Guess what, cult members? I got a raise today! Not a huge one (unexpected, though), but enough to give me a reason to celebrate. I wonder what i should buy to commemorate the occasion.......

WOOHOO!!!!!! Now THAT's exciting!!!!!! Too bad they don't have a color called "in the money" :P

I officially placed my order! :D I'm very excited! :P

YAY!!!!! Can't wait to hear how you like it all!!

At the bottom of each peson's quote there is a little button that says quote. Click each one you want to respond to, and then click add reply at the bottom of the page. When the reply box comes up, it will be populated with all the posts you wanted to respond to. Just snip out the part you don't want and leave the rest.

Yay on the raise Colleen. It's even sweeter when unexpected!!! :D

Good for you Kassandra! Can't wait to hear about it. :)

So many new order in the past couple of days, I can't wait to hear about everything! :D

I don't have much new to add except I must have super oily eye lids, lol! I found a matte foundation sample I forgot I had and tried that under the eyeshadow today. It worked ok on one side and not so good on the other. My application of it must have been weaker on my left eye, lol!

Oh, and I wore Cherry Fizz as an eye shadow, a blush and a lip gloss today. I was Fizz-ed out!

Since this EM thing has started I only went without eye shadow one day and WOW did that seem awkward. It's funny how I must wear all my makeup all the time now!

Gone shopping with my mom tomorrow. Boscov's has 75% off so many things. I bought 2 $30.00 sweaters for $5.00/each on Sunday and a few long sleeve T's for $3.50. Going back for more good deals! I figure what I save on clothes I can spend on EM! Yay!

I just have to show you guys this so we can all appreciate the pure awesomeness of EM (gosh that sounded kind of cultish lol).

I ordered this lip gloss from Lumiere for $3. Yes, $3 is a pretty great price for anything, but um...I think EM's free samples are more generous than this:

http://i31.tinypic.com/mmwp49.webp

<_<

I bought three of them, so I have $9 worth of lipstick that will probably last me a week  Bummer! Oh well...the colors are pretty, at least.

It's funny because if the brush isn't wet enough, the foundation goes on really heavy, and if it's too wet, the make-up just sort of dissolves and diminishes on your skin.

Maybe try pure aloe as a primer? I've been doing that (for two days lol) and it fills in my pores really nicely.

Where do you get the aloe? What do I look for?

mftnchn Explorer

Something happened to my order and they lost the information...sent me an email and said they refunded my money with their apologies.

So I reordered just a sample kit and a lip gloss (cherry fizz). Decided I need to confirm the foundation color I want, and the sample kits are the greatest. Also I keep reading the reviews of all the colors....thanks everyone.

Love your new avatar Donna, your make-up and hair look great! :D

Exactly what I was thinking!

Sherry, it's just plain aloe vera gel. You can get it at any health food store or CVS/Walgreens type place. I would suggest a health food store though...organic and less "artificial" colors. Also, as Mango learned...it's clear, NOT green! Don't buy green, lol...too much crap in it. Just get clear, plain aloe vera gel.

Same here! Once I didn't put on makeup on a Saturday. Even though I wasn't leaving the house it still felt wierd. A couple of days ago, I saw a picture of myself pre-EM. I thought, boy I sure look washed out and tired. My husband keeps telling me what a hot chick I am.

So what's the deal with the lip glosses? I ordered one, and it did not roll up. So I returned it and EM replaced it. The one they replaced it with doesn't roll up either! Am I missing something, or is there a trick to making this tube work? I was thinking of ordering another color, but I don't want to if the tubes don't work. Maybe I just have bad lipgloss karma.

I don't have trouble with my eyeshadow creasing. When I mix my foundation into my moisturizer, I always make sure I get some on my eyelids too. Then they get moisturized, and the foundation gives a good base to the shadow. You have to be careful not to get it in your eyes, though. I am so wierd, I even have dry skin on my eyelids!

dlp252 Apprentice

Today's experiment...mixing my concealor with a moisturizer for under my eye area. I'm noticing that that area tends to look pretty wrinkly by the end of the day, so I'm hoping mixing the concealor with the moisturizer will lessen that a bit.

I'm also wearing silver spoon, and am trying smokey pink again, with To Do List as a base. I'm determined to like Smokey Pink, lol. I used Smokey eyeliner today, but put it on with the Premium Lip Brush. I was using the lip brush for putting concealor on my small spots but have decided it works much better as a liner brush. :P

Colleen,

Was it Cherry Fizz??? My Cherry Fizz doesn't roll up either...I never had it replaced cuz I'm not sure I love the lip glosses anyway, so I just use a lip brush to get it out.

Aw, Mango, that sample is very cute, lol. I purposely bought a few that are that size so I could carry them in my pocket when I don't want to carry a purse, but I think I paid $3 for 3 of them, lol.

Exactly what I was thinking!

Thanks! :)

I got the aloe at a health food type store. I bought the Aubrey Organics brand, since it had the least amount of ingredients (just aloe and a couple vitamins to act as preservatives, I think). It was $8...but a pretty decent sized bottle.

It goes on the skin really nicely....creates sort of a velvety smooth finish. I love it! :D

Hey Birdy, so how are you liking everything!?

Some people (I hear) react to the silk dusts...maybe try one of the other non-silk finishing powders.

Hi everyone, I'm here to confess to being a closet EM fan.

Hi Birdy! I have seen you reading wondering if you were ever going to jump in  , glad you did :)

You've already got some good stuff, how do you like everything?

Some people (I hear) react to the silk dusts...maybe try one of the other non-silk finishing powders.

Did you read this on the EM board Donna? What are they saying, are there specific, um, symptoms I guess you would call it of reacting?

The more I use my EM flat top, the more my BE brushes feel like sandpaper on my face. I guess maybe I'll get the baby kabuki instead. Bummer!

You know, when I first got my BE I thought maybe I was reacting to the brushes, now I am thinking there might be something to that, they are kind of scratchy compared to other brushes.

ShadowSwallow Newbie

I love them.:D:lol: It's so nice to have a makeup I can wear everyday. I've been having a ton of fun with the eyeshadows.

Some people (I hear) react to the silk dusts...maybe try one of the other non-silk finishing powders.

I'll have to look into that... maybe my next purchase. I'm going to try just using the foundation for a while... mixing in the matte. Hopefully this will help. I'm also shaking up my beauty routine. Which is rather difficult... I keep reacting to things, and I have a history of wretched acne. <_<

Oh, I also have the flat-top brush and two eyeshadow brushes.

OMG...did I create a cult??? I've mostly been away from the forum for the last couple months, just popping into the cooking section occasionally. So last night I decided to see what else was going on and was excited to see a thread on Everyday Minerals. After reading through the first couple pages, I finally realized that the thread was over 80 pages long...WOW!!!

I first posted about EM shortly after finding it 1.5 years ago. At that time I was terrified that I would never find gluten-free/SF makeup (and especially lipstick) ever again! Then I found EM and not only was it a great (and affordable) product, but I was blown away by the free samples and how awesome the company was. I am soooo glad that others are liking it and supporting the company, and it feels good to have given something back to a forum that literally saved my life...WOOHOO!!!

Yeah, read something about the possibility of being allergic to silk, lol:

Hi, glad you came back! What colors do you wear? :D

dlp252 Apprentice

Some of you probably peruse the "natura" threads at EM more than I do (and someone probably already posted this, lol), but I found this buried in one thread...it's about how likely oils are to be comedogenic(sp?):

Open Original Shared Link

Can't get much more gluten-free than pure oil, lol.

ShadowSwallow Newbie

I was looking for a list like that earlier today. I'm going to be trying out the Oil Cleansing Method. Hopefully I won't react to castor oil.

Green12 Enthusiast

Thanks for that link Donna.

Are you looking to find natural things to use as a cleanser?

Kass posted some possibilities a ways back, honey and egg whites, apple cider vinegar....

I used to do a mask that might work. I had all these extra probiotics and enzyme caps leftover because I was always switching brands and came up with the idea of making a face mask with probiotic powder and enzyme powder.

I just took a couple of probiotic caps and an enzyme cap, opened them up and put the powder in a little glass, or bowl, added a few drops of water to get it to a thin paste consistency, then dabbed this all over a cotton ball and rubbed it on my face.

I kept it on for about 15 minutes then washed it off with warm water.

Yes, I do think they need a Thiamine supplement at least. Especially since they eat red meat only occasionally. Most fruits and vegetables are not good sources of Thiamine.  Legumes (beans) do contain thiamine.  Fruits and veggies do have some of the other B vitamins, but thiamine B 1 and  Cobalamine B12 are mostly found in meats.  Meat, especially organ meats like liver, are the best sources of Thiamine, B12, and the six other B vitamins and important minerals like iron.   Thiamine has antibacterial and antiviral properties.  Thiamine is important to our immune systems.  We need more thiamine when we're physically ill or injured, when we're under stress emotionally, and when we exercise, especially outside in hot weather.  We need thiamine and other B vitamins like Niacin B 3 to keep our gastrointestinal tract healthy.  We can't store thiamine for very long.  We can get low in thiamine within three days.  Symptoms can appear suddenly when a high carbohydrate diet is consumed.  (Rice and beans are high in carbohydrates.)  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so symptoms can wax and wane depending on what one eats.  The earliest symptoms like fatigue and anxiety are easily contributed to other things or life events and dismissed.   Correcting nutritional deficiencies needs to be done quickly, especially in children, so their growth isn't stunted.  Nutritional deficiencies can affect intelligence.  Vitamin D deficiency can cause short stature and poor bone formation.   Is your son taking anything for the anemia?  Is the anemia caused by B12 or iron deficiency?
    • lizzie42
Thank you! That's helpful. My kids eat very little processed food. Tons of fruit, vegetables, cheese, eggs and occasional red meat. We do a lot of rice and bean bowls, stir fry, etc.  Do you think with all the fruits and vegetables they need a vitamin supplement? I feel like their diet is pretty healthy and balanced with very limited processed food. The only processed food they eat regularly is a bowl of Cheerios here and there.  Could shaking legs be a symptom of just a one-time gluten exposure? I guess there's no way to know for sure if they're getting absolutely zero exposure because they do go to school a couple times a week. We do homeschool but my son does a shared school 2x a week and my daughter does a morning Pre-K 3 x a week.  At home our entire house is strictly gluten free and it is extremely rare for us to eat out. If we eat at someone else's house I usually just bring their food. When we have play dates we bring all the snacks, etc. I try to be really careful since they're still growing. They also, of course, catch kids viruses all the time so I  want to make sure I know whether they're just sick or they've had gluten. It can be pretty confusing when they're pretty young to even be explaining their symptoms!
    • Scott Adams
That is interesting, and it's the first time I heard about the umbilical cord beings used for that test. Thanks for sharing!
    • knitty kitty
@lizzie42, You're being a good mom, seeking answers for your son.  Cheers! Subclinical thiamine deficiency commonly occurs with anemia.  An outright Thiamine deficiency can be precipitated by the consumption of a high carbohydrate meal.   Symptoms of Thiamine deficiency include feeling shakey or wobbly in the legs, muscle weakness or cramps, as well as aggression and irritability, confusion, mood swings and behavior changes.  Thiamine is essential to the production of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine which keep us calm and rational.   @Jsingh, histamine intolerance is also a symptom of Thiamine deficiency.  Thiamine is needed to prevent mast cells from releasing histamine at the slightest provocation as is seen in histamine intolerance.  Thiamine and the other B vitamins and Vitamin C are needed to clear histamine from the body.  Without sufficient thiamine and other B vitamins to clear it, the histamine builds up.  High histamine levels can change behavior, too.  High histamine levels are found in the brains of patients with schizophrenia.  Thiamine deficiency can also cause extreme hunger or conversely anorexia.   High carbohydrate meals can precipitate thiamine deficiency because additional thiamine is required to process carbohydrates for the body to use as fuel.  The more carbohydrates one eats daily, the more one needs additional thiamine above the RDA.  Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses. Keep in mind that gluten-free processed foods like cookies and such are not required to be fortified and enriched with vitamins and minerals like their gluten containing counterparts are.  Limit processed gluten-free foods.  They are often full of empty calories and unhealthy saturated fats and additives, and are high in histamine or histamine release triggers.  It's time you bought your own vitamins to supplement what is not being absorbed due to malabsorption of Celiac disease.  Benfotiamine is a form of Thiamine that has been shown to improve intestinal health as well as brain function. Do talk to your doctors and dieticians about supplementing with the essential vitamins and minerals while your children are growing up gluten free.  Serve nutritionally dense foods.  Meats and liver are great sources of B vitamins and minerals. Hope this helps!  Keep us posted on your progress!

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
