Bloating From Everything

Once something aggravates my bloating into high gear, no matter what I eat, I bloat. By the end of the day I am really bloated. It seems like each thing bloats me a little more. I have read other say it is an IBS symptom. I was wondering if it is also a Celiac symptom. If bloating is from eating gluten, then not eating gluten should stop the bloating, no? Or does it take awhile to calm down. Surely you don't have to completely heal to get rid of the massive bloating? I hope not.

If you take away the offending food your bloating will go away. It'll take more then a day however I'd give it two and up to a week at the most depending on how severe your reaction is. It could be gluten, dairy, nuts, anything.

I remember when I first joined this board their was a girl who could not get rid of bloating no matter what she ate.

She finally had a scope done and she had stomach ulcers and I believe ulcers going right into her small intestines.

So it can be something other then food. Your best bet is to jot down all the food you eat and then follow it with how you feel after you eat. I've kept a food diary for years now.

Good luck,

Gail

Thank you Gail.

I actually feel like I have an ulcer although I have never had one so I really don't know what one feels like. LOL

I keep feeling like I need to eat to soothe my stomach but when I do I bloat. I just had some carrot juice and I bloated. I started trying to not eat gluten on Friday. And I was actually doing really good until I had a cup of coffee yesterday late in the day. Hmmmm That could be a clue.

I did start a food diary if I could just remember to write it down as soon as I eat it.

Thanks!

I'd notice two things:

1) dairy. this bloats me in an instant

2) sugar. this feeds bacteria, which can cause bloating.

quitting sugar is what finally stopped my bloating, after 37 yeas.

Well that gave me something to think about. I did give up sugar once, and slowly it came back into my diet. I measure 1/2 tsp of sugar in my coffee so I don't go overboard.

So I eat a lot less sugar than I used to.

I may give it a try tomorrow and see what happens. That will be easier than doing a fast.

I normally have tea with honey in the morning so I guess that has to go to. Wahhhhhhh....

I also noticed that my vitamin d3 has mannitol and xylitol. That's something I thought about as well. And I had some cream in my coffee so there's the dairy.

I'll let ya know tomorrow how it works.

Thanks!

I think it took the whole first day, and part of the second day to really show up, or maybe as long as a week.

I keep thinking I can add back the sugar (it's been a month), and so far, no can do. I have been able to add like one fig per day, and I've eaten a banana or two, but for the most part, zero zero zero. They say three months to six months...I don't miss "sugar", but I do miss fruit, and I just bought the bees-knees blender and can't do yummy fruit smoothies.

STEVIA, though, can help you. It is an herb not a sweetner, but it sweetens tea. Just don't use too much or it gets weird tasting. Some folks react to it, not gluten but something else, but most folks handle it fine. It seems expensive, but it is only used by the drop, quite literally. So try it out if you decide sugar-free is helping.

Good luck.

I had to start a carrot juice fast. Hopefully I won't have to stay on it the whole 3 days. :(

My stomach is really messed up. I have to give it time to heal. Hopefully this will work again.

I just wanted to post a followup.

I finally got rid of the bloating pain. I did a one day fast but then got a severe migraine, so had to stop the fast. And then I noticed the gnawing pain in the pit of my stomach was more pronounced. I could not get it to go away.

I finally realized that all my symptoms started when I bent over, and I had reflux, so I figured out that my esophagus must be irritated and that was what was causing my continuing pain.

I didn't have any coffee this morning and so my symptoms are a lot better today.

I then did a google search and they say their is a correlation between celiac and reflux esophagitis.

Does anyone else have this?

I've had the reflux for quite some time, on and off, but never had the esophagitis part. I quit drinking coffee once, but it was the only thing that helped my migraines so I started drinking it again.

Anyway, that's my self-diagnosis for now. LOL If anything changes I'll let ya know.

Was the card itself lost or just the record or both?
    • Francis M
We were flabergasted that the owner would not acknowledge a $50 e-gift card I purchased for my celiac wife. My wife tried to open it in the store and was informed there had been a system change and they could not find the record. No worries, she was told, just talk to management. Six months later, and numerous absurd back and forths, and the owner literally informs me there have been "bad actors", so she can't make good on this lost gift card. In other words, she accused me of lying and committing fraud... over $50! Please be careful with your orders and purchases here.

Yes, some people do get withdrawal from gluten but gluten withdrawal doesn't usually cause gut pain. Maybe more like general body aches and discomfort. We have articles on gluten withdrawal on this forum. You might do a search for them. Applesauce is very acidic and some brands have added vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which makes them more acidic. This can damage the stomach lining if you eat it too often. Especially if your stomach lining is already compromised. Ibuprofen inhibits the body's ability to rebuild the stomach's protective mucosal lining. That's why it can cause peptic ulcers. As strange as it may sound, low level irritation/inflammation stimulates the body to rebuild the stomach lining. There are two steps in this rebuilding process known as COX 1 and COX 2. Ibuprofen represses both COX 1 and COX 2. Celecoxcib, a prescription anti inflammatory, inhibits only COX 2, making it less likely to cause damage to the gut lining.

Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen  I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce.   Something is making my pain so much worse  I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs.  Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever would do. I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding
