I am looking for holiday ideas. So please post your favorites of what works. And let us know if they are gluten, soy or dairy free also ot how you can make them that way for us that have other intolerances.

Thanks a bunch

paula

What I am hoping to find is a good gluten free butter horn recipe. My mom used to make these all the time when I was little.

Note:

all of the recipes listed below are gluten free, but not dairy free and possibly not soy free either. But you may be able to make it that way.

This is my favorite cookie to make around Christmas time:

I throw Mi-Del gluten free Pecan Cookies into a food processor for use as the "graham cracker" crumbs, and for the nuts I use pecans. I also change up a bit, depending on my mood, the types of chips I use. Last time I did an equal mix of dark, milk, and white chocolate chips with a bit of butterscotch. It was sooooooooo yummy!

I also love macaroons; here's my recipe: Servings: 25-30 cookies

Active Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cooking Time: 28-30 minutes

(3) egg whites

1 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar

(1) 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk

(1) 14 oz. bag sweetened flaked coconut

1 1/2 tsp. almond extract

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1/2 tsp. salt

Pre-heat oven to 350

Sweet fudge, I'd love to make those sugar cookies but can't buy or use the instant pudding mix (not available here, has milk in it). Can you suggest a substitute?

hm, i have no idea. i just know that all the best gluten-free recipes i've found recommend using it. i imagine it would be okay without. a good question to put to the group.

I'd like to clarify: Is the pain you describe in the area just below your chest constant, or does it only appear when you start moving?

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
