact that you cannot get a clear answer from Allegiant Health is a significant red flag; a company that is confident its product is gluten-free will typically have a customer service protocol to answer that exact question. In situations like this, the safest course of action is to consider this product "guilty until proven innocent" and avoid it. A better alternative would be to ask your pharmacist or doctor to help you identify a major national brand of cetirizine (like Zyrtec) whose manufacturer has a verified, publicly stated gluten-free policy for that specific medication. It's not worth the risk to your health when reliable, verifiable options are almost certainly available to you. You can search this site for USA prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the medication and maker in the results, then scroll down to "Ingredients and Appearance" and click it, and then look at "Inactive Ingredients," as any gluten ingredients would likely appear there, rather than in the Active Ingredients area. https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/

What you're describing is indeed familiar to many in the Celiac community, especially in the early stages of healing. When the intestinal villi are damaged from Celiac disease, they struggle to properly digest and absorb fats, a condition known as bile acid malabsorption. This can cause exactly the kind of cramping and spasms you're seeing, as undigested fats can irritate the sensitive gut lining. It is highly plausible that her reactions to dairy and eggs are linked to their higher fat content rather than the proteins, especially since she tolerates lean chicken breast. The great news is that for many, this does improve with time. As her gut continues to heal on a strict gluten-free diet, her ability to produce the necessary enzymes and bile to break down fats should gradually return, allowing her to slowly tolerate a wider variety of foods. It's a slow process of healing, but your careful approach of focusing on low-fat, nutrient-dense foods like seeds and avocado is providing her system the best possible environment to recover. Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. This article may be helpful: Thank you for sharing your story—it's a valuable insight for other parents navigating similar challenges.

I had a very rough month after diagnosis. No exaggeration, lost so much inflammatory weight, I looked like a bag of bones, underneath i had been literally starving to death. I did start feeling noticeably better after a month of very strict control of my kitchen and home. What are you eating for breakfast and lunch? I ignored my doc and ate oats, yes they were gluten free, but some brands are at the higher end of gluten free. Lots of celics can eat Bob's Red Mill gluten-free oats, but not me. I can now eat them, but they have to be grown and processed according to the "purity protocol" methods. I mail order them, Montana Gluten-Free brand. A food and symptoms and activities log can be helpful in tracking down issues. You might be totally aware, but I have to mention about the risk of airborne gluten. As the doc that diagnosed me warned . . Remember eyes, ears, nose, and mouth all lead to your stomach and intestines.  Are you getting any cross contamination? Airborne gluten? Any pets eating gluten (they eat it, lick themselves, you pet them...)? Any house remodeling? We live in an older home, always fixing something. I've gotten glutened from the dust from cutting into plaster walls, possibly also plywood (glues). The suggestions by many here on vitamin supplements also really helped me. I had some lingering allergies and asthma, which are now 99% gone. I was taking Albuterol inhaler every hour just to breathe, but thiamine in form of benfotiamine kicked that down to 1-2 times a day within a few days of starting it. Also, since cutting out inflammatory seed oils (canola, sunflower, grapeseed, etc) and cooking with real olive oil, avocado oil, ghee, and coconut oil, I have noticed even greater improvement overall and haven't used the inhaler in months! It takes time to weed out everything in your life that contains gluten, and it takes awhile to heal and rebuild your health. At first it's mentally exhausting, overwhelming, even obsessive, but it gets better and second nature.
